I don't suppose anyone ever released a fan patch for MoO 2? I seem to remember that the game fell into the same category of MoM as having lots of cool stuff, but also no sense of balance or AI.
Your reading comprehension skills seem to be lacking, here let me help you with that. . . . . But hey, if you want to cherry pick points to feed your rage, I wouldn't let the reality of what was actually said get in your way.
Funny that you preface a post that completely misunderstands what I was saying with an insult to my reading comprehension

Would the AI really be fine if players didn't have the ability to farm monsters for loot? I was under the impression that the problems went quite a bit deeper then a simple gameplay mechanic that it was not able to take advantage of.
FadedC... It has been said that Elementals Quest feature has not been fully realized yet. There is much more potential than what has been realized at this point. I trust the same is also true for Roleplaying and Spellcasting. The game was crafted with these elements in mind. From the get-go, It has been known that the game would not reach full potential at launch. Look for more depth in these areas once

Well I don't think it really matters who does something first or whether a particular game feature is deeper or less deep then a completely different game. But since you brought it up.... Quests have been in Warlords, Age of Wonders 2 and HoMM off the top of my head. They generally had way more variety then fedex quests. It's been awhile, but didnt' AoW have gods that offered you quests, which not only had rewards but also effected your reputation with the various gods? I thought that

My other mild complaint about the game is that you don't really the feel like your running a fantasy equipment store, more of a grocery store that for some reason carries weapons and armor. Very few adventurers actually come into your shop and when they do they are just as likely to buy something that doesn't help them adventure or something they can't actually equip. Meanwhile random townsfolk are your biggest buyers of weapons and armor. At the same time I really like the idea of buying ite

Having finished the main game, it seems like there are a lot of elements which seemed cool but I never had a chance to do anything with. I never went past the first dungeon after the hall of trials, never used a hero besides the first one, never got any light or dark items, and never really remotely resolved anything storywise other then paying my bill. I guess I could go back and do more dungeons and heroes in sand box mode, but it just doesn't seem so exciting with no story behind it or rea

It's actually kind of annoying if you lose due to debt and loop back to day 2. You lose your money but you keep your shop inventory which can easily be worth a small fortune by day 2 standards. Given that your money tends to grow exponentially and it's only the debt payments that keep it under control, suddenly starting from day 2 with a small fortune makes the rest of the game pretty trivial. I ended up just restarting from scratch.

If you want to make any real progress in the dungeons you generally have to not only equip your hero but bring along some food/restoration items to heal him. Eventually the hero will probably buy some of the stuff your equipping him with himself which saves item space (and gives you money of course) but until then your not going to survive much past the first dungeon with his basic kit.

There's an interesting new podcast that talks about the AI and describes some of the unique civilzation bonuses, the transcript and video for it can be found at http://www.civilization5.com/#/community/podcast_transcript_8 The civilization bonuses seem pretty interesting and more relevent, with things like the Aztecs getting bonus culture everytime they defeat a unit and germans being able to recruit barb
You obvioulsy didn't play many games of MOM then because some games the AI was ruthless and it depended a lot on their intial placements just like any random map game does for the ai. I played 100's of games of MOM and had fun in the majority of them because of the relentless ai. Not balanced you say? That's one of the reasons MOM is still great today. I'm pretty tired of reading about balance in a PC game playi

It always makes me kind of sad when I see that in a game, it's kind of like a monument to how completely rushed to production a game is when they don't even take the time to include all the features in their own manual. Obviously some of these may be implemented later, and some may be just discarded as not fitting with however the game turns out to be. But it does make it difficult to wrap my mind around how they could think the game was ready for primetime when it didn't even fit their

Hmm....well I hated spore, but I did think the earliest stages where you were an animal or microscopic organism and evolved new parts were fun. Maybe if they manage to bring some of that back it might be cool. Obviously I'll be waiting on reviews though.
Actually, your Warhammer comparison is apt...both the Warhammer table top game and the Blood Bowl table top game are by Games Workshop, and they share a lot of races, gear, etc.
I believe bloodbowl is set in the same world as Warhammer too, although a slightly more humorous version of it. It has the same gods and magic schools and things like that.
AFAIK the tech tree functions basically the same way (though with the usual rearranging). What's changed in research is that there's no research slider. Gold and beakers are now two seperate things, you don't turn one into the other.
That's interesting, I wonder what types of things generate research then.
Actually, I would consider that to be pretty balanced. If the differences aren't very blatant, but still noticeable and change the feel of the gameplay - then I would say mission accomplished. Every race/faction/nation is viable, can win the game, and are worthwhile to play, but they all have different strengths/weaknesses and will require different adaptations to keep them strong.
Quoting Vladesch, reply 30 People worry too much about balance. Look at fall from heaven. Very little balance there, but its heaps of fun anyway. Games with pvp and ladders need balance (ie sc2), not (primarily) single player tbs. Not at the cost of fun anyway. IMO, balance can add to the fun. That's why some worry about it.
That is not precisely what I said. The amount of real damage that would cause a given building to need to be repaired or rebuilt to be useable again is related to the type of warfare conducted. I'm sorry, but if you send an army of archers (say 100 men or perhaps more) into a city to conquer it, and you succeed, what damage was done to the buildings besides arrow strikes? There will be holes in some buildings, windows broken o
Damage considerations to a city that has been conquered should depend on what type of warfare was conducted. For example, if I conquered a city fortified with some archers by sending in some warriors armed with clubs or swords, what type of real damage would be done to the city itself? Very little or, more likely, none.
I think history would disagree with your statement that an army of people with swords
I believe it only comes with a PDF manual anyway. The box is likely to only have a leaflet with credits and technical instructions. (I pre-ordered the special edition box, which comes with a 170+ pages artbook, two soundtrack CDs, a DVD, and some figurines, but it's 70 Euro, and if it wasn't for my Civ collection, I'd certainly not shell out that much.) So yeah I personally love having the whole floating install thing so much that it beats out any other negatives. There have been plenty of times when I've wanted to play a game again years later and either had to rebuy it again or just give up because the CD was either lost or damaged. I'd prefer that they be on Impluse but I'll take Steam as a secondary alternative. If every game I bought was setup like that I'd have saved at least $200.
