[0.92] Giant Form mouseover description inaccuracy + typo

Oi ... there are a huge number of typos throughout LH. :/  Would it kill Stardock to hire a grammar nazi for $10/hour? :/  I would think with Brad's mention on how many lawyers he's had to hire, Stardock would have a grammarian on hand, as certain common grammar errors can flip the intended meaning of a message ... sorry, big pet peeve of mine ... maybe a thread could be started where we could list all the grammar malfunctions we find instead of putting each in their own thread.

 

But specifically with the Giant Form spell, there is both a typo and an inaccuracy; its mouseover and Hiergamenon description reads "Doubles the target units attack."  The inaccuracy is mentioning 'unit' as a target, but it seems the spell can only be targeted at heroes/champions (not just any unit).  The typo is the pluralization of unit ("units") when possessive is likely intended ("unit's").

This is not the best way to come across as helpful, and making a suggestion in good faith.

Replete spelling errors in game text in a commercial product is not the best way to come off as professional nor well-polished.  I do have a number of friends who are programmers ... it truly baffles me how poor computer programmers tend to be at spelling and grammar.  Computers tend to be far less forgiving of typos than humans (grammar nazis like myself aside, perhaps) ... so how is it a mind that can type thousands or even millions of commands precise enough for a compiler to understand fail to equally master human language?

I can explain it from the programmer's viewpoint.

Text, help files, and instruction manuals are boring. Programmers do not find them interesting and therefore skimp on the "debugging" of simple English. It is many times the most tedious part of programming a finish product for the general public.

With that said, any programmer would welcome a grammarian picking over their mistakes at this point in the Beta. These are simple fixes and gives you a sense of accomplishment to fix these bugs, when most of the bugs at this point are getting harder to find and more difficult to fix.

I would +1 a thread dedicated to spelling and grammar only.

I've seen several mistakes in game dialogue, but thought it would be just an annoyance to create an entire new thread for one or two simple oversights that really has no bearing on the game mechanics.

I would guess you would receive many more text fixes if folks only needed to Quick Reply to an already existing thread.

modern IDE's tend to have featues like Intellisense (bascally auto-completion/correction). you'll probably code faster if you can write flawlessly, but if you can't it's not the end of the world.

Yes, I am utterly self-aware, thank you ... and yes, I do enjoy throwing back a thoughtless knee-jerk response back at the jerk.  Stardock puts out pre-order betas for a reason, and its not for everyone to tell them "OMG ITS PERFECT RELEASE AS-IS!"  Naysaying constructive criticism is itself unconstructive.  I am hardly self-righteous for promoting proper English and Grammar ... unless you believe I am either immortal or channeling whomever created the English language, in which case I will back away ... slowly ...

I need to apologize, I was wrong. Clearly, grammar Nazis are Stardock's target market. People who play fantasy games are never exposed to typos or poor grammar, and have ZERO tolerance for it. And whining from gamers too refined to tolerate small problems is the ONLY way a game company will listen to suggestions. SOMEONE WITH TASTE has to keep them in line!
