PC Gamer is "my publisher"? Man, I need to track down those royalty checks. Awesome response dude. Totally dissected my complaints in a clear and logical manner. Couldn't have been better. Your case is solid!
I was aware of those, but there should be a city growth bonus like the ones for magic, materials, research etc...
I had the same question. Maybe I missing it but there doesn't seem to be a way to upgrade or retrain units. The "upgrade" option basically just designs a new unit and leaves the existing one as is.
I got the initial 0-day and played the post release patch as well. I have not played 1.05 yet as I haven't had the time. So far: The Good: I love the option to build my own sovereign. I like the research interfaces for both magic and worldly knowledge. Simple, easy to understand. The map's geography is pretty and easy to read. The little unit models are nicely done including their animations. The Influence of MoM is
Quoting greywar, reply 187 I think it has little to do with the game or the fairness of this review. It has to do with their credibility. I didn't see them coming to the rescue when the Total War forums was filled with complaints about crashes, bugs and an unplayable game. No, they gave the game such superlatives I thought it was a joke when I read it and many other reviews at that time.

I agree. Don't just whinge, make suggestions. If your here saying this it means you paid for the game so tell the developers what you want and thus ye shall receive.
I believe I just did? I want balance. I want the things in the game to not be broken in terms of it's basic game mechanics. I just told them that. I did pay for the game yes. I should have "received" on launch day. Ergo <a href="
Not much to do with the conversation above, but the naming convention a friend used - when designing new units, was: Peasant (the original start unit) Peasant 1.1 Peasant 1.2 Peasant 1.3 Heh.
That is pretty awesome:) I tend to use profane names just to keep my interest level up.
Once you figure out how overwhelming the Lord Hammer is for early units it is pretty easy to steamroll the AI in sandbox mode right now. Also, since the instant resolve is so damn efficient it becomes easier to just let it win the big battles for you.
The problem is that unless you have 10 or more in spell research fromt he city then 10% bonus just isn't very significant. If you really focus a city hard towards one goal and then choose that bonus every time your city levels you can get a decent increase but unless you are pumping a fair amount of whatever without the bonus the bonus is too smal to make much of a difference. I would love to see a "agriculture" city focus bonus as well.
Quoting greywar, reply 184 The mag being hypocritical doesn't make this game less broken or more finished. Enough with the "mag is biased" strawman. And I didn't say that. If you read what I posted, you see I mention that it is fair to criticize a buggy game. So you think that it's not fair to criticize PC Gamer for their inconsistencies?
Quoting enigma691, reply 156Empire Total War was imho way buggier on release and still managed to get high scores from nearly all the major reviewers. I thought it was the worst by far of all the total war games released. Yet somehow this game is worse for having all the bugs that Total war had? Yeah I would say this reviewer has some sort of axe to grind with either stardock or the CEO. This game has a few glitches but it is still playable wh
I have to agree here. The combat balance is totally shot, the shards are nearly useless, and magic in general is the same. Lord Hammer units are easy to obtain almost immediately and are massively overpowered to the point of making my Sovereign obsoltete right away. This game was at least 2 months of gameplay testing away from release. I don't even care about the crashes.
This is total bull. Elemental is more bug-free and playable than most major house releases on day-0. Another crappy commercial gaming rag slamming the games that aren't made by major advertisers.
Behold the power of lowered expectations.
You're a troll and very wrong. You are just jumping on the complain about any little thing bandwagon and it's very apparent. I bet you don't even have the game. I would bet many that are complaining don't even have the game. .... So stop your exxagerating and copycatting threads and start actually playing the game all the way through. You'll find it's a great
Thanks for the tips. I have also taken to winning game after game by ignoring magic altogether and using auto-resolve. There are some serious balance and AI issues that need to be beaten into submission.
I am a rabid Stardock fanboy and evangelist, ask any of my friends or just review my long disused blog over at JU... That said: I agree with the PC Gamer article with the exception of "the quote". I *want* to love Elemental but I don't. I really don't care about the bugs or crashes (although I have lots) since the autosave feature prevents me from losing more than a turn of play but I was seriously underwhelmed by the game design and balance issues the game has. After days of obsessively checking the forums for news I see this. Way to enable my OCD habits Mr. Wardell:) Wish i could come up with a good reason to not be at work tomorrow. *edit: I hadn't posted since 2008 until now? Good grief!
