Forums go Boom every time I try to post!

Forums go Boom every time I try to post!

Has anyone else been having this problem lately? At least half the time I try to post, the forums go Boom and my post is eaten. And it's periodic; for example, I've tried to post something like 5 times in the past 10 minutes but it won't work. But I posted something earlier in the day and it worked just fine, but the day before I couldn't post anything either.

Also, if this post works, I will cry.

A day or two?

Yes, when Wincustomize.com was actually offline as opposed to server-load issues and the like.  [probably more like a week...over those 10 years].

And yes, post #347 took me 3 goes for it to take.
End of Jafo's quote

Well, you know the history better than anyone, but  you are parsing words when you say "actually offline" and therefore not counting all the times when the site is online but not usable based on the server issues or whatever. The subject is not about WC being "offline" but rather about it being non-functional without frustrating "goes" for things to "take".

I have come to agree with whoever said that continuing this thread no longer served a useful purpose though, so I shall move on and leave the conversation to others.

Ditto.

All Stardock sites are best left to the tumbleweed methinks.

(this is fourth attempt - 3 booms)

Yet, I can post once and have it go through the first time.

Why does it seem like it is more related to the region that it is posted from, rather than from the Stardock servers?

I guess that would be, because I don't seem to have that much of a problem from SoCal.

I just had my first boom in over a week... not complaining cos that's not bad compared to what others are experiencing.  And it's not because I've hardly been on...

It seems, Stardock related staff can't draw the line between 'patience' and devotion or even masochism. IMHO many people have showed 'patience' enough in the course of several years (of course staff that is only here since half a year can't know that). But that patience has now worn off, especially for me.

What really gets me off here is that the fact we actually paid for something that goes down the hill more and more. The site is only one factor of what happens here... But so be it, switching to 'customer only' mode again as long as I can use some of the apps I paid for on modern operating systems. Have Impulse for the software and I can purchase masterskins from the masters' site. Still to decide what happens to my subscriptions when they are running out. And Stardock still owes me ObjectDock 2, I paid for in advance.  Hope to get that in 1 year or 2...

Horray, one bitcher and moaner less, You can put on Your red-rose glasses again and have fun all the way. And don't stop to party even when you get lesser and lesser from Your subscriptions and the money You spent here for other purposes.

Will leave my stuff here for sentimental purposes.

I get 2-10 booms every single day I post. Sometimes it takes a few minute for the forums to show up which is not exactly daily but not as infrequent as weekly either. I don't know that the answer to overstating a problem is to understate it however.

There was one person in 15 pages that said something about not caring if they get banned, so if anything, you're talking about a problem of sensationalizing things while doing it yourself.

I was rather hoping it wouldn't come to this, C242... and not just that you're leaving.  If one person goes, it just seems that others are caught up in the momentum of the outgoing tide.  I'd rather that you didn't feel the need to leave, but you must do what you feel is right for yourself.

Anyhow, all best to you and take care. :)

Site seems to be working fine today, well atleast for me.  Wonder if I could do something to jinx it. :O

I disagree. Simply because he agrees with you Jafo does not mean he's correct. I agree with you most times (99/100) but not this time.

One or two in this thread are doing nothing more than trolling for a rise out of the site's administration.

Comments such as "I don't care if I'm banned...." tend to suggest an anti-social/anti-community/anti-site mind set.
End of quote

I agree, and that you usually deal with most effectively.

Yes, it's frustrating when [one or other of] the sites goes 'boom', just as it's likewise with slowdowns [that are most commonly apparent on weekends - as I said].
End of quote

Except it happens a good deal more than that, and the basic problem should be dealt with.

Ah...so you're only ever 99% correct then....;)

Far less than that, both here and professionally.....

*edited... my mistake (yet another...sheesh) dropping down from 99% very rapidly.

If you get a whole collection of doom-sayers in one place at one time....the 'sky will fall'....as it will be the commonly accepted/expected norm.

Paul, The sky has been falling around here for weeks, months,.. people arent posting egads and booms because they like it.... at least no one I know.

If the head admin on the site can't see whats going on around here, what hope is there? :-|

Complaining about poor forum stability and requesting better forum and forum servers is not trolling.  I don't believe I've been to a forum for a long time that has this much instability and downtime and so many posts of people telling the administrators that the forums are acting up.

Personally I think it would be cool if people could pay a bit extra on top of the cost of the game and contribute to an ultra-reliable, always-on forums system.  Maybe people could pay $5US extra and have it go into the:

Stardock Elemental Fantastic Forums Fund.  :sun:

Also, you could allow people to donate some money for server costs for a new, reliable forums system, and if they donate at least $5US they would go into a draw to win a free signed copy of the released Elemental game.  And for every person who donates some money for server costs who also buys an Elemental box version of Elemental would get a hand-signed thank you note from someone relevant in the Stardock organisation. =)

I think lots of people would be willing to donate some of their loose change to a new and reliable, always-on forum system and support one of their favourite companies.  I for one.  Because really, everyone's losing out on the current forum system, current beta testers and fans, people scared away from a great game because the forums are very unreliable, and Stardock too because they don't get as many sales.  You may be surprised at the number of people who would support a Fantastic Forums Fund for Elemental, and maybe other Stardock games.

So beta testers/fans, and Stardock employees, what do you think?  Are you willing to see that kindness to support something you love, despite all the media propaganda, is maybe a little more common than you might think?

This one for all, and all those who would go for a Fantastic Forums Fund!  k6

Best regards,
Steven.

Hmm.......a subscription to go towards making the site better? Nah, it'll never work. :-"

Ok...here's what we do....we start a topic in email...and anyone that wants to comment can be added to the contact list...then you just comment and then forward the comments on to everyone on the list and everyone can reply! Seriously! It will work! Yes we can!

Oh...wait...my meds are wearing off now....nevermind! :P

Oh, let's just be totally cynical then.  Seriously!  It will work! Yes we can!  We can encourage a great game by shooting down in flames anyone who has a different opinion to us!  Seriously!  It will work!  Yes we can!

Best regards,
Steven.

PS: I never said it would be a subscription, or that it would pay for the whole cost.  Seriously though (real seriously, not this fake stuff) do you think that the current state of the forums is a good one?  Would you be prepared to have it the same for 2 years?  3 years?  5 years?  I tried to bring a little less negativity to the thread, and you decided to give me twice the dose? Maybe your meds are wearing off, but not in the way you imagine.  It was an Us vs. Them thread - "whingeing fans vs. hard-working admins" or "lousy admins vs. fans wanting the best for the game", or possibly even both.  If you cared, why are you using flamebait?

It's easier to destroy.  It's a lot harder to build.  But also a lot more rewarding.

Steven...steven...steven...First of all...My post wasn't even directed at you. So calm down...take some meds. ;)

Most of us have been here for years (myself since 2003) dealing with this and have gone through the fund raisers....bought apps and done everything we could within our budgets to support the site and this latest rendition I'm sorry to say is worse than the last one...and not just the forums. So whether your "idea" may be a good one or not...we can only do so much. It just gets very annoying when you visit other sites where the forums work just fine and then come to the one you support and it takes forever if at all to post a reply...so a lot of us are really frustrated...and even as I type this I'm not sure it will even post. A lot of times lately when I myself try to respond to a post...if it doesn't go through the first time I don't even bother a second time anymore. I don't even bother to do the copy/paste routine like we have to if we really really want to post something.

Anyway....by all means knock yourself out with whatever idea you want to come up with. And in the meantime learn some forum manners before you go off on someone assuming they are somehow referring to you. No harm done this time.

Well, I did not know that it has been tried adfinitum. I have only been on a Stardock web-site a short time. Which is the reason for the miscommunication I think.

I'm wondering, why does Stardock not place a higher importance on the quality of their own forums, when it seems that they place a high emphasis on the quality of their games?

Best regards,
Steven.
