CursorFX officially released!

CursorFX officially released!

The successor to CursorXP

Stardock is pleased to announce the official release of CursorFX.  CursorFX is a free program that allows users to customize their mouse cursors in ways far beyond what Windows is capable of doing on its own.

The default Windows mouse cursor technology is the same today as it was in 1993 when Windows NT 3.1 was released. It lacks functionality and visual effects that are easily possible with any remotely modern PC.

CursorFX updates the Windows mouse cursor engine to support fluid animations, alpha blending, effects, real-time shadowing, user-action mouse states, mouse cursor resizing on the fly, color changing, trails, and much more.

CursorFX is a replacement to CursorXP which only ran on Windows XP.  CursorFX runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista and includes dozens of new features and tweaks over CursorXP.

A gallery for CursorFX cursor themes is available on WinCustomize.com to download hundreds of free mouse cursors, trails, effects, and more.

CursorFX is a free program. A plus version is available for $19.95 that adds more features.  To learn more and to download, visit www.cursorfx.com.

CursorXP will continue to work just fine on XP, but not Vista. CursorFX is intended to work on both Vista & XP.

--- IT IS NOT FREE ---

"Stardock CursorFX Plus includes all of the features of the CursorFX Free Trial"

Based on the quote above, I believe it's only free to try the software with most of its features disable. After the trial, if you decide to buy it, more features will be available. A better way to say it is "A free trial is available."

What is free is ObjectDock! because it's not a trial version. If you are extremely into customizing your desktop as best as possible, then the plus version would be best to have.

I just find it misleading, but Cursor FX is a nice piece of software worth having. I stopped using Cursor XP because when I played games with it, somehow it never did well - the shadow looked bad in games mode.

The "public" version has no time limit. It just doesn't have all the features.

The "free" version of Object Dock has no time limit....It just doesn't have all the features........I fail to see the difference.

I was making a comparison between the two.

Yes, ObjectDock is free but CursorFX is not - It's a FREE TRIAL

I was about to download CursorFX when I read the first line stated:

"Stardock CursorFX Plus includes all of the features of the CursorFX Free Trial"

Not that it's not worth the money, but it's just not free like ObjectDock ;)

Different pages say different things:
  • https://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/index.asp - "Free"
  • https://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/learn.asp - "Standard Features: Included features from CursorFX free version" (on the Feature tab of Plus)
  • https://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/information.asp - "Free"
  • https://www.stardock.com/products/cursorfx/downloads.asp - "Free Trial"
Looks like a page or two needs an update

CursorFX is FREE, CursorFX Plus is $19.95.  There is no time period for the free version.  I am talking to the person responsible to see about modifying the text "free trial", as that can be misleading.  Sorry for any confusion.

The CursorFX Online Guide link in the About section of CursorFX CP takes you to a CursorFX page which says "there is no text on this page."

I can find the cursors on my hard drive under program files and look at all of the cursor

XP cursors but the cursors will not work with the new cursor FX. I even downloaded a new

cursor from Stardock and the new downloaded cursor doesn't work. The only cursors that

work are the ones that came with the install.

Some time ago I moved all my CXP cursors just as Zubaz suggested in #44 and every one I've loaded works fine. What happens when you try - do you get the Windows default?
Here's one - When I go to a drop down menu in the address bar for any application the CusorFX cursor changes to windows default. Is anyone else having this issue? ;p

It isn't worth 20 bucks to me but that being said it might be worth it to someone else. Freedom of choice. :)

I just hope that good old CXP will work with any new cursors that come along after this. :(

On this computer for this particular app - If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Ok, now i just know how to use it, and i LOVE THE EDITOR! It's awesome and easy, so begginers can make they own cursors! CursorFX is cool!

Bugaroo??? :SURPRISED: - CursorFX main window goes transparent when CFX app border is clicked anywhere (top, bottom, L/R side of the window. Results in a transparent CFX window with whatever background visible where the CFX app window was previously displayed (i.e., my browser, desktop, etc...) This happens with any skin loaded on WB6 when I click the border of the CFX app.

I can reproduce it using any skin. Right now I'm using Diamond. If I unload WB then click on the CursorFX title bar or border it displays normally and will not disappear. Also, moving the cursor over the now transparent CFX app window, the left menus and the 'current theme' list re-appear but not everything in the window.

How to reproduce:
1. click Start
2. click CursorFX
3. click on any part of the border of the CFX app window and it goes transparent

System WinXP SP2,

no, its buggy. I have XP (vista is evil in my opinion) and I go to import a new theme. I get the nice thinking cursor. and...and...and...???!??!!!! NOTHING. Luckily, I used the free version. Im not spending 20 bucks on software that won't let u import your own themes.

With apologies to SD, CursorFX is now fully functional after a reboot (XPP SP2). Each profile I use required a reboot to get it to work. Should have thought of that, I suppose. Perhaps doing so will help others get it working.

just installed this and I think I found a bug. when used while Tablet PC Input Panel is running (I am using a pen tablet for Photoshoping), the CPU goes up a couple notches (25% for DWM and 25% for Tablet Panel) and my fan is pretty loud. As soon as I disable any special cursors the CPU goes back to normal.

hope this is abnormal and works fine for others.

wondering if this is reproducible on a different machine? can somebody who has curserfx and tablet PC Input running check this? thanks

Re:
Unlimited cursor size.

CursorFX Free (sorry, "Trial" is a mistake) supports cursors of unlimited size, as opposed to standard Windows cursors.
You can make a 1000x1000 pixels cursor and see that huge thing acting as your mouse pointer. Same for CursorXP Free.. there used to be that huge light saber cursor around that took 50% of the screen.

Cursor resizing is a post processing and is a CursorXP Plus only feature.
