Haeso, I understand your point about having random planets/resources and it being a pain if your in a "bad start position"... Thats a good point, but at the same time, I think a "type" of tournament that includes random planets/resources is important...It judges how well you ADAPT to a different scenario... If you don't know how far away your opponent is immediately, whether you'll have lots of metal or crystal, etc...It makes things more exciting and require more instant-decision-making. <b

As a long time Stardock supporter (Since 2003 I believe), I can't say i'm surprised :). These folks listen, guys. Good Job all, keep up the good work. Go Ironclad! On a side note, there was way too much negativity on the forum lately IMO. I'm glad its "calmed" down and the *constructive* suggestion threads have become more prominent. Lets keep it this way and the devs will keep reading the forums =p. See ya in IRC, Brad. Hope we can catch another game sometime. Maybe this time

Kruelgor, please give this up =D. Not an argument your going to win... JinxOfSin, that is my biggest fear actually...That people new to the game (or even devs!) will read these threads full of bad information (sorry, but it is) and believe them... Gotta do what we can to "clean" it up. I don't care what people believe and how they play, but don't spread falsehoods when a SIMPLE test (as shown above) can "prove" it wrong. CptSiddy, Sins is fun with partners you can trust. The pr

ummm Corpse_maker, I've been playing TEC pretty much exclusively since 1.03...and yes, on large maps too...It also just so happens that some of my opponents were vasari... so that statement of yours fails =p. Heck, look at my previous post when I mention a 5v5 against Cykur. I was TEC. He was Vasari. He went RA in that game (on the other team). It was a 100 planet 5 system game (each team started on one system). If that doesn't qualify as a large map I don't know what will.<br

He also increased bomber hp by 50%. You have to be careful with raising their DPS significantly or they will do more of those "1 shot kills" in decent numbers. Raising their durability on the other hand, has a smaller chance of making them "too good". Might just make them last more than 6 seconds against flak =).

Frankly, I don't think RA needs to be nerfed. Its a risky strategy to pursue, it leaves you vulnerable while getting it, and your not invincible when you DO get it if they raid your gates.

I've also been a long SD fan and I have faith IC's (frankly tiny) development staff will get things right in the end. Regarding innociv's mod (and his post), hes a friend I talk with frequently on the sins IRC channel... I agree with 95+% of his changes, so yeah...I'd like to know what in that mod breaks SP...

RA is definitely effective. On the other hand, its fairly easy to stop (multi-star system games are a bit different)... Cykur, remember that 5v5 multi-star system where you went RA? I was TEC (so was innociv)... By going mass-economy, we managed to stay within 85-90% of your fleet-supply usage throughout the whole game(if I remember correctly from the after-game graphs)... I don't know which fleet would have won that fight but given how RA gives you all those skirmishers...carriers...I would be

Out of all the "light frigs" the disciples have the best chance against LRM. This is designed, I assume, because advent cannot LRM spam effectively. This is not to say that an advent doing disciple-spam will really have a chance against a TEC doing LRM spam. Yes yes, in any single game, a advent spamming disciples can beat a TEC player doing LRM-spam...skill level, economy, etc, all play a role. How about doing a simple test: Pick 20 LRM, add up their supply/crystal/metal/credit costs.

I don't understand this whole MP and SP balance differentiation. Balance is balance. If the AI is doing bad things, you don't nerf the things the AI is building...You change the AI to use the units properly! Fix the problem, don't change the world to lessen the problem. I agree that the AI's use of siege frigates is annoying, but its still annoying in 1.03 even if its a bit less effective. On the other hand, siege frigates are now useless by any decent metric. I'll simply make another cap ship..

I'd just like to say that most "experienced" players agree that fighters/bombers from cruiser-carriers are not worth their cost in resources/supply (In the Sins IRC channel anyhow :p). This is not to say someone cannot win WITH the carriers, but they would simply win faster/easier with another unit. The biggest reason for this is that carriers have so many counters since they are wimpy targets that can't fire back (and thus vulnerable to fast ships)...and their not that effective most t

God, you guys are making me depressed. I miss MoM so much, last time I tried to install it/play, nothing worked :(. Almost makes me want to buy a really crappy old machine with the old windows software to play it :p. Can't wait for the Not-MoM beta from Stardock. Imagine picking 3 games from my "all time" hall-of-fame list: Populous, xcom, Master of Magic...omg... My biggest fear here is that just by listing those, my expectations are already so high, it might be impossible to come wit

tlwhite01, I think you've made a few assumptions... I was the one to mention the whole "aspect of perceived intelligence level and subculture seperation."... My mother was the first one in my family to go to College and i'd say we definitely are "middle class" given how I'm still paying off college loans at age 28... If that qualifies as a "power monger" family, I have no response...heh. I certainly agree with you that having money does not indicate intelligence. Many of the most intell

Very good post, Mr. Lemming. I heartily agree that scientific progress will either save us...or destroy us. Hopefully the former. I'm sure your familiar with how quickly mankind is progressing now versus what we did 50 years ago. I only expect this "race towards the future" to speed up... At the same time, watching the US's progress in their space program with NASA over the last 30+ years...Well, its been sad to say the least. God knows I wish we invested more into their funding, as i'm

One analogy i've always liked is the glass with water and ice cubes in it. If over time, the ice cube melts...during that melting process, your drink stays pretty cold right? What happens when the ice is done melting? Is that water still cold? How quickly will it heat up then? What will this new water-temperature do to our oceans/world? Lets not consider the salt content, etc etc etc of the oceans too... -Fernando

Speaking of flaws, we could consider the effect of medical advances on the gene pool as well. People with deadly defects used to die, those with debilitating ones used to not reproduce...In many cases, both those cases have them be "cured" or "treated"...But the genetic predilection for those conditions gets passed on to their children now... Which means, every generation we have more and more medical problems which need to be treated. Certainly, looking at many medical surveys done in the last

On the subject of killing off all the dumb people, who would clean the streets, take out the garbage, etc, if we did that? They serve their purpose to society...Not that every garbage man is dumb, by any means...People come from different backgrounds of opportunity, etc. The sad part is, on average, the poorer folks have many more children. People who don't go to college tend to have more children than those who do, etc. Over time, what will this trend do to the gene pool? The

I've been reading people's comments and I'd like to throw out an idea with regard to the "jump star-chain" restriction issue. Personally, I like both ideas: A B C 1) The idea of having a series of star systems be connected by "jump-pathways", whereas ships with jump go from A to B, but can't go from A to C. 2) The idea of having "special jump-drive" ships be able to go from A to C without hitting B. These ships would of course be more expensive, off-jump-lane trave
