They said midday morning for beta testers. Assuming morning is 9 AM in the US(eastern), for those in europe that will be around 15:00(CET). Given that there will be delays and that the download will take a little while, my guesstimate is that i'll be playing the game around 17:30+

You could always take the talent that your sovereign provides one knowledge point. Tech progression will be sloooooow but its viable. If your quest go well you would also get some Gildar which means you can recruit NPCs and some of the NPCs also provide knowledge.

Read the steps from the original post and you'll see step#4 requires logging into impulse which means using WAN. And while Stardock might cover its ears yelling, "LA LA LA LA LA"... it doesn't change the pure facts that LAN which "requires" WAN is
I do agree that Frog's posts in this thread arent exactly paragons of clarity, and that he uses the word LAN in a way that most gamers don't. But it isnt so cryptic as to deduce that the singleplayer game is played online, like a browser game.
@ Tridus: How are you expecting to host something without the server software? Yes when playing multiplayer, which is what he was referring to, then yes the server does run the AI, as it does in every other multiplayer game that use a client/server architecture for multiplayer.
Its not bullshit its stating the obvious. The multiplayer game is run on the server, everything is calculated on the server and then sent out to the clients. When playing singleplayer you dont have a server do you? Everything is calculated on the players computer.
What did Star Dock mean with finished? What do you mean by finished? I think everyone has a different opinion of this. For some it will be a game with LAN support from day 1 for others it wont. I'm inclined to say that a multiplayer game without LAN support is unfinished, not that i care that much about LAN support, but I wouldnt hold Star Dock to their gamers bill of rights to, as i see it is a goal that they will try to uphold, they will of course fail but isnt what matters that the
Did i say it won't?
However it requires IMPULSE login which requires Internet.... any LAN which "requires" WAN is not LAN.
How do you know this? Where does it say that you need to log in to impulse when using the server software that will be available later?
What Frog is saying is that IF these two things are true 1. you want to play multiplayer on the servers that Stardock set up(you use impulse to access them) 2. the other players are connecting to the internet(server running the game) through the same LAN THEN the easiest way to play multiplayer is to follow the instructions given in Frog's original post. You can't play over LAN right now. The only servers that exist are StarDocks own.
