The Hiergamenon Preview

The Limited Edition of Elemental comes with a lot of cool stuff including a big canvas map, a poster, a fairly good sized dragon pewter piece. But it also comes with something particularly special: The Hiergamenon. This is a kind of encyclopedia to the world but told from the point of view of a collection of historical figures from Elemental’s past.

To get an idea of what it is like, here are some pictures of the pages. The paperback book comes with the Limited Edition and is around 160 pages.

If you’re already in the beta, you can upgrade to this from the link above.  Because of how expensive the Limited Edition is to produce, we will only guarantee enough units to provide to users who pre-order it.

(4 random pages from The Hiergamenon)

Neato. Can we have it printed on vellum?

Slap the guy that wrote "their" instead of "they're" under the Rock Giants heading. For me. Thanks :)

Sick! I am glad to see a Limited Edition that actually kicks ass, worth the price and a manual that has tons of pages! Can't wait to read it!

I have always found those pics of ogres and trolls too similar.

Looks very promising.

This IS the limited/collectors/whatchamacallit edition.  ;)

Yeah lets get one that comes with a real Troll! (I mean come on, how hard can it really be? Modern Warfare came with Night Vision Goggles!)

If that's the only typo you found, then you're not looking very hard:-p  Hopefully they'll have a few proofreading passes before actually going to press!

IMG_04:

Ogres: 'they lack', not 'the lack'. Also, missing the verb in the ending clause ('looking' or 'searching' for mates of their own)

Golems: 'if their creator is killed' - each golem is singular, and likely has a singular creator.

Rock Giants: as Toppins pointed out, 'they're', not 'their'

Slags: 'swamps or rivers' or 'swamps and rivers'. Not 'swamps to rivers'.

I laugh at everyone who isn't getting the Limited Edition.

I am guessing this is a bone for us to gnaw on since Beta 2B won't be out today.

Glad I too bought the collectors upgrade. :D

Mythologically speaking, there's little to no difference between Trolls and Ogres - Trolls are essentially the Norse equivalent of the English Ogre. Although if Elemental means to use both terms and have a major distinction between the two species (one is bigger/rarer/etc than the other is not a major distinction, imo) then yeah, they should think about changing the picture (and the description while they're at it) to emphasize this theoretical distinction - as is there doesn't seem to be one :P

How much of this material is going to make it into the game itself in some form, as part of an in-game guide?

Err...

The Heirgamenon is not the manual.  I hope.  Because it would make no sense to provide the manual only to people who buy the limited edition.

The Limited Edition gets a MUCH larger manual than the standard game.

I came, i SAW, I upgraded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because the other locations did NOT give any significant indication of what the booklets(assumed size based upon descriptions in sales spiel) added to each of the versions would be like.

But I do not want or need the 'plastic' figurine, just the BOOKS.

It is a compilation of those beings that live and roam the World of Elemental. The manual should be the game rules...

Ogre: "Smarts" as a word refers to pain, using it to refer to intelligence is slang.

Drakes: "one species of Drakes prefer forests." Should be "prefers," also the next sentence begins with "And" which is a no-no.

I don't think they should be capitalizing the names of these creatures in the description either. We don't go around capitalizing "dog" or "human" everywhere.

I think they have the troll and ogre images mixed up too. I've never heard of a one-eyed troll, but ogres very typically have a single eye in modern fantasy.

I don't want to go on, there's more but I don't like nitpicking like this. >.<
