I’m having great fun exploring the game and have worked my way through five games on Easy (random medium, 4 AIs). I find it strange that so far I’ve always ended up with an ally. All I have to do is attack a neighbor (which I’ll do anyway) and another of the AI factions is generally delighted. Getting one AI to be neutral or friendly is a great help. <p cl

Lots of good suggestions here. I’ve taken some notes so I can look for them the next time I go to the used book store! I quickl
Just checked - yes, it is 1.11. I think that is the latest update.
A helpful poster suggested replaying the tutorial after wading through a few games to hone my novice skills. That was a good idea since I missed some features that I now see as helpful (forming fleets, finding units spread over a system, building static defenses in specific areas rather than randomly). <span style="font-siz
Well, since I totally missed the point on research it is amazing I won my first two medium map games on Easy. I like the idea of queuing up research (fire and forget) – I assume that it will research in the order it is clicked. Pre-paying the costs might be a problem, though. And you’ll get a situation report when the tech is done in the lower left of the screen, right?
Hi all, Thanks for the thoughtful posts! I am a TB person, and I had no clue at all there was a Pause feature. I read the manual a few times looking for it and saw nothing (but may have missed it). This will help a LOT! <span style="font-size
I just got Sins and jumped right in. I general dislike RT games but this one has enough substance to keep me interested. But, I'm kind of lost on the tech tree, and a real time game doesn't lend itself toward lingering to make choices. So far I've mainly
I just got Sins and am working my way through the tutorial. I've done Basic Gameplay but am stuck on Basic Logistics. When my frigate constructors complete the Gause defensive platform nothing happens. Is that it for Basic Logistics? Also, is there a pause button anywhere? I don't see it on the interface or in the manual. Thx, Hydro
Star Trek is a popular archetype for ships, and I have to admit I have a weakness for them. Ronin’s are beautiful, as are Axel Kane’s (above). Here are a few I’ve cooked up, which blend Star Trek, Birth of the Federation, and Star Fleet Battles. <span style
A couple of other tricks I saw posted elsewhere: Very fast transports. I used this to take out a Vegan. The first one didn't quite make it (speed 16 wasn't enough). The second one made it and scored me a nice shiny PQ15 world. If you have a mean streak you can use this against the other AIs, of course - let the Pirates clear the room and then send in the fast transports! Another item was an Event where every planet in a system went to PQ10. The 5 planets were just there waiting
Please, no detailed ground combat. I'm perfectly happy deciding big-picture strategy, which is what a turn base game is all about. The last thing I want to do is push around infantry and tanks - sounds like a jittery click fest. Ack. Hydro
I just had my first Pirate Mega Event and I haven't had so much fun in a LONG time. Posted a summary with screenshots in the AAR subforum. Hydro

Post-game Observations I’ve played a few games with Terrans on a huge map and they mostly end with a diplomatic victory after one or two races are eliminated. I have say I’m not sure if this is a result of my play style or not, but it is kind of spooky how all the races suddenly love me once my military starts an asymptotic rise and one or more races are under my heel. But then, if my neighbor was huge and (on occasion) aggressive I’d likely play nice, too. It has been commente
January 2232 Admiral Chin sat at a grand table within an ornately decorated hall with the actual leaders of the Korx, Altarians, Iconians, Yor, Arceans, and even the Drengin. The Korx was resplendent in his jewel-bedecked robe and was busy chatting with the Iconians, who had lucrative mutual trading relationships. To the left the Altarian Resistance Leader was trying to carry on a conversation with the Yor, who looked rather ill at ease among the organic beings. A sly smile by the Altar
August 2231 “That’s the last, Captain,” Ensign Watkins stated. “Winkler got the last Dominator.” Image 19: Terran Destroyers in Combat “Good,” Captain Sarah Griffiths said. “What’s the status of the fleet?” The ensign took a moment to study his panels. “The destroyer ]i]Bradley’s hull is down to less than 50 percent. February 2231 The destroyers Tempest and Prairie were in close formation as they approached the home world of the Scottlingas. Both ships had the signature saucer forward hull of the Terran Alliance in Beta Quadrant. Each saucer bristled with level three plasma beams, which were energized. There were no shields and no armor on the functional ships, which had one purpose – raw firepower. The intentions of the two ships were by now very clear to the Scotlingas, sin
Mambaman – painful. I’m not brave enough to go much higher! Freeman – excellent point. I’ll edit the text with my next post. Hydro

Not quite sure, but it wasn't too long. I have the autosave set to every 4 turns. I'll likely play the game through. I'll just lose the benefits of being neutral. Hydro
In my most recent game as Terrans I researched Xeno Ethics, picked Neutral and went on with the game. Shortly afterward tabbed out and GC2 crashed. When I restarted from an autosave I found I didn't have an alignment and couldn’t pick an alignment of any sort even though Xeno Ethics was complete (and I purchased Harmony Crystals). <?xml:namespace prefix =
I’m a long time fan of Star Fleet Battles, which I started playing back in the first release in the early 1980s. I mainly played the Kzinti, but love the Feds, too. The GC2 ship designer is great fun. I was inspired to create a few ships based (loosely) on SFB. I see you have the Feds ironed out. Here are a few images of the ships I’ve used in ToA. Great AAR! Terrific screenshots too. What service do you use? Hydro
I’ve played a number games with ToA, mostly at Painful level. ToA is great, but one item in particular is puzzling: why do some of the AI’s refuse to build a military? In essentially all of the 6 games I’ve taken to the end one or more of the AIs has either build no military or did so very late (and when they were already dead). The key offenders here I’ve noticed are the Drath and Altarians, and sometimes the Tha
