The Hiergamenon Preview

The Hiergamenon Preview

The Limited Edition of Elemental comes with a lot of cool stuff including a big canvas map, a poster, a fairly good sized dragon pewter piece. But it also comes with something particularly special: The Hiergamenon. This is a kind of encyclopedia to the world but told from the point of view of a collection of historical figures from Elemental’s past.

To get an idea of what it is like, here are some pictures of the pages. The paperback book comes with the Limited Edition and is around 160 pages.

If you’re already in the beta, you can upgrade to this from the link above.  Because of how expensive the Limited Edition is to produce, we will only guarantee enough units to provide to users who pre-order it.

(4 random pages from The Hiergamenon)

Quoting kyogre12, reply 10I laugh at everyone who isn't getting the Limited Edition.

why? The artwork aint that great, and the lore is easily replaced by the 1000 mod creators who will create their own lore for their own mod

Heh, jealous much? Or just poor?  :P

I work 10 hours a week and I found the extra $30 ($20 + shipping) for the Limited Edition. Even if you don't like the stuff much, it's a great way to support Stardock, probably my favorite company in existence.

The Limited Edition gets a MUCH larger manual than the standard game.

are you sure about that ?

quoting post
Extended print manual with additional information on the world of Elemental (i.e. 200+ pages)

End of Beric01's quote

Yes but that was back when the manual and the Hiergamenon were going to be integrated together.  They both have the same manual (30+ page manual and 160+ page Hiergamenon).

Also, please overlook the typos and such, it hasn't gone through editing yet, I just wanted to share with you what we're doing.

If you do need an editor or proofreader I am available. I did four years of technical writing back in the 90's and even if my skills are rusty I work for cheap these days as a returning college student.

That would be freaking sweet :) . I'm glad I upgraded. SD's definitely earned the money on this one.

I wasn't going to upgrade, but this has convinced me.. I'll do it as soon as my wife goes to bed ;)

Heh, I only found one spelling error unlike the rest of you (but then again I'm not a native english speaker.) It's in the last image on the second page.

And what's wrong with starting sentences with "and"?   I've heard it should be avoided but I've never gotten an explanation as to why.

And the creature names should definetly be capitalized. It doesn't matter at all how we spell things IRL.

I absolutely want the Limited Edition but I don't want to pay 20$ in shipping....and here in Sweden we might get a different Limited Edition....20$ just for shipping....but it might be worth it for Elemental....

Almost forgot, I like what I read.

For cheap? I'll proof read it for a spot in the credits. I already volunteer my time to proof read for Project Gutenberg, this would be a pleasure.

Ogre: "Smarts" as a word refers to pain, using it to refer to intelligence is slang.

I don't think they should be capitalizing the names of these creatures in the description either. We don't go around capitalizing "dog" or "human" everywhere.

End of Sanati's quote

Usage and style are situational, not absolute. They're especially flexible in fiction.

Capitalization of proper names of species is a common (but not universal) convention in the genre. And while I would also change 'smarts', to my eye the issue isn't that it's non-standard, but that it's anachronistic. It sounds modern, and so it's probably the wrong word in something that's presented as an in-world document.

FROGBOY!!!

I'm tempted.  Show us more of the cool stuff that comes with the $20.00 upgrade please.

Limited Edition Extras:

  • 18"x26" Elemental Poster
  • 18"x26" Cloth map of the Elemental world
  • Extended print manual
  • Elemental music CD
  • Pewter Elemental dragon

Screen shot of the pewter dragon (or proposals for it)... dimensions?

How about 1 sample song from the music CD?

Drakes: "one species of Drakes prefer forests." Should be "prefers,"...
End of Sanati's quote
My english skills have always sucked, so please to explain my error here -- I see this question as 'who is doing the preferring' -- drakes ('drakes prefer'), or species ('species prefers')?  As I see it it's drakes doing the preferring isn't it then 'drakes prefer' and not 'drakes prefers'?

What am I missing?

I would love love LOVE it if Elemental had the same kind of Lorebook that Warhammer online has - everytime you get into contact with something, it appears with a small story attached in the lorebook. Simply such a great moodsetter.

do you hink that the shipping costs of A$25 are INSIGNIFICANT??

it is large enough that the australian tax office AND the import office will probably try to put their own extras into the cost @ 10%gst +trade duties(????how much we do not find out until receipt, but might be as high as 40%). BLODDY rudderless governments

I wasn't planning on getting the collector's edition, and I still don't.

Collector's editions are, in fact, merchandise. And I despise merchandise. The fact I need those precious $$ for tuition doesn't help.

The pictures for Troll and Ogre may have been switched ... just as long as Ogres look bigger and tougher in game, the picture comparison might not have translated well.

And as far as different species that are very close in Phenotype, I don't mind a difference/ diversity. For me its as  cool as Ogre vs Bone Ogre, or Black Widow vs Rock Spider, or Forest Drake vs Swamp Drake vs Mountain Drake vs Shard Drake.

anyways, its a difference in preference. Differences in strength, speed, rarity, environment, and (habits?) is a bit of a plus for me ... and there is already a variety of physical forms in place, so a few "closely resembling" species is perfectly fine. Also, anything slightly related to a Dragon will have a similar appearance ... and thus far Drakes, Slags, and Dragons are all cool in their own right (and the smaller ver. of Drakes sound rather cool as well).

Yeah, let's talk about it!

For upgrading my pre-order, it says there are around 20$ in shipping (Switzerland). But it isn't written like it's a sure thing ("estimated").

So, as I pre-oredered formerly for download and physical edition, and thus should have already accepted around 20$ in shipping taxes:

- are these 20$ in addition, making it effectively 40$ to upgrade?

- or are they a generic number (website doesn't take into account the standard pre-order shipping taxes) and my shipping taxes should be eventually 20$ everything included once everything got calculated?

That sure makes a difference (of 20$). I think it's the latter but I'd like to get confirmation.
