I find it a bit amusing that you consider magic to be balanced (or fun) in AoW3. I don''t think there's anything in AoW3 that's even close to balanced (or fun).
From my point of view magic in AoW3 is at least as fun as in FE. And much more balanced. So if it is no close to fun and balance, then what a poor position in FE it has :)

Such as...?
There is no need to go deep here - AoW. All of them. And dominions. And HoMM series (ok, they are not fully 4X, but we don't really have much of these to make strong claims). Actually, does game need to be 4X to satis

Anyway, there is something in this game which makes me return back time to time. It even becomes a little bit better every time, but only a little bit. If you read around, you'll find that one "resource" is working on the game in any given moment. So we can't expect any major breakthrough here. May be in FE 2.0 or further...

Returning to summons ). For some reason their levelling do not provide descent bonuses. If you sommon lvl 3 monster and level it up to 7, you will get much weaker creature then if you summon it lvl.7 in the first place. On experience levelling they don't get damage and defence, while they do get it when spawned with high level. That is odd to me. And with trained units this is ok, because they get a lot more HP per level and you can upgrade their defence and weaponry. &nbs

It depends not only on the unit, but on the enemy units, too. survival bonus from dodge would be: 10 / (enemy accuracy - your unit dodge(wihout bonus)) survival bonus from defence would be: 4 / (enemy damage + your unid defence + 4) So at the start of the game defence is probably much better. At the end dodge will be probably better, unless AI has developed enourmous accuracy via technology.

In my experience, the hardest thing about Yithril is their armor. If you beat that - you win. So, what can you do? 1. Staff troops. 2. Ordinary troops with fire/cold damage trinkets. It is quite costly in terms of crystals, though. 3. High essence fortress with heart of fire will probably solve all the problems. 4. Experienced mage. It can be ordinary damage dealer (you allways

Imagine you have the city with temple of forgetting. That gives the city -100% research, which basically results in no research in this city. But if you start to produce research, it gives you 50% resarch, so in total you have 100% (basic) - 100% (temple) + 50%(produce research) = 50% research, which is a kind of weird for me. But let's go deeper .[e digicons][/e] Cast spell "set in stone" on the city. Now you have 100% (basic) - 100% (temple) - 1
