Update: Using good ATI video drivers, but old (2005). Radeon 9600/256MB of RAM. Newer ATI drivers all corrupt directx so it won't run 3d tests (using dxdiag). Installed DNA drivers for ATI (not supported), and now at least dxdiag works and I get a map. It's blank so far though...no sovereign. Looking at other posts now...
