I don't really want another thing to keep track of when ships (with engines and guns) can do the same job so much better with Sentry or Guard enabled. You want big sensor range, get Eyes of the Universe. Now you have long range sensor ships that can respond to enemies. If you really don't want to bother going up the (short) sensor tree, then stack a bunch of sensors on a cargo hull. Your economy should be good enough to handle it by then if you are considering

I understand, but I find it a little weird. I only want a way to disable it, not remove it. I don't really think it adds personality though, since they are all mostly the same taunt.

One of the things that really annoyed me in Galciv II was the messages you received from the AI when they were researching a tech. If you plan on including them in Galciv3 could you please leave an option to disable them? "Now you know why good is dumb! We are researching "

I don't know about you, but I have the map mostly explored before I hit the second sensor tech. I use sensors to watch over my territory and keep a constant eye on opponents. I also see no reason for influence to magically grant awareness. edit: Especially considering I can stack enough influence on one planet to cover 1/4 of a gigantic sized map with influence.
