A monster editor would seem to be an easy, simple addition to the game. I can't imagine that many assets would be required to create such a thing, and in a game as mod-friendly as Elemental, it would be a rather ingenious addition. Also, a monster editor could combine very well with the tile editor as components to a larger Quest Editor, if they ever make such a thing (fingers crossed). I like the idea a lot! Good thinking, Edwin99!

I do love the idea of a race builder. Personally, I'd like to put in some races like Avians and Draconians. However, I wonder if a race builder is actually a feasible concept. My guess is that we have to lean on the modders for more races. As for assigning a custom leader to a custom faction, that can actually already be done. All you have to do is create a faction, then locate the faction's file on your computer. Open it up, and then add (or replace. I forget if there's a

I too hope for a revitalized Tile Editor. Tile building was loads of fun; it was almost like its own game. And all of my tiles used pedestrians. They really helped liven up a scene. [tangent] Of course, the big problem with the T.E. was that it didn't tie in to the rest of the game (short of XML modding). Tiles were cool, but there was nothing you could do with them, in-game, after they were created (again, short of XML). I hope that, in Fallen Enchantress, we get t

Great idea. I always thought it weird that the player could see whatever he wanted of the enemy's territory. Limiting that somewhat would make for a more natural and interesting experience. I really like Edwin99's idea too. It would make leveling up cities all the more interesting and important, and if you tie it in with the Diplomacy tree, it would strengthen a currently weak tech tree branch. Also, I'd suggest the exact opposite of Edwin's idea
My suggestion: go magical
I concur with this idea as well. How about "Magic Seep," "Cursed Drain," or "Fatigue of the Attuned?" Of course, if you don't want the magic connotation, "Fatigue," "Fervor Drain" or "Apathy" would work, too.

Wow, awesome update. This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear from FE. Heroes now sound like they infuse the world with flavor, and have been massively upgraded from mere army units. Judging from the fact that "Champions" is one of the victory paths for the game, heroes' importance have gone way, way up. Very excited to see this new game mechanic in action. Two quick questions. One, I really appreciate the fact that the hero pool is now split between kingdoms and emp

Good post, Heavenfall! You made me stop and think about where I stood on the issue, which I always appreciate. "As iron sharpens iron," you know. Still, I'm not entirely sure I agree with all of your points. If you don't mind, I'd like to provide a defense of the heroes-only quest idea.
First, what's stopping a unit of 4 men entering a ruin, where 8 champions can enter without a problem? Fear? Magic? Or are they simply us

I'm really enjoying the changes made so far. The early game is spiced up a bit more than before with the new quests available. I'm going to quickly point out, though, that there are some cloth map/3d map issues with these new quests. Starting up a new game, my sovereign ran into the quest where the rider lost his horse, which is your's for the taking. The horse's location appeared in the cloth map, but not in the 3d map. Later, I received a random quest in which I was told abo

I strongly concur with this idea. One of the great selling points of Elemental is the RPG aspect of it all, and being able to build my own RPG party based on a dynamic world affected by my strategic decisions is really awesome. But the whole allure to RPG heroes is somewhat lost when they merely function as another army unit in your empire. The quests are designed to invoke RPG overtones, but when quests are completed by smashing through them with an army the same way you would smash through

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we learned some new information on the Fallen Enchantress' identity. We now know she's the leader of a faction in the game. Presuming that we're only dealing with the factions already seen in E:WoM, it looks to me like the Fallen Enchantress might be a redesigned Ceresa, sovereign of Resoln. That's where my money's at, anyway. I must say, I'm really fascinated by one part of this interview. "Lots of other games have that

Very interesting! We've heard a lot about the world of Fallen Enchantress before, but I think this is the most in-depth we've gotten into the mechanics behind the aesthetics. I'm loving the depth and individuality that each area is demonstrating, especially the fact that not every wildland is cleared via "fight to the center - kill the boss." Awesome. I am left with a couple of questions, though. When wildlands are "conquered/cleared," does that just mean neutralized, or a

Really great ideas, ArcElement2002! Champions with enchanted swords is always fun, but this idea would really help improve the enjoyability of running your cities and other, more mundane activities. But personally, I don't think we should limit it to just the sovereign. I would propose that any city being governed by a hero is eligible for uncovering "civic quests" (though the best quests go only to the sovereign). In fact, I see your idea as a great way to level up those heroes who don&#

Well done, DalamarNZ! I've got to applaud you first of all for reviving the Elemental Fiction board. We really need more storytellers, and so your thread here is quite the welcome addition. But beside that, the story was great on its own merits. I do love the fact that most all of your characters had personality. It's far too easy to treat your heroes as simply game pieces, and you did an admirable job avoiding that. I also must add that I was impressed with the humor you were able to

I'm not a developer, but I have read some of what the developers have said. To the best of my knowledge... Question 1: What are the biomes in FE and how are they different from WOM? This post by Mr. Frogboy himself confirms that the land of Elemental is still divided between "good," fallen, and barren. However, it also seems to indicate that fallen land wi

Welcome to the Create-a-Hero Symposium! This thread is dedicated to talking about one of the neatest features of Elemental:WoM - the Sovereign Creator. The Sovereign Creator is a really important part of Elemental: WoM, at least to me. It allows you to build a personal hero that you can connect with far better than the default heroes. There's nothing like conquering a fantasy world with your own fantasy-world alter-ego. However, neat as the Sovereign Creator is, there is certainly room fo

Brilliant idea, Sarudak. This idea is the kind of thing Elemental needs: RPG-esque personalization that colors the world and brings it to life. Adding traits to cities would really transform them from mere resource factories into something far closer to real cities with their own individual cultures. I thoroughly support this well thought-out proposition.

Great interview, Joe! Thanks for staying up so long to moderate the interview. And thanks to Derek as well for taking the time to hold the interview. It was a great conversation that expanded on our knowledge of the mechanics and the underlying design concepts behind FE. I look forward to more great interviews with Stardock in the future. This is a very, very good news. I'm a huge believer in strengthening the RPG side of Elemental. Truth be told, the mix of RPG and TBS is what inclined me to purchase Elemental in the first place. Unfortunately, I felt the RPG elements in WoM lacking and imagined that a great, bounteous deal more could be done in the RPG field, particularly in finding innovative ways to merge RPG with TBS. It's awesome to see that you've got the same vision in mind, Derek, and my anticipation for Fallen Enchan

Iron Kaiser here, back with another idea for implementing quests. (If I'm not careful, I'll wind up becoming known as "that quest guy.") In one of my previous posts, " Improving Quests ," I put forward the idea that quests ought to become a stronger part of the main game. I threw some ideas out at that time (Espionage, Bounties, Sabotage), but integrating quests is definitely easier said than done. Even thinking
