[Mod Idea] Master of Magic

So I'm sure this has been proposed somewhere in the mod thread but is anyone planning to make a Master of Magic mod?  You know, like the original but to improve upon with the power of Elemental's engine?

I would appreciate a mod branch that's a clone of Master of Magic, for other mods to base off of, yes.

I would pay for a good version of such a mod.

We all would.

Half the people who found this game have been following Stardock for it since the rumors that they would try to license Master of Magic for a sequel ;)

I think it was ChongLi who was planning (or at least very interested) in the making of a Master of Magic clone (back in the day?). Surely he isn't the only one.

Yeah, I guess the question is whether the mechanics of the game could accomodate a Master of Magic clone.  So far, it looks like Elemental mod potential is very versalite, but I'm not entirely sure.

Agreed.

After looking at the new 3B beta, there are some very cool graphics in this game. I'm hopeful the gameplay will continue to improve in 'degree of fun' like MoM was able to deliver...EWOM has the potential, going to depend a lot on how they refine the Magic casting, the tactical combat, and how Heroes are leveraged. Managing your units and their moves is not really fun yet; for example, you don't know if your units can cross a mountain or what route they will take.

I got a Red Dragon in my party and that was a lot of fun, but it's still got a lot of tuning to make it better than MoM.

From what I've seen, they're very interested in adding support for mods later.  If such a mod was complete except a few features that required additional modding hooks, we'd be able to request them.

I take it this thread will be the mod coordination thread for now, to gather people who are interested in writing/testing/contributing to it?  There's a lot of small content that can be done by anyone in notepad - i.e. designing magic items to be found, unit stats, etc.

Anyone care to take a stab at an initial spec?  I.e. list out scripts, art assets, and data that will need done by hand?

I would love a MoM mod. The biggest hurdle I see as the game stands now is the implementation of Myrror. I have no idea if E:WoM have the ability to do that. Apart from that it looks like all the necessary construction blocks are there.

There was discussion about that in another thread - map changing hooks are in game, which should support this, dungeons with maps, etc.
