Not sure if its been mentioned, but I bought the game from a store and tried in install it on my laptop. It gets to the auto run, but won't run. Just makes a weird sound with the CD in the drive, which makes me think it is a hardware problem. Anyway, I was wondering if I could download a copy through Stardock with my CD key? Any help would be appreciated it or it will be a long week stuck here at college <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_

Actually, as far as the story, it should be like Gal Civ 1. The Aliens have already had ships in space, been charting space, been around space due to the gates. The Humans just created a way to compact the gate technology and put it on the ship.

I bought the retail version of the game, so I have a CD code, but for some reason my laptop won't read it. It's an Inspiron 5100, meets all the requirements to play, but the game hangs when I click install. Is there a way I can just download it from Stardock to play using my CD key? Havn't found the option, but it would be great to get it for when I travel.

Okay, this is what I do. I play as a custom race, so your mileage may vary, but it should be the same as my last game was as Federalists as well and none of my starting bonuses were economy bonuses (military type bonuses only). 1. Go into your star port and design a new colony ship. One that allows you to move 3 parsecs, not 2. 2. Set your spending to 100% 3. Set your military rate to 100% 4. Put a fact

First, siege mode dramatically changes how the game is played. Ask any Starcraft player about siege mode and they'll tell you it's something you have to plan for. And yes you can increase its attack and defense 3 times each and the prerequisites for those improvements are more than simply having the previous one. I'm looking for

It depends where you build your ships. Your best bet would be to customize a ship with no defenses, no engines, no sensors, no life support, and just a weapon system. This would keep cost production down a lot and you'll get your military rating up. Also, play with your sliders. Don't be afraid to crank up your social slider real high, build a factory or two on a planet with a star port, then slide up the military slider up nice and high

There are low level difficulties available. You sound like a beginner. That would be a very fitting place for you to start int his game as the above poster said. There was a whole post by the developers why multiplayer was not put in. The reasons where that about 1/3 of all gaming costs go into mutliplayer and about 5% of gamers only use the option, I believe. Not only that, but with that much money going into multiplayer, DEV time from

You can purchase small non-cosmetic upgrades that let a tank go into siege mode to fire its one cannon. Can you put more cannons on the tank? Can you add machine guns to the tank? Can you add lasers to the tank? What sort of defenses can you give the tank? Can you change what the tank looks like? The type of upgrading/customization in Starcraft doesn't even come close to comparing what you can do to your ships in GC2. Considering that

The thing is, the original poster compared a 4x game to RTS games and an MMORPG. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I can go on and say how Starcraft has no diplomacy, it has weapon/ship customization, you cannot choose your alignment, you only have control over tactical battles and have no grand strategy options, you cannot colonize different planets.. The list goes on. They are two very different types of games with two very different types o

Maybe the AI is optimizing its sliders better and that is why its getting planetary invasion in 10 turns? Unless you are playing the game at the extreme difficulty levels then the AI does not cheat. It's really the main "selling point" of Galactic Civilizations II. Y'know, the non-cheating excellent AI. Just because you are incapable of keeping up with it, it does not mean it is cheating.

Give me an excellent single player game without multiplayer any day. I remember when I was so pscyhed over Civ IV coming out. I've been a huge fan of Civ and I love the "one more turn" feeling, but when I went to play it over a friends house I was so disappointed. It seemed to have really been marketed it all the "l33t k!dz" and really dumbed down and quickened up just so they can stroke their ego by thinking they are playing a real strate

Forget the modified scouts. Only get one of those and it should take no more than 2 turns. Build transports and head them off to different stars around you. Use the minimap and try to expand near any neighbors you have to try and grab any planets they have. MODIFY YOUR COLONY SHIPS WITH ENGINES! I cannot stress that one enough.

Escorting transports seem to be a waste for me. I usually have a strike force barrel in, clear a planet and my escort with 9+ moves just swoops in since it can be far behind my lines.
