I've now learned through experience that raw production (= population) is more important by a long way for output than number of manufacturing buildings. Thanks ManiiNames.

Many thanks, guys, especially ManiiNames, for your detailed response. I will take what you wrote into account. What I don't understand, though, based on what you said on population counts affecting manufacturing/construction, is that when I colonize planets with exactly the same number of people in the colony ships (=full), so starting with the same number of ppl on a new planet, construction times can vary so widly, even taking planet bonuses etc. into account. Surely it&
Hi Guys, I have just started a game (beginner, as that's the level I have any chance of winning on) as the Drengin. I have never played a malevolent race until now. I have some questions on the Drengin and some other general questions if anyone's feeling like helping out :) - I'm a malevolent race and should be hated by all who are not malevolent themselves, yet many civs even like me, despite being of a different ideology. Seems a bit strange? - Can the Dr
Hopefully SD will add an option in to keep the 2 new races but opt out of the mercs system.
Thanks guys, the zero maintenance is what explains it. I'd also like to see the minor races getting more attention. At the moment it seems strange, for example, that their survey vessels scour the galaxy but they as a race do not expand within it.
I've noticed this on a number of occasions. You load a saved game and the power ratings of all races are inflated compared to their ratings when you quit the saved game. That is, the numbers for all races have gone up. Not really a problem, but I thought I'd mention it anyway...
I've noticed that when your survey vessel goes into another race's territory you get a diplo penalty from it. It can even tip the balance and make a race dislike you. Anyone else think survey vessels shouldn't have a diplo penalty, only military ships in another race's territory?
...a minor race with only one planet can support 30 or more ships in orbit (yet I with many planets cannot afford so many despite a much larger income)?
I really hate the pompous Krynn. They quickly decline in attitude and DoW me.
Yes, they are initially all about peaceful promotion of their "spirtual" ways but they soon start hostile behaviours. They're so annoying.
Sorry if this has already been suggested, but I think adding a mini-map to the shipyard and planet management screens is an absolutely necessary addition. It gets annoying to be taken to one of these screens and not know whereabouts in your empire you are dealing with, so you have to switch out, find the planet/shipyard on the main map, then go back into the management screen again...
Hi, thanks for your thoughts.
For example, the Ai never sends more than 1 transport, and never loads more than 2.5 troops on it. If you build elerium shields and other planetary defense on your worlds, the Ai can never successfully invade you.
This almost sounds like an incredible exploit. What are the devs doing to remedy this and the other AI flaws you mention??
Hi Guys, Thanks for your thoughts. I always play on Huge or Gigantic galaxies, random constitution of galaxy, and with the full amount of AI opponents who come with the vanilla game (so 7 I believe?). Plus all the minor races. But now I just got the (overpriced) DLC with Arceans and Torians, so have more to play around with. I always do the same things no matter which race I play: universal translator, diplomacy bonuses, tourism, and make a rush for medium or large size hulls.
This is what I find myself doing for a good chunk of the game, just pressing the End Turn button rapidly in succession, while I wait for my colonies to build up and for me to research the tech for large-size hulls. Only much later can I start to build up a fleet and do anything really proactive. I find I always take the same research decisions no matter which race I play. I love this game and I've purchased nearly all the DLC but the lack of things to do in the early-mid g
What happened to fixing planetary invasion? I'm not playing the game because this component has not been improved...
Wow, planetary invasion is still awful... The planetary invasion system really should have received some form of overhaul by now. Poor show.
For me, the above is what's stopping me from playing the game or buying more DLC. I wonder when they will sort it?
I made this very request months ago - but no one listened :(
I'm going to buy this expansion with the hope that it will help fund the improvements to invasions , starbases fix, and even better AI. I'm hoping the political side of things will develop over time, too. Heroes I don't care about at all.
Will the 1.6 patch fix/expand on planetary invasions?
Sure these have been said before but I'd like to see: - filterable list of discovered but non-colonised planets (as in GCII) - on the colony management screen an indication of whether that colony already has a shipyard - this would save a lot of clicking back and forth Thanks!
Note the Drengin civ strength in the stats and graphs in the pics below. How can it do this and be so much stronger than all other civs? With almost exponential growth. I am playing on "Normal" for all AIs. Are the Drengin cheating in some way? Since the pics were taken they are now well over 600 civ strength, whereas all other civs are below 150. Thanks. <img src="http://picturehost.eu/uploads/ad32ea52aeaa71f32658654822cd22d2_AI%20exponential%20growth.png" alt
The 1.11 AI is beating my ass as it is :) But I hope for other kinds of AI improvements in the future, such as coordinated invasion campaigns and not doing 2-turn declare war and then sue for peace cycles...
Thanks a lot Franco for your thoughts, that's useful :)
Many thanks, Petri, Empress and Gauntlet. @Empress: so if that's what Guard does, how is it different from Sentry? I would have expected Sentry to do some kind of patrol movement, but the problem with that is, that the game does not ask you where/what area you would like to patrol... Thanks!
Can't see anything about these in the Manual, so thought I'd ask. It should be obvious what they do - Guard has a ship watch over a particular hex or area, and Sentry should patrol an area and attempt to intercept enemy ships passing close by. Yet I have yet to actually see them do anything. I only use them at present as commands in order not to be asked every darned turn whether I want to move my idle ships... Are they good for anything? Thanks a
