If you could add ONE thing to Elemental before it ships...

...what would it be?

Release is coming up, and it seems that things are just in the polish stage at this point. But...what if you could have one more feature added before release? What would it be? Personally, I would like to concentrate on things that can't be modded in or modded easily.

If we had more time, the main thing I would add would be:

Provide more interesting choices. It has been said that a good game is ultimately a series of interesting choices made by the player. Right now, Elemental has some...but not enough. Entire turns can go by without any interesting decisions being forced on the player. Things aren't dynamic enough, and there isn't enough to  do. I'm all for keeping things simple, as long as simple is still interesting. Right now I worry that the gameplay in Elemental may be too simple. We don't need dozens of crazy stats that ultimately don't mean anything. However, more random events, dynamic quests, dynamic NPCs and groups, more things to deal with  such as city morale, etc...this wouldn't be that hard to add in as the basic mechanics of these sorts of things could probably be handled by a modified quest system. Games like Civ, Europa Uni, King Arthur, etc, etc...they all have much more of this sort of thing and it lets the player do more, make more choices, and for me, it is more fun. My hope is that we will be able to mod this sort of thing in, and I can see ways to do it based on my limited knowledge of what will be needed to mod Elemental. So if we had more time, I would like to see this, but I think the community might be able to handle it...

However, some things might be hard to mod in. Based on that, my one last wish, based on Beta 4:

Make buildings and locations more interesting and interactive. Right now, buildings are just stat boosters, really. When I build an awesome world wonder...it is just a stat boost. This makes cities dull and generic. I want buildings to matter more and be interactive. So if I send a hero to a neutral ancient temple, have it provide a quest, or let him get a bonus from being there. If the hero is in a city, let him go to a building and maybe it will generate a quest or give him a bonus while he is there. Have many more neutral heroes wandering the map, and have them visit buildings too. So if I build the library world wonder, it will draw in famous scholars and mages. If I build the great market, it will draw in merchant NPCs and caravans. If I build a Tavern, it will attract adventurers looking for quests. If I build a palace and have my Sovereign stay in it, I will get a bonus to prestige or diplomacy or something like that. I think this would be a huge step towards making Elemental more in line with the vision of a living fantasy world, and less of the static situation we have now. I don't know how something like this could be modded without insane amounts of scripting (maybe), so I would love to see something like it added now.

So...what one thing would you like added before release?

Hotseat.

I'm not in the beta is there a war weariness/penalty for prolonged conflicts? if not then that. AoW2:SD really needed that.

Changing how squads work, so that squad boosts and veterancy weren't such massive incremental increases in power.

Remove 1 per world buildings.  They are too CIV like.  More faction specific buildings to amplify the impact of that decision.

Pie!

Oh you mean one thing about game play...  hmmm Dungeon crawls!

Agreed with OP (much of this COULD be accomplished through modding, not that it should have to be) and on Hotseat mode. We need more interesting choices and diversity. I especially like the idea that the Tavern/Inn can attract Adventurers, maybe they should also continually spawn from these buildings too (hero population replenished). I'd also like to see more interesting characters, NPCs, and more AI settings for factions and the individual heroes.

Multi-Level maps so we can put some archers in walls! (And someone could make an XCom mod too!)

Dungeon Crawls :seconded:

The idea i had to change where/how the event notification works.

If not that then the ability to control the placement of your troops for tactical battles so your archers will stop being placed in front of the melee troops automatically, or your caster sovereigns don't have to be at the front line automatically every battle

More diversity.  Hoping this is coming with the polishing we are not seeing but in the Betas I didn't feel there were enough meaningful differences with races, factions, armor, weapons, spellbooks, etc.  The faction differences is one of the main things in MOM and MOO that keeps me coming back.

I'd like visible walls in tactical combat as well.  If nothing more than something the besieging army has to break through and the defending archers can shoot over.  If memory serves me right,  MoM had some type of wall progression you could build that a besieging army had to break though.  Not asking for anything as elaborate as AoW:SM type walls, just something a little more visceral and destructible.  After all, isn't that the crux/turning point of lots of battles, breaking through the city's walls?

The ability to support multiple maps (which could be customized) for example:

An underworld map with various links to the surface world.

Alternate planes with gateways/portals linking them to the surface/dungeons.

LAN play without a WAN connection required. LOL Muhahahahaha

It would certainly quiet the odd thread around here. ;)

I just couldn't resist. :ninja: *_* :typo:

I don't know about an XCom mod but I do know that a height/terrain type advantage could add a lot of fun tactical situations.

A "Make Your Own Race" with customizable body parts, OR, a "Flying Citadel". Either one of those would be totally Awesome!!!

LAN Support.

Second Raven X's idea.

If that's not possible, more effects from having shards and/or more magical effects possible in general. Don't know how many spells will be in the 0 day, but number of spells isn't the point. It's important to feel  like you have some cool options, like combinations.  Beta 4 felt a little pedantic with spell casting except for summoning; without upkeep it was less strategic which spell you cast when.

I have to side with detailed dungeon crawls.. For the RPG side of it, such a system would add great depth and 'fun' factor. Some of the most interesting missions in Star Craft, are those with no building, small force fighting across tactical maps, with rooms and intractable objects.

Hotseat, definitly. 4x turn based strategy games = Hotseat in my world.

also an option to play the multiplayer exactly as the sp, the mp is streamlined for mp and I just want the option to choose wether to have that or not. to me it sounds kinda dull to have a thinned out game when I play online.

I like most suggestions I see here, I want them all! :0
