I've found a way to reproducibly crash the game. Put all your units on auto-explore. Hit next turn. Eventually one or two of them will no longer auto-explore and you will be unable to click next turn - doing so does nothing. If you then move the no longer exploring units, the turn will advance. Keep clicking next turn, the game will eventually crash - I've gotten it do do so on every game I've tried this. There is no error message (e.g. OOM / Dx call),

I find the game quite a bit of fun now. Worth the buying price, just for the hours of entertainment it's given me. It's not as challenging or balanced as it could be, and still needs polish, but we're getting to it.
As large as possible + Difficult World Setting Large maps with lots of monster activity to fight through to place cities would make the game more fun for me. I enjoy that part of the game - I always play Civ with raging barbarians, and I like to get as much a feel of having to fight for my ground as I can. OOM errors suck, but it's worth the hassle at the moment. Only thing larger maps need (other than fixing the out of memory problem) is some kind
Sethai, that is the best thought out write-up I've seen on ideas on improving the tactical combat - the thought of playing combat as you describe it would be awesome. If Stardock can take a look at those suggestions, and see where/when implementation of mechanics such as these can be made, it would make for a much more engaging experience. Maybe this is more expansion material, it seems like a fair bit of work and testing to implement well - but putting some of those sugge
In my current Large Map / Epic game, I currently have 18 heroes named "Viy", one Janusk, and one other Janusk-variant. A bit much perhaps? This alone may just be a design oversight rather than a bug, so here's where the bug comes in: All of these units share the same nameplate, even if their unit name is changed. If I change the nameplate on one of them, it changes for all of them. There is no easy way to distinguish these variant heroes.
Just got my first OOM crash since the new patch. 6 hours of playing before a single crash (and on a large map) is a huge improvement in stability. I recommend anyone who hasn't done so to go patch the game, *much* more stable. As before, OOM crash happened on saving. EDIT: I still get the Dx9 invalid call crash on alt-tabbing, but it's an infrequent crash. @Agrippa Re: Mods - Oh, I plan to check them out. Want to get the hang of the base game first.
Indeed, eh? Buggy ass game, but it's giving me more fun than my other games - at least for now. The newest (today) beta release seems to have fixed my constant oom crashes. Just played around 2 hours without a crash. Nice work Stardock! Still a lot of refinement to go on the game, but it's getting there - it's a far cry from when I last played (September).
I've called in sick to play the game! Despite crashes every 30 minutes with the beta (ooh, impulse tells me there's a new one out, maybe a fix?) - the game is worth playing to me now. Glad I came back to try it again.
I frequently get this bug as well in 1.19a - also on alt-tabbing. -Win 7 64, 4G Ram, Nvidia 8800GTX
Cast Arcane Weapon on a stack of units. You get the dialog screen for every unit until the last (which is the way it should work), however, that last Arcane Weapon spell goes on the highest unit in the stack instead. I can put a seemingly unlimited amount of spells on a unit in this case.
I was about to report this one as well. Other bugs: -Out of memory on a
I've noticed the out of memory error (for me) only occurs on turns where the game autosaves - sometimes it even happens when I save the game myself. While there may be other versions of this error, at least *one* version of it occurs on saving the game. Workaround for me is to turn off auto-saves and never save - I've yet to get an OOM error when I do. However, I don't like to play without saves, so I'm dealing with the OOM issue rather than having a stable game with
I've just re-started playing Elemental after giving it a few months to mature. Despite some bugs (Out of Memory especially), it is getting fun to play. One small thing I've noticed that I feel should be changed is Cloaks. You can buy a variety of cloaks for your heroes and sovereign at the item shop. However, several of them (+1 movement and +1 movement / +1 visibility I've noticed so far) can only be bought and equipped for males, not f

Same problem here. Thought I'd give elemental another try, and did a clean install. I get the same error message as the OP on launching the game: "Failed to download data file. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet, have signed into Impulse, and that no firewall or anti-virus program is blocking elemental." No anti-virus is running, impulse is up and running. I've tried multiple times, with the s
I admit I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this has been discussed: I really like the idea of implemeting the Global Mana Pool (GMP). It allows for a lot of options, tactical and strategic choices. The Role of Essence: Suggstions / Comments #1: A caster's essence controls the amount of mana that caster can channel. This opens the option
I've found a workaround for my bug. When I go to the game options, if I check then uncheck the "Cloth map only" toggle, the game runs normally again. It seems to me that on resuming from the options menu, the game forgets to go back to the cloth map and has to be reminded for it to work again.
This is a repeatable bug, happens EVERY single time I go to the options menu and go back to the game. The regular map (not the cloth map is there), but all units, cities, etc. are gone and the game slows to an absolute crawl just moving the map around. I normally play with cloth map enabled, b/c it's easier to track units. When returning from the options menu, however, the cloth map is no longer enabled or visible. The same problem happens
