So while I wait for the game to be patched up, I'm wondering if anyone's read the companion book Elemental: Destiny's Embers? Is it an interesting story worth picking up?
yeah, I have MoM Unfortunately I have played it WAY too much. If only it was heavily modded
Delmoroth, what do you mean heavily modded. I play MoM on Dosbox, which works great on Windows Vista. But I just play it straight with 1.31 update. What other mods are there? I know there's a ITEMMAKE, but I could never get it to work right, and I remember once I corrupted the game if I had too many
With the recent development about SD layoff its 2nd game team, I think the stakes are now a lot higher for THIS game. It's no longer the gamers pinning their 4x Fantasy game hopes on this game, but it's also now fair to say that reputation and future game business of Stardock is riding on this as well.
Great point about the shards providing mana. It's almost like capturing a resource point in an RTS game like Supreme Commander, and there's a reason this makes the game more fun. This should make the game much more dynamic, it'll provide interesting border skirmishes as you and your AI neighbors fight over resources.
I for one would love some eyebrow raising! I think everyone was impressed by GalCiv2 so there's no reason that Stardock can't do the same with the Elemental 1.x. Part of the charm with Master of Magic is the control of "magic nodes" that add to mana income which player had option to raise casting ability, or research speed. I see the ownership of shards would do something equally pivotal...since the backdrop of the game seems to revolve these magical shards.
Just curious if the patches can revamp the Magic/Spell system, or would the patches only do minor changes, such as on game balancing, interface enhancements or bug fixes? I'm still on the fence with this game. Like everyone says, the game has a lot of potential, and I am still debating about buying it to try it (but the stories of refund hassling sure makes me think twice). My main concern is with the game's magic system. Honestly I was looking for MoM2, but I'd be equally satisfied i
Just curious, is the layoff precipitated from the new sales forecast on Elements (due to bad reviews?), or is it from the promise that SD will only work on Elements for a year, which means that there's no other game revenue stream for at least a year? I was going to say that if the sales numbers are holding, then you might want to shift some development people around to get Elemental wrapped up earlier, and then devote resources to the next game. The faster you can close the book on E
Still does not work! What's up with this...they can't even fix a forum error?
let's see if mine shows

Thanks for the info. I think the confusing part of the message is the mixing of patch and free content together, and then putting on a 1yr time limit, so people do not know what the time limit applies to. It's much more clear if worded this way: Game update will be free to registered owners for as long as the patches are released by Stardock Free content will be made available for a period of 1 year in the form of extended campaign, or add-in heroes, spells, etc.
So what would be considered free content if that excludes patches and expansion packs? any examples?
Just to be more clear then, if patches come out after a year's time has expired, is that still free? Also, is expansion pack considered "free content", or is expansion pack considered something more than free content?
Hmm...just like now the real world works. [e digicons]O:)[/e]
Probably give them some immunity, or inherent way to fight against magic (ie. not be impacted as much). They're heroes after all. Otherwise, they're just regular units with a name.
Let me join this "MoM" loving fest again. I still am on the fence about buying the EWOM because of the info like this. It makes me glad that I'm not the only one who enjoyed Master of Magic, but also followed EWOM because once upon a time it was said it'll be MoM. And even when the licensing deal did not happen, I had high hopes that the fun game features in MoM would be reflected in the mechanics of EWOM. Would i like to have Master of Magic 2? Absolutely. But I would just as muc
With what SD did with GalCiv2, and the mods, I truly hope MoM type of magic fun can be added here. Otherwise it's just a combat type 4x game without the true influence of magic. I'm not saying Master of Magic was perfect, but it has a lot of concept that truly works as key ingredient of a 4x game with magic components. There's no reason to avoid them because no fan of 4x games would accuse SD of being derivative of a classic.
I say fire up the MoM and enjoy it. I really wish someone would do a graphical upgrade on it, because the game mechanics are very good already.Speaking of that, I think I'll start a new game on Impossible difficulty while using Death Magic. It's tough but it's always enjoyable. As for HoMM, I just didn't like the rather artificial way of completing the scenarios, like you have to navigate through chokepoints. HoMM just feels so "designed" so it's not as good. &n
Thanks for all the information. I definitely would wish that MoM had some Civ aspects...but it was a fun game in a way that it didn't bog down on a ton of city building details. The magic and combat system really made the MoM shine, especially the variety of magic and specialization that it offered. I first heard of Elemental is when it broke the news that Stardock tried to acquire license to Master of Magic. Why else would Stardock try to get the classic name if they didn't do someth
Based on my name, you can see I'm a big Master of Magic (MoM) fan. I've waited 16 years for a game to replicate the experience that the MoM provided back then. Though there were other excellent fantasy TBS games since then, even today I run back to the DOS emulator to fire up the old MoM once in a while just to enjoy the fun of imbuing a double axe with flaming, haste, and +6 attack, and then let it rip in the hand of Gunther the Barbarian. There's just something special in that game. Too bad
