WINNER.TAKE.ALL Allow retreating but offer up some reasons not to do so. Attacker retreats: attacker gets morale penalty, defender a morale boost Defender retreats: defender loses morale (and what they were guarding), attacker gets morale boost (and their prize) Controlling the length of a tactical battle. I say go for lore first as customiztion can bring about balance issues and I want the game sooner rather than later. [e digicons][/e]

Great decision and one more devs/publishers should follow. The only players who would be angry by the decision are those that don't have the games' best interest at heart. The rest want this to be our 'baby' as much as it is Brad's. Get it right and make this a game to be proud of!

It sounds like basic modding in Elemental will be very straighforward. I'm still pondering learning Python/Ruby for all of the 'other' things I could do with them. Considering they both seem much more user friendly, I think this might be the right time for me to get started. It seems at least a few of you are familiar with Python. Does anyone have experience with Ruby?

I have heard of many programs that use Python (Google, Youtube, EVE Online to name some big ones), so it's certainly a plus when it comes to 'community'. Considering Ruby is similar, it's tough to predict if it could surpass Python. I have heard great things about Rails, but I'm not sure how important that is to me at this early stage. I appreciate the input!

I will appologize in advance if this is in the wrong location, but since it is directly involved with Elemental modding I figured it wouldn't hurt. [e digicons][/e] I credit EWOM with exciting me about modding and therefore wanting to learn to program. I dabbled in Basic some 25 years ago for school, but it wasn't anything serious or that I even remember. I attempted to learn C++ out of a book, but it never caught on with me. I would like to develope scripts
Quoting Tormy-, reply 147 If the produced ore will be a "global resource"....I doubt it, but I am not sure. I am kinda confused about this upcoming resource system right now. The way it's described, it works like this: 1. You either build an improvement with a town, or use a pioneer, to capture a resource. Let's say Iron Ore. So you get an Iron Ore mine. 2. Your mine pr

I have to agree on all counts. It is nice to see almost everyone involved focused on making the game better as opposed to rushing through the beta stages to see more content. That is obvious by the completion percentages on the lower side of 50%. It also gives me more faith that game mechanics will be changed, tweaked or scrapped if they aren't fun. It would be easy to bang out another generic strategy game, but they are treating this one differently. Elemental has that much potential
I love the fact that we'll feel more 'invested' in each and every citizen instead of the usual 'send the masses to their deaths'. I don't think it will be that immersive. Not like how we were attached to our soldiers in x-com, or how we were attached to heroes in MoM. I think it's going to be more strategic (military might vs. people available to gather) rather than "OMG, Thorin Razorback died in that battle! N

Quest: 'He Who Laughs first........' You receive word from a reliable source that an assassin has been hired to kill your offspring. You know you must find the would-be killer before they can strike. Various clues (a bribeable contact, a coded message, etc) will lead you to your target. Find them and take them out before any of your children pay the ultimate price. Quest: 'Scavenger Hunt' A lonely old wanderer asks you to aid him in&n

At first I was thinking mini-games like a few others have suggested, but then I changed my mind. I still agree with needing something 'to do' in between turns, but I'd like to keep it as part of THIS game. I like the 'bank' idea, not as time, but for 'spells/abilities'. For example, the quicker you complete your turn, the more 'mana' you have to mess with your opponents. This is calculated by taking the difference between the FIRST player t

Potent talent allows you to have 2 children (sex is still random) Dark talent adds a bonus to attack when an enemy is killed Addicted weakness distracts you (for 1 turn) from your studies every 5 turns

Here is my thought for something different though I originally jumped on the 'organic' road idea. I'd like to have a 'transportation officer'. This would be someone I promote (train) to build/maintain the road network. The better the training, the quicker things get done and for fewer $$. Here is what they would do and the commands I could issue them. *They would 'hold the funds' I allocate them for the building/maintaining of our transportation network

I'll pick up both eventually, but I'm more excited for Elemental. My worry is about playing Civ AFTER Elemental and it not measuring up. That may end up being the case for LOTS of games! [e digicons][/e]
