come fiddle with my riddle ?

come fiddle with my riddle ?

http://www.loserturdmafia.com/

i have the strength of sixty men, i'm over ten feet tall
i'm footed, though i never move, it's said that i can fall

in grand ballrooms i can be seen holding up affairs
and i can bring the house down if i crack up near the stairs

... what am i ?

if you know the solution to this riddle, please make me very happy by posting it :) ... but if you do post the answer, you must post the next riddle to be guessed by the next successful person, and so on. or so i hope.

course, the whole thing could get ignored, too. how embarrasing that would be. hehe. oh, well ... the risks one will take in order to achieve linguistic banter these days apparently know no bounds !!!. somebody guess, dammit ;)

.. who am i ?

You got it, mig!

I'm still working on your other one, but here's another classic riddle, by Lewis Carroll:

"What is most like a bee in May?"
"Let's see--I think--perhaps--" you say;
That's good! You're thinking well today!

i love lewis carroll, citahellion. great choice.

ok, the solution is:

"'twixt "perhaps" and "may be", little difference we see, let the question go round, the answer is found"

or, the "mig" translated version:

"what is most like a maybe ? ... a perhaps"

these are great citahellion. keep them coming (until you get bored, that is !)

Okay, try this one:

As a whole, I am both safe and secure.
Behead me, and I become a place of meeting.
Behead me again, and I am the partner of ready.
Restore me, and I become the domain of beasts.
Reply #58 Top

ok, citahellion, you know what, i think i'm actually getting the hang of this here. ok, here goes:

As a whole, I am both safe and secure.
Behead me, and I become a place of meeting.
Behead me again, and I am the partner of ready.
Restore me, and I become the domain of beasts.

ok, as a whole you are stable, behead you, and you become a table, behead you again, and you become able, restore you and you become "a home for beasts" ... a stable !

that one was funky hehe. where do you get all of these ?

and since nobody got my other one, should i give clues ?. ok, i will

the name is one word only in four syllables, and it is a mythological name.

somebody get my riddle ! waaaaah !

Darn it, I'm stumped. I even flipped through some mythology reference works hoping for inspiration. You might just have to tell us the answer, Mig. Or at least some more clues.

On a brighter note, I was inspired to create this riddle myself:

First two are a parrot that is named most commonly;
Last two are well-known, out for all the world to see;
Four a one-eyed wonder in a cave where No Man be.

YAY !!!. i have redeemed myself. ok, the answer is:

my first is on behalf of you ( = "per")
my second sealess one ( "sea" less one letter = "se" )
my third and fourth together
and your speaker i become ( = "phone")

so, it's persephone

that was a sneaky one. hehe. ok, i'm going to go and work on yours, citahellion, and i'll leave you with this one:

i am the name of a "thing" ....

if to my back you do add one, your enemy i do become
if to my front you do add one, a nice exchange i am for some

my front a different one you cleat then i can ask you to repeat
my front do the same thing again and i'm the name of "it", my friend

what am i ???

good luck ... going to work on yours ehhe

Wah. I was stuck on "sealess one" = "Be" (one letter less than C). Of course I didn't get too far on the other pieces, either.
Reply #62 Top

wah back, citahellion. i can't get yours either.

but i will. i will !. if it's the last thing do. which it may well be at this rate ...

Okay, just tell me if I'm parsing the construction properly...
"thing" = XXX.
XXXY = "your enemy"
ZXXX = "a nice exchange"
WXXX = "repeat"
VWXXX = "'it'"
Reply #64 Top

ok, i can see that i might have made the last line too ambiguous. ok, you're find except for the last line

"thing" = XXX.
XXXY = "your enemy"
ZXXX = "a nice exchange"
WXXX = "repeat"
VXXX = "'it'

sorry. only one to the front to get the name of "it", so it has four letters in ecah line but the first

as a clue: the first line "your enemy" - is the action of having an enemy

citahellion, i know you'll get it now. i wish i had five minutes to return the favour and solve yours. i perversely enjoy being perplexed, but i haven't had a really good stab at it yet

Okay, I' m thinking that the "thing" in question is: a HAT, which transforms as follows:
HATE
CHAT
WHAT
THAT.

Have I got it?

For my riddle, I will mention that the answer, like your other tough one, is a four-syllable name from Greek Mythology. It's not a very widely known name, though the last line should hopefully tell you exactly where it's from.
Reply #66 Top
Oh, one other thing, the words from the first two lines will give you homophones, not the exact correct spelling. I suppose that the riddle is a bit deficient in that regard.

YES ! at last ... and i got yours too ... somebody must have woken us up or something

First two are a parrot that is named most commonly;Last two are well-known, out for all the world to see;Four a one-eyed wonder in a cave where No Man be.

citahellion, you are driving me demented !!!!

ok, i think i have it, but i may be wrong

first two are a parrot name "polly"
last two are well known, out for the world to see "us" (last 2 letters)
four a one-eyed wonder in a cave where no man be (gave you away hehe cyclops) but thanks, i needed it !

it's polyphemus !!!! (the cyclops)

citahellion, PHEW !!!!. that one was great. i am now going to think up a complete monster for revenge. if you come back that is hehe

Good going, Mig! You are correct.

you didn't interpret the second line quite completely, though...
"last two are well known, out for all the world to see" == FAMOUS.
So, Polly + Famous = Polyphemus

Just in case anyone else is still reading this, Polyphemus was the cyclops who trapped Odysseus and his men in his cave. Odysseus told Polyphemus that his name was "Noman."

I'm still reading - but I had NO idea
Reply #70 Top
Trina_p, You need to re-read (or, heavens forbid, read for the first time) The Odyssey. It is, after all, a classic.

Here's an easy one...

I know a word of letters three.
Add two, and fewer there will be.
Reply #71 Top
"Few" +2 = "Fewer"
ok I dont know any hard riddles so I'll just spit out some fun ones

Bright as Diamonds
Loud as thunder
Never still
A thing of wonder
