[CRASH]When Creating the world. Repeatable, happens every time.

DXDiag attached via link, but there's nothing to show screen shot wise.

If I change any options as far as what empire/kingdoms are in the game it crashes without ever showing anything but a black screen after the "Creating World" splash screen.  If I leave it all exacly as the defaults I get a brief flash of what looks like a chaneller in a field before the crash.  The .err file below is from one where I got a brief flash as I figured it was more likely to get you closer to the source of the problem.

DXDiag

Hope that helps!  Can't really do any more testing at this point, though I'll Try it out on the kids iMac (running WinXP in bootcamp) tomorrow.

Updated both Video and Audio drivers to the latest available.

EXACTLY the same crash at the same point.

I've redone both the DXDiag and Debug file with the latest data.

This may not exactly be a cutting edge system anymore, but I don't exactly regard it as an antiquated 386 with integrated video either. I can run most modern games/MMO's, though I have to turn down the FX on many of the more extreme.  When we bought it a few years ago it was a pretty high end desktop, with an excellent Video card etc.  If elemental can't play on this machine I'm a bit surprised given your stated goal to support even low end systems. :(

Good luck with bootcamp, though the devs have stated that only regular windows installs will be supported.

Crashing after world creation has been noted as well, here, here, here, and here, a freeze issue here, and BSODs here and here.

The best thing to do is to get your dxdiag, debug.err, and memory dump zip and post a bug on the bugtracker as per the stickied guidelines for reporting issues.

Don't worry, they will get it running on your system.  This is just the first beta, where the majority of the hardware issues are going to be brought up and fixed.

Thx scottycroft! :)

Actually, the iMac runs it smoothly without any glitches so far :).  It should be noted that it IS a regular windows install, it's not an emulator or anything flaky, running a full licensed copy of WinXP SP3 on a separate partition.

I'm pretty sure that my crash issues are coming from having an older video card, Radeon X850 XT PT, which IIRC is a DirectX 9.2 card while Brad mentioned that they were targeting 9.3 or later.  All the drivers are up to date, and when the machine was bought it was quite a good gamers rig... ::shrug::

Anyway, Looking forward to seeing how things evolve in the Beta, my 8 year old declared Beta 1 Of E: WoM to be "Kinda fun" and he has a pretty low tolerance for boring strategy games, I'm afraid I've spoiled him with my collection of great of TBS games :).  Ah well... Maybe I need to move up to a modern card anyway... At least I've got PCie X16 support and a 6 pin power cable, which most machines from when this box was bought wouldn't have had ;).

Bootcamp emulates the BIOS, but that probably doesn't come into play.  I know bootcamp usually works well, but support from SD might be a little tricky to get.

Yar, the X850 XT is a DirectX 9.0b card, but the game requires a 9.0c (officially). Kryo mentioned it might work on 9.0b, but they aren't going to support them.  Tis' a pity about the card though.  For me, my video cards have been dying on me regularly so I haven't had to deal with old card syndrome:)

Out of curiosity, will there be an announcement for when the CTD issues at the loading screen, map creation, etc. will be getting attempted changes, or should I all of us with these issues keep trying every day or so?   (since it seems this is a somewhat common issue.)

I am having exactly the same issues, judging from you debug report. My laptop isn't exactly old, either.

I'd just watch the last updated date in Impulse and try it out every time they update.  We don't know how often we will be getting updates at this point.  I expect they'll post some information about what's fixed in every update though.
