This version crashes even faster than the previous few releases. And for me - after MONTHS of trying so hard to get this game to work just to a barely reasonable standard - I've had enough
I don't want to get down - but I've had this game for the best part of six months now - i've tried over and over and over again just to get the slightest bit of enjoyment out of a game in my absolute favourite genre.
Seriously - still not even basic bugs fixed? Really?
For the perhaps 30-40 hours of gameplay I've had (which was always a "knife edge - when is it going to crash and why doesn't the AI DO SOMETHING AND CHALLENGE ME experience) I've had crashes, slowdowns , stutters and OOM errors on every machine I've tried it on -and I've put a hell of a lot of time and effort into trying to get this to run and provide an enjoyable experience.
Days of my time fiddling with hardware, re-installing, resetting, visiting these forums for advice and reading others solutions to problems, implementing changes, adding software - removing software, fiddling with registry settings - you name it I've sweated blood and tears to get this bloody game working.
FIVE DIFFERENT MACHINES - all well within spec - all totally unique (not ONE shared component between them) All FAIL = ALL THE TIME
- 64 Bit Win 7 Machine - I7 2600 processor (not O/c) built three days ago - brand new system. 8 gig RAM, Geforce 580 GFX my latest machine - Crashes constantly, machine freeze or AI refused to move about every 10-12 turns
- 64 Bit Windows 7 Machine. AMD 965, 4 gig Ram, Geforce 280 GTX (hot). Now my office machine - Crashed constantly - rarely got 40 minutes without an OOM or freeze.
- 32 Bit Win 7 with Intel Core Duo E6850 - Geforce 460 then 480 (had a RTS issue and upgraded when I sent it back) crashed the least (but still 4/5 times a day)
- Alienware (Dell) laptop with 1 gigabyle 5870 GFX (It plays Crysis very well so should handle this) but guess what - it crashed about every 20 moves
- Vista 32 Bit machine (my sons) AMD 57FX with Radeon 5870. Ran well until patch 1.1. Now doesn't like it at all. However the gameplay before patch 1.1 I found so tiresome that I see no advantage in rolling back.
Different operating systems, processors, graphics cards, sound systems - EVERYTHING
The only common factor on these 5 machines was - Elemental FAILED ON EVERY ONE.
I can play Crysis on all but the 57 machine, I can play Civ 5 on all but the 57. Dragon Age 2? No problem, WoW - yup -they all handle that most on full detail, Distant Worlds - check - Battles from the Bulge - check - in fact everything I've thrown at them -works - without exception. The one thing that doesn't work on one - fails on all five.
That tells me it is definitely and incontravertibley the SOFTWARE NOT THE SYSTEMS that is faulty. And after 6 months of promises and fixes that do little or nothing to address key failings in game stability and challenge it is enough. You've had your chance - this game is a monumantal FAIL
Six months is enough already
If I was you I would just give up now and refund your unhappy customers - Those that are enjoying it fine - but for the rest I think it's time for a refund. I for one have had quite enough of this bull.
There are enough games that offer a decent challenge. Battles from ther Bulge is calling - is is Distant Worlds (a massive 4x with a one man core development team that WORKS OUT OF THE BOX)
You should be ashamed of this shambles
