Unranked game option would solve all of these problems and be trivial to implement.

@abuggerbhedige Quote brad Wardell We’ve learned that you can’t treat networking as just another thing to plug in like you would a sound library or even a 3D engine. It’s a whole different animal. With Elemental (our next game), it’s single-player focused but its MP will be server based (and I mean we literally host the game). After Demigod, I don’t ever want to hear the words “socket” or “port” again.
Sounds like the OP needs to start a non-profit games publisher to fund his dream model of gaming development. How would you fund these games? Freeware is created for marketing purposes or through private funds/personal development time due to a love of gaming. Neither source will pay the costs of a big-budget title. "In Frogboy's own words, SD makes games for profits and not to be declared cool." Frogboy also thinks devleopers who complain about piracy are whiners, he's been starting to come around IMHO. He realizes that treating your customers like numbers and abusable serfs is not sound business strategy. Frogboy admitted to the bad design decisions and lack of testing demigod here. @takashi_k Maybe you're just a whiner? Kicking is nothing personal, man up and grow a pair. People just want to even out the teams most of the time.
You forget most people don't read game names at all and will just keep joining, sorry but your suggestion is full of fail.
@deathadder builds in demigod aren't hard by a longshot they are just memorizing what to buy, and choosing between a couple favor items thats it. The real issue with newb games is that lack of teamwork and paying attention with portal scrolls to help team mates. Demigod is a team game, and it really sucks when your team mate just goes off by himself to creep or sits at flags when your partner is in danger. I wouldn't mind such games if there was unranked option
@shade it's not most games played, if you look at the chart it's the # of wins each demigod has. It clearly shows in a statistical way that some characters win by a large % much more then others (i.e. they are predominately better then others).
Quoting niz032, reply 9 IMHO I think dev's need to go back to their roots and just accept gamers who don't pay and that they should be honored and take pride in the fact that people enjoy and play their product, instead of playing a mean corporate (expletive). I'm sure that "pride" will mean a lot to them as they're evicted from thier homes because they can't afford their rent
But where do you want to draw the line? Having to use a valid key for online multiplayer is the best copy protection solution,
My point is that it ISN'T a copyprotection solution it is an ILLUSION that it "protects" the game. It's just something to make game companies feel like they are "doing something". I bet you if demigod had no online copyprotection the sales would only be marginally different (less then
"@niz032: Your proposals will not have any effect on the sales of Demigod." But the point is to build the community up so that users have a better experience, i.e. there is nothing gained for stardock and GPG by artificially limiting the communities size, we're talking about why only "23% of purchasers" played online, well then, if you want to see more people online if thats one of your goals to build an online community, then they should be going in the opposite direction. Demi
^Except you couldn't point out where I was wrong specifically, so you don't have any point at all and are just full of hot air. Demigod uses the same base netcode as supcom does, it's the exact same engine. Demigod was built from the supcom engine This is why you can "Strategic zoom" in Demigod just like in Supreme commander 1 and upcoming 2.
I'd like to be able to have the option of kicking new players and informing them via messag why they were kicked, so they don't think I'm just some big rude meanie. I was reading a thread by another user about the kicking going on of new / laggy users, and I also think the term "you were kicked, or kick" was poorly chosen. Changing it to "Close slot" would be a lot better so the player would see 'this slot was closed' instead of "you were kicked!" You were kicked implies i
I've noticed an incredible amount of rudeness when it comes to new players. Every time I try to connect to a game, after a few moments in the lobby the host will make some comment like "noob, lol" or "no noobs, sorry" and then kick me. How is a new player supposed to improve without anyone to play against? Is the community and fanbase of this game really that dense and mean-spirited? I understand concepts like mic
I read this from stardocks released PDF. "For Stardock, the more significant shock of Demigod has been the discovery of the low number of PC gamers who play strategy games online. Demigod’s single player experience, while decent, did not get anywhere near the care that the Internet multiplayer experience did. Despite this, only 23% of people who have purchased Demigod have ever even attempted to logon to play Internet multiplayer." <
Now, the debate over the importance of the multiplayer community to games in general and strategy games in particular has always gone back and forth. It’s certainly true that the most actual outspoken strategy gamers – both critics and general fans – are devotees of the multiplayer experience, up to the point of totally dismissing any form of single player campaign. They’ll perhaps forgive Skirmish mode, but the vast majorit
"Naturally, they immediately begin to blame their strategic shortcomings on lag. Who hasn't heard that one before? " Severe lag will definitely mess up the game, so much so I try to kick laggy people out of my games. Don't downplay the issue please, half of peoples losses are easily from team mates dropping mid game. And lag certainly does effect the timing of your abilities. I've had games where my general wouldn't move or cast shield because of lag, it's the jerky

@colonol_jesss GPGnet is horrible, GPG has the WORST internet out of any game. Demigod is based on the supcom engine thats why it's networking is so damn bad. And Demigod was totally a fanboy game, some times I wonder if gamedev's have any brains at all. If they wanted Demigod to do better they needed to make ita full blown RTS. GPG wanted in on the DOTA action and copied it. Now there's heroes of newerth which > demigod. Also Quak

I've seen QoT used good with certain team members with bramble with certain combinations of team members she isn't bad its what combination of DG's make up the team. But how bout we just post the chart? Oak + erb at the top of the list :P
