Ah, Civ IV, we shall not see your like again.. That said, I agree with Kongdej and MiamiBigAl, Fallen Enchantress doesn't allow trained units to shine against monsters, or even against AI troops at higher difficulties (hard to counteract x3 HP on the enemy) My solution would be more traits, including some that would be absolutely overpowered if they were available without research. There could be traits that simply negate 'overpower' for example, or that have

Hey, I think I have a very reasonable chance of winning in my AAR here . Magnar was also extremely powerful in my game, but I eliminated him right as he started churning out units armed with Boreal Blades and wearing Champion plate.

The best way is to have traits that are only available under a certain size. For example: Camouflage - only available for size Skirmisher - only available for size Slayer - only available for size Dragon/Giant/Elemental slayer - only available for size

Address to the Confederacy (Summer of 172) Citizens of the Confederacy! I know that most of you are celebrating the end of the Magnar campaign, and wish for a long period of peace. I know that some argue that we have dealt with the immediate threats, and that our neighbors have learned to respect us. I know that many think that

I agree with Kongdej. I also would like to see the kids inherit their parents' abilities, and take at least 48 turns (12 years) to start adventuring. To make up for the maturing period, the kids should be pretty damn tough. A powerful father and mother should be able to teach their kid a solid subset of their abilities.

KingJerkera, until they fix the warhorse bug, you can go shopping for horses in another faction's lands. You won't get a warhorse that way, but at least your champions will avoid footsores.

I do not play on easy, so I'm only guessing... Doesn't Kraxis get a lot of gold in the beginning? If he uses that to rush buildings and troops he can get seriously ahead. As for the Altar player, what happened most likely is that they had the Treasury Vault and the Merchantcross Bazaar. And if the difficulty was one of the harder ones, their cash reserves would start high and grow exponentially. Of course, on harder difficulties, seeing the AI with 1 000 total po

To Frogboy: It's possible, though unlikely. Yithril & Magnar were definitely Insane, because they had the x5 hp and x4 population/research/production. You can see that on some of the screenshots (Verga invades the homelands, New Conclave is a hamlet) As for the rest, with Resoln's capital at 509 population on turn ~50, I do not think they are at default either. In any case, I cannot check until the end of the weekend, but I will post a screengrab of t

2nd build queue does too many negative things to the whole "opportunity cost" aspect of 4x games. From a realism perspective I have no problem with it, and from a gameplay perspective, it works quite well (for example, in Shogun II). I think the way it's right now is fine, though. However, if there was some manner of slider to split total city production between the two, that would be an acceptable compromise. I do not see the poi

Out of character comments. Boris has become more or less unstoppable. Of course, there is only one of him, so it's very important to get to Air IV so that he can cloud walk. The magelords have grabbed enough land and resources to be competitive, but the high unrest in their captured cities is making exploiting any resources very, very slow. On the other hand, razing the cities is a recipe for disaster. Without a good power ranking, it is very likely that

Actually, the champion was not alone, there were two pioneers and two scouts to begin with, but of course, they did not last as long as the champion. This fight happened before turn 50, and the AI had not started churning out troops in earnest. Cornering the crow demon may have been possible, but it would not have been trivial, even for a human. The demon has Titan's breath and Thunder strike. And of course, you are right, the champion could have destroyed the crow dem

The Thunderstrikes do not take mana, and Initiative 27 is not found on champions all that often. Furthermore, unless you are talking about multi-player, the AI is not in a rush to counter anything. As a matter of fact, AI in .915 tends to put too much armor on heroes without giving them mounts.

And that 1,2,3,4 switch between different, pre-set camera positions, which can be very useful if you move the camera, but then everything looks unfamiliar, and you want to go back to the default setting.

I keep hearing how binding is an underpowered race ability, and how it's meaningless in mid/late game... Well, one can argue that Air shard elementals make perfect scouts with their high move. Some may tell you that Earth shard elementals' armor and regeneration can allow a champion to breeze through the first few levels. Others will point out that Death shard elementals can get a lot of hit points and act as meat shields until the end. But you kn

In the game, the festival building is described as follows: Festival Costs: -20 influence Provides: +2 growth when city is idle Which makes the building practically useless. But, actually, the festival provides +3 growth in idle cities, and +1 growth otherwise, which makes it a rather useful addition to any city. I believe the description should be: Festival Costs: -20 influence

Address to the Confederacy (Fall of 170) Fellow Citizens! The Confederacy is in dire peril! The Empire of Magnar refuses to allow us out of our peninsula, spreads all over the known lands, and grows in power faster than all Kingdoms combined. The militaristic Quendar have been equipping their champions for war, and raising troops our scholars

I do not have strong opinions on this yet as I simply have not played enough games, but I get the feeling that the current effective strategies [at high level, e.g. expert, ridiculous and beyond] are geared more towards peaceful rather than aggressive expansion. Not true for Insane. On Insane, the AI gets x4 population growth, x4 research, and x4 production. They also start with 150000 Gildar, and by turn 40 I have seen 1600+ power and 3700+ Gildar incomes f

The Magnar are the exception, but their power rating is not a bug. They have 6+ heroes running around with champion plate and Boreal blades, and multiple cities - they started in the middle, and relatively far away from everybody. I'm about to attack them, because they are blocking my side's expansion. But the other AIs are no slouches. Gildar's capital income is 3000+ Gildars per season, and everyone's research is over 150 when mine is 30ish.</

Don't see what would be so hard about putting out a crack/Offline/Nonsteam file or something for the games IF steam went down for some reason. And how will you make sure that only legitimate users get access? Did you read what I wrote? Furthermore, if they go broke, their creditors do not have to keep any of their promises. Those have as much value as the ones by companies who swear that they will NEVER sell your information. THEY may not. If

Valve has already said in the past that IF steam goes down foe what ever reason, THEY WILL make all the games still available to the customers. So no worries on that front. I love Steam, but that's bullshit. They can do that for their own games, but not for the games from other developers. If they go down, they would not be able to maintain servers. Without maintaining servers, it would be impossible to make sure that only former steam cust

I'm very happy to hear this! I had also resigned myself to 1-tile cities, and am happy to hear that cities will grow and have their own personality in Beta 4.
