[Suggestion][Dynasty] More marriage options

More marriage options

https://forums.elementalgame.com/386777

Following on from TCores' post, I feel there are not quite enough options for finding a spouse, or marrying off children.

First off, shouldn't children be able to marry Champions? Why can't I cement alliances between my Champions and my Kingdom with the hand of my son/daughter?

Secondly, there is currently only 1 means to marry your sovereign - recruiting a champion of the opposite sex. Without getting into any of the issues around Elemental being a heterosexual idyl, why can't sovereign's marry the children of other sovereigns? Why can't sovereign's marry the heads of minor factions? Why can't sovereign's marry other sovereigns?

I guess the above are listed in roder of perceived difficulty/complication for beta4 to handle, but even a Sovereign-sovereign marriage could perhaps to be possible, as a very high level diplomatic option...

Agreed, give us more options here, please. I especially like the idea of marrying the head of another faction as a way to combine the nations. The problem is that NPCs marry almost immediately.

Married other soveirgns is likely out for diplomatic balance reasons.  If two factions basically became one with a clever marriage,  that sounds like a pretty easy match (double champions, cities armies etc).

Marrying another soveigns children could be ok, particularly if you have the required diplomacy technology for permanant alliances.

Dowry could be a good tool to balance some of the more interesting marriage options.  Rival or minor factions, which may give a major boon to your faction either through addition of a city or resource or through a solid alliance, could require a suitable marriage gift of gildar to agree to the proposal.

if you want to fix that change your Sovs Gender in the xml he or she will still look like what he/she was first made to look like. but on that note if you have a female looking Sov all your children will be female looking even if they are sons also on that note useing a differnt Model for your Sov also carrys over to your children so if your a SuperDemon or Elemental Lord they will be to.

i expect marriage to be expanded in an Xpack as well as Diplomacy but i would like it to have more depth because in most fantasy worlds that are not Dark you hear that the King or Queen marries out of love rather then just the need unless impending doom...

i think stardock won't allow same sex marriage because of it being Political and also they might not want the game to be rated higher then it should be.

side note, through diplomacy you can trade for a hero from another sovereign and marry that way as well.

I don't expect to see much additional complexity in the RTM version, but I'd at least like sovereigns to be able to remarry if/when they outlive their spouses. Being a permanent widow/widower before you have a decent batch of kids is a bummer.

Agreed.. I should be able to re-marry.

In fact, as a sovereign, I should be able to divorce if and marry someone else if she's a better match.  I'm the damn sovereign, I should be able to dump my queens anytime I want.  They should penalize us by making the wife no longer one of our champions if we divorce her.

Isn't that how the anglican church came about anyway!? ;)

k1 On the idea of more dynasty options. I love the idea and it really follows the medieval theme.

I also like the idea of being able to mary other sovereigns or have your sovereign marry their children, but this should not lead to a combined kingdom. Rather it would be a diplomatic option like an alliance (Which is realistic given historical use of marriages).

I personally think we should take this a step further and allow your sovereign and your champions to grow old and die eventually. As it currently is, your kids end up being 20 while you're still 26 which makes little sense. Growing old and dying is a natural part of reality and it can be part of the gameplay as well. If your sovereign dies and has no children, then you can one of his champions to succeed him or perhaps a bastard child is spawned to take his place. If he has children, then he is succeeded normally.

In a previous post one of the dev team suggested suicide as the way to accomplish this, i.e. send the spouse of to battle the nearest fire ogre with no weapons or armour equiped.

Would be nice to have a better option though as this seems a bit harsh on the poor spouse :'( .

I don't believe that you can re-marry after their death... kinda a poor implementation and suggestion on the devs there, lol.

Re-marriage (and harems...) has been asked since day 1 of whenever dinasty was included in the Beta. Unlike the game mechanic about the Sovereign death ending the game, this one hasn't been changed a bit. I suppose that eventually Stardock may change it but once they start working on developing further the dinasty system (that currently is "capped" from its original purpose, if my memory serves right).

Do you mean that old talk about "vassals" of some sort? I'd sure like to see a kid or a kid's spouse bring a whole city into some sort of alliance/fealty relationship if I did a good job of being a dynasty founder.
