They ahve all been rejigged, and in certain circumstances any of them can be the 'best deal" for you - in my latest game I did buy from all of tehm at different tiems/situations.

great tip
SURRENDER - Surrender is a way to save the taxpayers, not the government - Surrender appears to be to the civilization most highly ranked in military other than the 'major' enemy killing the surrenderer; but sometimes seems more random. In particular, sometimes it is to someone at war with the surrenderer, sometimes to an ally; sometimes not. (And yes, sometimes they surrender to the Terrans.) - Relationships, alliances, and alignment do not seem to affect who surrenders to whom
Espionage Solely WRT your knowledge of their empire: The amount you need to have spent on espionage varies with the population (and I suspect the government type) of the AI player. Once you achieve a level of espionage, you only need to make additional spending to match/overcome their population growth: if you have their population declining (grin), you don;t need to spend more. There is a random event that destablizes relations, if you don't have sufficient espionage on t
EVENTS IN GAL CIV (A partial summary) Rebellion - A star system breaks off of an empire. Does not escalate, but eventually produces the I-League. Fundementalists - A group of systems break off from different empires, and form a new minor civ. The Fundimentalist's homeworld seems to be the first planet from the least evil race that was subject to defection by the event. Espionage fest - A minor race teams up with a major race to steal all techs. It can escalate to som
Dealing with the Aliens - NOtes: (edited to remove the word trade as much as possible in prefernce for the less confusing words swap, exchange and tribute) On Military: The readiness of the AI to declare war on you (or on other AI) relates to a couple fo things: - their perception of relative military might - relationship (relationship is improved by trade, and for goodies, being of similiar alignment, but these are not seperately copnsidered by teh AI when mak
(a) All - it is possible for the manual to be wrong, and for it to omit stuff. However, I wrote that sentance, and Brad okayed it, so... (b) Cari - can you confirm with the guys - my understanding is that there was a bug, and it is now fixed, but that there was also a deliberately introduced bonus. If that ain't so, then I need to start logging bug reports (because I sure see a bonus in my games). BTW, see if someone will provide the formula, would ya? It would be great to get the com
- Spread the tech around more earlier on (helps everyone) - Concentrate your trade on one major civ (helps that one AI - with more cash, they will imporve their culture - especially consider the Alterians) - Build influence starbases, and give them to the other civs. - Play against more intelligent AI - believe me, at maso the last thing I need to worry about is MY culture overwhelming THEIRS.
I've had a few wins and a few losses (grin) at Masochistic, on small, medium and large. (I got to play a lot on the weekend: wife was out of town, and the kids were cooperative for a change.) Stability problems have gone away (for me, anyway), and everything seems to work fine. BTW, a nice performance increase when trading ships with the AI snuck in sometime in the last few versions - now works very nicely. Only gripe: I am still seeing some really dumb ship tactic
Make sure in SDC that you have ticked the "Show pre-release versions" option on the menu.

Does other people's experience match mine? I think this has been toned down a little in 1.05.071 (although definitely still there.)
(Since you have to have arty grav for battleship, you are only one tech away from more range - controlled grav). In addition, you get a bonus to range of (I think) +1 for large and huge maps, and +2 on gigantic.
In one post you say:
I simply can't buy Galactic Civilizations.
Yet in a later post you say:
For 45$? I can buy it NEW from US for 35$!
If this is about getting it at all, talk directly with Stardock - you might have to wait until your credit card in honoured, but I am sure they will help ya out. If it is about getting a good price, I wish you luck. (But most of the people on this forum like playing the game: not real likely to
Hmmm. Maybe we will get an empire one day whose main purpose is mutual support - helping with strategies and understanding the game and stuff, with a little following of each other's progress. I had thought that was what you guys were working on here at the White Council - I was looking on avariciously. Oh well - perhaps the next formulation...
I play sometimes on my 266 laptop. I have deleted all the sound and video files, but with that proviso, it plays fines on medium and smaller maps. (Takes a while to open the game or load a save.) (It does have lots of RAM though.)
I agree WRT the limitations - this is a commonly-requested expansion pack feature - lets see what we get. In the meantime, I use alliances A LOT in 1.05.071 - here are some of the ways/reasons: (1) Using your example, I would ally with any and everyone who is NOT at war with the Arceans, so that when I go to war they do too. The whole reason: kill the Arcean trade routes, and don't let em have any trading partners. I usually can't get people to declare war on their trading par
Um, I think they are back, with a vengence. I have had more events with 1.05.071 in the last 2 days than in the previous 2 months. (literally)
On the options screen (where you save the game) you should see something like 1.05 in the top center. But the best place is via SDC, where it even shows the build number (ie. 1.05.071).
Of your items, I find 6 items desirable (I: 5, 6, & 10; II: 1 & 2; VI: 1). The remainding 14 of your "demands" I would see as a step backwards, making the game worse. Not easy for the developers to choose stuff that we will all like, is it?
i hadn't seen one in months, and now in 1.05.071 2 in one game (and some fleet rebels!)
Grrr. Well, unlike some of the examples people have given, the summary (#27 above) seems to be working for me. Just had my ally the Alterians surrender to the damn Arceans. Arceans are coming 5th - their only claim to fame is that they are NOT at war with the Alt's foe, the Torians. (I am in first, with the Tor's in second, and other anti-Torian forces in 3rd and 4th.) Perhaps the summary holds only at maso, and at lower intelligences, they make wierder decisions about who to
Arcturus - all my other civ-wide bonuses are counted in with the planet-specific ones in the Planet Details screen. (And I sure don't get a 50% local bonus.)
(All 1.05.071) Another interesting note: as you know a few versions ago the defensive orbit bonus became implemented as a bonues (about 30%?) to your ATT while you are in orbit. Interestingly, when you come out of orbit, your military might rating goes down (mine dropped from 132 to 112 within the turn!). I interpret this to mean that the effect of my vessels at intimidating the enemy has just dropped - so, if you are trying to keep out of war by bolstering your 'm
Hey - the Torians just built the Galactic Stock Exchange - I built it about 10 turns ago! (071, maso, med - i'll keep the save in case ya want it)
