Just In Case

I still have that pair of shoes,
the one's I've been meaning to leave on East Frank,
I figured you could use 'em,
maybe for a second I could be guilt free.

Not that I feel some responsibility
for where rest your weary feet,
or rest your head for that matter,

I feel responsible for being you.

Or at least I could have been,

I don't recall the pick and choose portion of my stay in the womb,
the same that opened to empty me into a warm home,
warmth I did nothing to earn,
and into the arms of my smiling sister,
so that I might smile on a sister and brother of my own.

I suppose I've got my own problems,
and though I never had any intention of solving yours,
you are the only problem I ever solved,

I could have been you.

So do me a favor,
look in the bus shelters on East Frank,
and I hope that you can use the kicks,
or know someone else who could,

I could have been them too.

A little token of my appreciation,
for not being me,
just in case you had any say in the matter.

My pentance,
my confession,
the cleansing of my sins,
scrubbing clean my soul with the jagged edge of yours,
forgive me my merciful friend,
for the life I was given in your place,

the life I was given...

just in case.

Your poems really bring things to life. I can see a homeless man, without shoes, hanging out at a bus stop. Him looking at you, you looking at him.......

Nobody Important...Trin,

I'm so thankful that neither of you seem to be able to read without commenting.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve,

Wow...very moving. You do have a gift mate, all your poems make me stop and contemplate, every issue you touch forces me to re-examine my thoughts, feelings, prejudices and preconceptions. I do sincerely hope you'll never stop

I feel this piece reflects a lot of what is on the inside, Sus. I'm pretty sure you would have no qualms giving up a pair of shoes and metaphorically, a lot more, to others who need it.

You're a beautiful person, Suspeckted--even more beautiful than this poem conveys....

if i believed in god, i would be blessed....
so lets just call it luck.
