By contrast, Civilization IV, which did make some sacrifices for multiplayer, is still a blast months later single player. I love playing an 8 player tiny map on the American plains at Prince level. Other times I'll split it up into different islands. Hey, thanks for the tip Frogboy. I'd be seriously hurting waiting for GC2 to be done if not for GC1, Civ3 and now Civ4. It would be hard to debate that multiplayer should be part of the base gam

Alright! I guess I'm one in a thousand that has a working game. I have had some CTDs and some other slowdowns/shimmys. It would be nice to have a perfectly running game out of the shoot, however at least for me, it is playable for long periods of time w/o too much of a problem. I took a chance on civ 4 but was really tired of the bs diplomacy system in civ 3. There are alot of things in civ 4 that are different from civ 3; there are
Multiplayer? I will never play it even when it comes out. Give me a game with replayablity, just like GC1, and I'll be as happy as I can be!
You've got a lot of great advice already. IMO, the following are usually the best for initial abilities: 40 Diplomacy (populists and +20 diplomacy ability) (better trades, very important at higher difficulties) 5% Planet Quality (after colo rush, colonize level 14s, After the 1st PQ improvement, boom, L16 planet) +1 speed (specially on the larger maps, on small or mini maps, I'd probably forget this one, perhaps grab some economics) Have fun and good luck, Ma
I recently voted on the GC1 poll about whether you would buy another expansion or not. I answered "yes". In an expansion, I'd like to see an upgraded AI as well as new tech/ships. I am curious as to what the others that answered yes would want to see in a GC1 expansion?
ngle player game is the focus of GC2.
Wulfer, here and accounted for....
> #2 is the best looking close up, in my opinion As for realism, will the metal alloys or composite structures created in the future have a high sheen or have a flat appearance? I believe that both are possible.
d? More likely, it is simply the texture blending with the forest/grasslland area(s) adjacent? Wulfer

That's good to know you all are taking care of the people with low end systems. However, I'm planning on having a Doom 3 capable machine in the not too distant future. So, I'd like to have all the eye candy effects that you can send my way! ;)
Stardock has ruined me and I can prove it! I've played GC for well over a year and continue to play it, even though at a lower amount. So, I've played, tried to play, or tried to re-start playing some of the following fairly recently. Space Empires Gold IV Even though there is a lot of meat here, I couldn't get past the 10 year old graphics and sound. Thanks Stardock AOW2:SM All around nice TBS game for everything but the sucky AI. I did finish the campaign th
I haven't played MoM but definitely will buy MoM2. GC is one of my favorite games of all time because of it being an excellent game as well as the superb support and superb updates. Good luck and thanks! :D
The one tid-bit I'd add is to make sure you have some diplomacy in your intial allocation/political party. This helps greatly in getting decent/good tech trades with the minors and majors. Start with 40-50 diplomacy in total. I have found this the one greatest help to me to get over the hump. Also, if you are able to construct diplomatic transistors, never trade it away. Good luck and welcome to GC.
I think evenually, the 2 will merge with the TV because as we know, nothing is forever. However, for right now because keyboards are an optional item for consoles (I have yet to see anyone who has a console(s) have a KB), they will not replace the PC as a gaming system in the near future. Until the keyboard is a standard plug-in (not an optional plug-in), consoles games will continue to have limited scope. Generally speaking, games, which require intensive thought to be played like strateg
I agree with most of what is said above. Cnly other thing is, although the PC game shelf place is evaporating, the consoles will not kill off the PC as a game system. Until they make a console more like a PC with a keyboard etc., it's just not going to happen. Even after the keyboard is a standard plug-in, I still wont count out the PC. Why? Because the competetion will be so severe from all of the "big guys" looking for the easy money that many medium/small houses will again look at the PC
1) Ship Design "I do not build ships now or engage in wars" It's interesting that it dawned on me while reading Technician's post that I do tend to stay out of war and am a "builder" for the most part. So why did I pick ship building as my number 1 item for GCII. I think my modified wants list goes as follows: 1. Colony Management - Needed when you control both mature and new/immature planets. 2. Ship Design - Still important, ship design where you could increase your fre
I'll go with Bromoser's list exactly as well.
Hey Xoletl, I have the same issues as but like you I don't want to cheat. I'd like to play the way the game is designed. Otherwise, I'm off to a new or different game. I do use the "control n" quite often whether it's a low PQ earth or starting at the side of the map. I'll play the campaign once it is finished but I like the random maps. BTW, you can use those minors at your version of the game. I don't go after the trade items, diplomatic transmiters, etc. because you can tr
I can not seem to start a random game anymore without picking up some sensors for the "huge" map size. Starting with technologists and 3 points into sensors and you are looking at 5+ sensors. I've found this to help a bunch in the intial land grab since the colo ship can see about half way across the grid. My last game I started with no added sensors but +2 speed. Having +2 speed kind of compensated not having sensors but I went fairly early on to get the Eyes Of The Universe. The

Ok, I was not able to submit an standard random game with an alliance victory. So today I played a tiny universe and won with a military conquest victory. However, unlike some others, I got the same error message about not being able to submit senario games that are in beta. (This is after the patch on 3-27).
I've encountered a bug which is new to Friday's update, (3-27-04). I tried to submit a standard random game w/o anything changed (eg. dark earth, etc.) but when I submit, it tells me you cannot submit a campaign senario. I have submitted many games before with 1.49 but this is the 1st game since yesterday's patch. Anyone else having this problem? Nevermind, I've read others are having similiar issues. And yes, the game was a alliance victory, huge map, for 60k. [Message Edited]
Did they remove the non-military victory score nerfs? I don't know but here's what I did to test it out. I just posted a Maso Tiny Military Victory which gave me 26,190. Afterwards, I went back to the game saved a couple of turns earlier. I developed an alliance with the one AI left. The alliance victory gave me a reported score of 21,484 or about 18% point loss.
I submitted a maso tiny alliance victory earlier today under 1.10 and it's score originally was 19,160. After updating to 1.11, the score is now 32,440 (69% higher point total).
I'd like another difficulty level inbetween crippling and maso. Licking the boot soles of the AI the entire game isn't a whole lot of fun. Winning the tiny map maso game is not too difficult but so far I find winning the gigantic map size impossible at maso level (with all races at incredible). Keep up the excellent work. I'm looking forward to the pay expansion if it goes forward, as well as GC2.
