As an EU (1 and 2) fan, I'll add my support for the Bad Boy implementation!
YIN-
Did you register INSIDE the Metaverse page by clicking on the 'Register your Player' link? This is completely separate from registering with the forum.
Star Pilot and Popup Target: Yes, my post was tongue-in-cheek to say that an easy game on a big map like that probably got huge points...and it did! Mind you, I think Metaverse is a neat idea, it just needs some work if it's to be taken seriously. ;)
I should just say that my problem is now fixed after realizing that the "Register Your Player" link isn't just for the head of an Empire setting up players (this is how I first saw the message). In fact, that link is to register YOURSELF with Metaverse! Again, why one has to register separately with Metaverse was even more counter-intutive. Anyway, this is just an FYI that others might have this same problem.
Same here. Hmm. Hope all is well.
"Did you register your player with the Metaverse? It's a seperate step from registering the game and/or the forum. Go to the main metaverse page... near the top is a link that says "Register your player..." Give it a name and your CD key and try submitting your score again." Ah, crap!!! That's all I was missing this whole time??? 'Register your player' is just about the most counter-intuitive way to phrase this ... and it's tucked at the top! This shouldn't be 'your player'; i
Wow! BRAVO!
No, *I'm* the greatest player! And I defy that pesky Metaverse to try to show up on my computer to prove it! My guess is my scores are so high that it breaks a few laws of mathematics or something.
Oh, adding to that... Could I perhaps more simply (or in addition to having an 'All' category) be able to Control+click the items I'd like switched? This is really what I was trying to do the other night. I wanted to Control-click items A and B to switch them to produce item C.
Ah, forgot one: Currently, you can do a global switch of Planets making A to now make B. However, I often want *ALL* planets to switch to making, for instance, Battlehammers. Could you please add a "All Planets Switch Production to X"?
Metaverse score: 6,000. LOL
Starhawks don't have a maintenance cost, right? Can be a good way to amass tons of ships to at least scare the AI when looking at the military graph... Yes, Stellar Cartography comes to mind. To be honest, toward the end game, I stop paying attention to what the particular tech does and look for trading opportunities (yes, this is my impatience).
Sweet! Ensemble is truly one of the greatest shows running, Mike. AoK took up sooo many hours. Wonderful experience with it. But don't hire away Brad! He's doing great things as an Indie!!! :D
From what I've seen, Brad looks at the various loopholes and killer strats human players are using and then goes back and reworks the AI. So it's not the AI that's learning. It's Brad! ... who then goes back and revamps the game, God bless him!
Cool. I hope the video driver was the problem!
Have you updated your video drivers?
Shall I add in here? "Me either!" [I do have to say, though, that this is not a big issue for me, but it clearly is for some others...]
Yes, starting positions are hugely important, but I actually really love that you simply don't know what you're going to get. In my last game, I could only colonize *1* planet besides Earth. So I had to do some thinking: How do I possibly win this? The Alterians (sp?) had no fewer than 6 planets, 2 of which at 25+! So, I made my neighbors (the Yor) my absolute best friends. To make sure, I even made all the evil choices, which is something I wouldn't normally do. And since I knew
Problem is Brad programmed the darned thing so well that the turns resolve too quickly...unless you are stuck watching 81 precursors move, in which case I click on another part of the map and it resolves right away. But perhaps I will use those moments for sleep instead!
If you cater to idiots, they will be your only customers...
#1: "Buy in lump sums ... sell in leases that run 50-100 turns." Buying in lump sums forces you to manage your cash flow better. Selling in long leases helps to ensure that you'll have a reliable cash stream throughout the game (and also helps keep you from getting too much cash on hand to blow through too early). Exceptions abound, of course: What if you absolutely must by those techs or ships just to keep pace or stay alive? Sure, in cases like that, buy on a lease plan ...
Ah, metaverse. Yes, since that doesn't upload for me, I ignore it. It is true, though, that smaller maps get far, far fewer points. My only question there is: What's more important? Metaverse score or an enjoyable gaming session? In Nirvana's case, he gave up submitting the score because the end game was too tedius for him.
My answer to this issue is to play on small maps (tiny is a bit too small). I think the problem on larger maps isn't so much the actions themselves but the length of time it takes to execute them because you've got to send units across significant distances. On a Small map, I find *everything* runs at a faster pace, including the endgame, simply because you are so much closer to all the action. Sometimes this means its easier to attack, other times it means its easier *to be* attacked
You guys running any extra mods?
Hmm, interesting. Yes, I've seen them do some of their own research, but never have I gone to them with a handful of techs that they wounldn't buy otherwise. Brad: Are minor civs there to help the humans on trading techs? Or does the AI not trade with them on purpose for strategic reasons?
