if you buy windowblinds you can only update it - no sure what it is now but it used to be you would WB updates frees for a year or the next full version which ever was later you can upgrade your WB purchase later to ObjectDesktop at a discount don't know what your bad online experience was but I bought Ojectdeskop on disk and having been updating online since 2003 first using Stardock Central and now using Impulse
