Tactical ala Stars! is what I'd like to see (similar to what was suggested above by Doom Kracken). I understand all of Stardock's arguements, but choosing strategies of attack/defence would go a long way toward immersiveness AND avoid the pitfalls of a full tactical engine, which have been pretty boring in most other 4X games..

Not sure if this topic has been taken up in the empire forums, but I'm surprised there haven't been some reviews here in the general forums of Altarian Prophecy (aside from bug lists). Any first impressions, anyone? [Message Edited]

I run GalCiv on my laptop without a 3d card (video shares RAM memory). I wouldn't have even thought of asking this question until I saw in some other thread about the campaign editors, that it was mentioned that a 3d card was needed. But I can't find minimum spec information anywhere on the GalCiv site.

@Renegade, were you able to get the game to work with the patch? Your question is a difficult one to address simply. Going from memory, in the Empire screen set your military-economics policy to Holy War or slightly lower. This will push the Viceroys to free up much more money for ship production. But the effects are not immediately obvious. Some suggestions: 1. Don't design ships at the maximum of your capability (design them 2-3 levels below what you can). 2. Foc
With all due respect, that's not correct. Their intent was to put their own sense of cleverness on display, ... They failed miserably on both counts.

... has to be one of, if not THE, all time biggest design blunders ever undertaken in PC gaming.
I rarely give such categorical statements much consideration. The only thing I'll write with your level certainty, is that no one thinks the game is perfect and that many people love to play it.

I too question this winning by just pressing the turn button. That no longer exists with the patch. In my current game, on a large 3-arm, with 8 other species, and on easy, I'm playing the humans ... and I'm sandwiched between the Harvesters (with their 4000+ fleet) and the Tachidi, who I'm slowing defeating. What's slowed me down is that the Tachidi have a heavily defended home system which I haven't been able to crack yet (even after throwing waves and waves of armadas at it). I'll get thr

I wish that the developers of MOO3 were still in the picture, as they are here for GalCiv. But don't be misled by this; the fans for MOO3 have produced many fantastic mods that drastically alter the game, including UI and AI. For what it's worth (and I make no claim at being a good player), I've never beaten the AI after the patch, and this isn't even on the difficult levels. And the difficulty of getting into the game now is nothing like what I had to go through buying the game on release d

@Renegade I find your experience with MOO3 very odd. So, just to verify: 1. You have a purchased copy of MOO3? Not some hacked illegal download, right? There was an old version floating around out there. 2. You install it. You can verify your installation with this official tool: moo3.quicksilver.com/downloads/Moo3InstallCheck.zip 3. Then you download the moo3_v125.zip file (it's 5.1megs), uninstall it to the moo3 directory (just for extra certainty), and the

With all due respect, most of the posts in this thread about the history of MOO3 are inaccurate (why post if you don't know what you're talking about?). I'm also astonished at the difficulties some claim to have installing the game; In the year I've frequented the MOO3 forums, I haven't come across such problems in any new player (and frankly, the links do work and the patch is downloadable). As for the game, I'm surprised someone would actually want mere evolution when so-called revol
