If the vigilant army attacks first, everything dies before they can even go.
Yeah, that's absolutely not true. Even a simple 9 man zealot team with clubs (which you should be able to build by time you research Vigilant Minion) has 90 hp and 18 attack at a cost of 36 gold. Ten hp off of that is nothing, and you are very very unlikely to have more than a couple of Vigilant Mi

Have your champions/children keep empowering others just as long as their own mana remains at 5, so they can resummon this all-powerful unit when needed and spirit-walk wherever
It's a fun issue. If it took 200 turns for your kids to reach maturity, the system would be largely a waste of time.
I have never had a child grow up quicker than that, though I suspect it has to do with my gamespeed of Epic.
One piece of advice, save all those books that enhance attack for your dragon. A book that's worth 1 attack for a a champion will do something like double the dragon's attack value. This is especially sick with the +8 to attack book, which will put the dragon at attack: massive.
I would be happy if hitpoints were increased by something like a factor of 5. I realize that it would prolong battles, but the problem right now is that most units act like glass cannons and there's never protracted battles with proper troop lines or flanking.
Still wouldn't matter unless the AI stack attacked on the strategic map, thus gaining the first tactical turn. The minion army can almost always wipe the board on it's first turn.
I had three VM do just that with the ultimate quest's finale.
I would love to know how the stats of your children is actually calculated, seeing how I ended up with 3 children below ten strength when both parents had strength above 40.
Units heal the quickest if they stand in your towns. There's also heal spells if you research spellbooks and research high spell levels, though I have never tried them.
MOM and AOW both had a magic resistance stat. Seems hard to understand how Elemental devs decided it was not needed.
Because Elemental uses the defense stat for magic resistance. If you want a spell that pierces through defense, there's already true damage. Spells that don't deal damage hit automatically.

Notables and quest locations obviously don't work by that same standard, though I would question if only new quest/notable locations of level X (X being the newly achieved level) can appear, or if it is a range--such as level 1 to 2 for mapping, instead of just 2--can appear in some weighted fashion. One thing is for sure, there is still a fair bit of mystery and a lot
The game's channels much more of the Civilization games than Master of Magic - that'll probably remain true even after a couple of expansions. Atm the game's focus is on city building, research, and army-building. Elements like heroes and magical gear are underutilized, there are no powerful magical items and even the strongest hero is at best as good as a three man squad with equal gear - but he's probably quite a bit weaker. Some things are very similar, trade especially. Ci
^ This. I have actually stopped taking the Organized trait because it's really Over-Powered. Why is the +1 movement trait 15 pick points, but Organized, which is EONS more powerful (especially if you're Men and drop the 10 gold in the beginning to get Travelling Boots on T2) costs only 10?
I have stopped using it too and to be honest, I don't miss it. It doesn't make your armies bigger, it doesn't help when you are picking up goo
I had this problem too but it went away when I restarted the game. Did you try that? Might not be reproducible if that solves the problem.
Except in combat, strength modifies weapon damage to arrive at attack value. So you still need weapons, and decent weapons are really expensive if you're expanding. And every heroes ability to deal is limited by the fact that if they fight, they lose HP and have to retreat. Not until you get medic packs can you really send champions out into the world to adventure and not have to baby sit/return them home at the first sign of real trouble
Some of the adventurer champions are quite strong with stats in the 15-19ies at level 1 and fair gear like leather armor and same-tier weapons. If you can recruit one of these champions in the first 40 turns you can easily take out most other sovereigns. Even if you don't go on a conquering spree the champion should pay itself by killing monsters and in the long-term it should be your largest income source.
