We already have genetically modified crops. Most crops are just by natural evolution. The newer scientifically manufactured, laboratory, Frankenstein vegetables are just as safe and just as, if not more, nutritious than anything prior. You are correct about yields, but the cost are far from prohibitive. It's the environmentalists, the dictatorial governments, and the voodoo mindset about science that keep people from eating.
