E:wom is completely different from FE because of the different pixel shader. The missing textures bug in E:wom was only due to using an older pixel shader - that's why they couldn't fix it for so long. You can't really draw any conclusions from graphic bugs in FE based on E:wom.
The October status report is from FE and has the 'event icon graphics missing' bug.

My first thought was that the first image looks really great, none of the annoying glitches I see in WoM. Then I noticed you said that lighting was off. Either lighting causes them or you've squashed a couple of bugs. One example of what I'm talking about can be found in a dev diary pic here: http://www.draginol.com/images2010/Elemental-October-Status-Report_B62F/image_3.png <

I just tried the newer version. I actually found it funny that I got a chance with a beta. Nice to see what's been changed since then :-) The game does need some tooltips, crashes for some people (personally haven't seen a single bug or crash) and has a somewhat unpolished feel in places, especially with lacking information. But there's nothing so far that makes me regret preordering it. The actual game design seems very solid and for me that's what counts. To

Nice pics. And I agree that some background for Relias should make it even better. What would be appropriate? He's an adventurer, but trees and mountains are already taken.
Quoting Alstein, reply 96There will be a beta before release, I'd check the forums to see how people are responding to the game. I think this is unfair. A beta is incomplete by intention. If you want an opinion about a game that you can depend on, wait for the release and read reviews.
I wonder which way would beta evaluation be unfair. I think people had a lot better opinion on WoM before

Nice to see some old friends in the pictures. I know most of the Supercell guys from the days when I worked at Digital Chocolate. The other two studios I've worked at don't exist anymore. I hope that's coincidence, not an effect I've had ;-) The article is slightly outdated already, though. Supercell just moved to a larger office.

This is actually an old post for WoM, but I'll quote it completely here: "My question stems from experience with Heroes of Might and Magic 3. On the highest difficulty level the AI players got immense bonuses and some scenarios were nearly impossible to defeat because of their resource advantage. However, once the player got access to certain spells, the game became a cakewalk. The AI clearly didn't take them into acco

Great list Heavenfall! I would like to put even further emphasis on the line you put in italics: How the AI feels and acts should be represented in its conversations with the player. Civ 5 started with AI doing what I consider good moves, but since they were never communicated to the player, it felt like the AI was just crazy.

I don't. I've got plenty of wargames. What I don't have is good 4X fantasy strategy games. Tactical combat can be very cool, but I feel it is ultimately just a proving ground for what you've accomplished on the larger scale. I don't want them to be complex, I just wamt them to be fun and out of the way soon enough that the main focus of the game remains on the world map.

Mainly bug fixes, balance and AI improvements. You can find the patch notes in the WoM News, shouldn't be hard to find. There won't be any further patches for a while now, so if you ever plan on playing WoM, now is a good time. Edit: Here's the two sets of patch notes: https://forums.elementalgame.com/410740 https://forums.elementalgam

You can always mod in new weapons and armor and name them appropriately. Research "Unarmed combat basics" and you get weapons "Jab" and "Tackle" with armor "Unarmed dodge". "Expert unarmed" tech would give weapon "Tiger style Ninjutsu" or whatever you want.. And I really hope they change the way weapons and plate armor interact. In the old post, cutting weapons were particularly effective against plate armor while crushing weapons were ineffective. Reality goes the other way around. B

In addition to the OS and some programs, there's quite a few games that can benefit a lot from SSDs. Total War games and Sword of the Stars being the ones I'd prefer on an SSD. They have huge load times before entering battles and you can cut that down. Since one has to rely on Steam to play Total War, you need to create symbolic links from your HDD to SSD for the games you want to run from there. Steam only allows a single drive/folder for games, so you need to cheat it a bit

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with item 2. There are far too many existing mechanics that don't work properly or have poor AI handling. No need to add more to the mix. And besides, in a contest of historical accuracy vs gameplay, gameplay trumps. More spells would truly be cool. I'm hoping they add them to FE. Since Frogboy is alone with WoM development currently, I don't think he's going to implement stuff that would need new graphics, sounds or

Glad to hear you've managed to make the necessary changes! If you always do what you always did, you always get what you always got. Making hard decisions is what makes managers / directors good. Anyone can make easy decisions..
I'm ok with new spells as long as 1.4 first fixes it so that the AI will use them, and then anything new added in 1.5 is also included. Honestly, at this point I think there is plenty to do to just get everything balanced and working. We are way past the point of needing content. I'd rather have a solid base first, which is what Brad has been focusing on. Save the new

Two oldies: 1) AI champions have had difficulties in getting stat upgrades from level (points not assigned) and their equipment is often poor compared to tech levels. The latter issue may have alleviated slightly with 1.19n, not sure. For higher difficulty levels, I wouldn't mind AI champions getting upgraded equipment even without paying for them. At least assign the stat points. 2) Strategy map pathfinding has a problem. It prefers forests over plains. And of cou
I just ordered a PC but I am also learning how to make iOS stuff.
Why not make a game or two while you're at it? While the AppStore is filled with tons of games, there are precious few good strategy games available. Right now I'm rooting for the publishing of King of Dragon Pass by A#. I really hope they do well and we get to see some games with more content beneath the surface.

Yes Roloccolor, being with kids take up all one's attention and the pads require both hands. When I'm with the kids (multiple here too), I don't use any form of electonic entertainment. TV, tablet, computer, etc. The kids won't be young forever and I would rather spend the time with them, although it's not always instantly gratifying.. That said, this is exactly the reason the tablet is better than the computer for me. I don't dedicate hours of my days for the

Youtube videos show fine. I just placed my tablet on the desk to show them while I write this on my laptop. A good keyboard is still a good keyboard. Now if Stardock forums moved to flash, then I'd have to reconsider ;-) Personally I think flash will be outdated faster than tablets.

Interesting read. Here I am, writing a forum reply on my iPad while my high-end PC I built two years ago (still quite powerful) is gathering dust. I do use the computer for heavier gaming needs, but I use the pad a whole lot more. Having small kids and sitting quietly at a desk don't mix too well..
