If anything is going to kill PC gaming, it's STEAM and their ilk; every piece of shit greedy corporate stooge that doesn't trust or appreciate their customers. I'm still not worried though, I think that once we hear the death rattle of the huge gaming conglomerates as their DRM chokes them to death for not being logged into the system, then we will have a new group of publishers who are more sane, and the indie game companies will take their

It seems to happen when the player moves his unit on to the same space that the creature is moving to. Ships passing in the night, I guess. Like tour86rocker suggested there seems to be a second issue that I've seen a couple times where a unit is at the limit of my vision. It is unselectable, as if it has already moved away into the fog of war. I'm not convinced these are the exact same issues... I've only noticed the second when a figure is far off and the firs

To reiterate some points above with my own spin added :) Forts are a problem in games like Civ because they do not provide a Zone of Control plus they need to be manually garrisoned. The result is that you are essentially immobilizing a group to provide a defensive bonus that won't generally see use since the enemy can just go around - true chokepoints on the maps are exceedingly rare. To be a useful component of gamplay Forts either need to provide an automatic garrison and/o

As far as "competition" between these games goes, there is a large number of people who will buy Civ 5 who never heard of Elemental. Civilization is in its own class when it comes to brand awareness. I'm not saying that it's great for Stardock that Civ has such comparatively wide awareness but a Civ 5 purchase does not really equate to a lost sale of Elemental. Of the people interested in Elemental who are also Civ fans I suspect a fair number of people will end up getting both Civ and Elemen
Give each elemental spellbook a basic spell that allows players to enchant a single crystal and turn it into that cooresponding element. So if you start with a Fire elemental spellbook, you come with a spell to change a crystal into a fire crystal. But you can only cast it on one crystal at a time. Using it on a new crystal changes the prior crystal back to its original element. The spell should be releatively cheap, say it costs 1 essence to cast. But that is still significant, since

I haven't received any, even with the proper research advancement.
The quests work but the files aren't being put in the correct place, at least for some of us with 64 bit OSes. See if they exist in ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\Temp\English. They need to be copied to the folder that Peace Phoenix mentioned. In addition I copied them t

I ran into some of these problems in the game I played last night. I crushed the AI handily to the point where just the enemy sovereign was running around the board trying to get away. The result, though, was that my debt skrocketed presumably because I had all these cities, none of which had enough income generators to offset their existence at that point... one of which was about 3 spaces away from my own (the AI and I settled on the same turn). I had no option to raze or combine the two ci

I think the proper type of flavor text and descriptors would make this seem a lot less artificial. Unlocking "techs" on the Adventuring path could be presented as various tales of knowledge and valor, such as the scholar that successfully translated an ancient scroll or the one about the hapless band that discovered which end of the dragon shoots the fire.

I have to disagree with the statement some people have made that consoles are free from bugs, compatibility issues, etc. and these issues seem to be getting more common as the technology gets more complex. From what I can tell consoles are getting more and more complicated. Gone are the days when you could just put a cartridge in and play. Now there are multiple product SKUs, patches to games, hard drive installs, firmware updates, lockout bugs like the recent leap year issue with the PS3, an

Hi Climber, I agree with most of your comments... For #1 balancing would be tough but that is true of anything in a game like this. But that's why we're participating in this beta! I think your original suggestion comes pretty close to #2 with the addition of the random conversion. I think the "shard rush" as you are pointing out would still occur since the player would still be converting shards to their own color, and if you add the possibility of gett

This way, you don't need to make a new card every time you "upgrade" your Sovereign, and you can have the card that you think looks the most cool. In addition, actual equipment purchased should cost Sovereign Points. Later in the game, when you get better equipment, you can s

In the age of digital distribution the best type of documentation is contextual tooltips and in-game encyclopedias (think the CIV 4 Civopedia for example) since many people aren't getting paper manuals. This also allows updates as things change. The problem is this takes a fair chunk of resources to write up and proof. That said I preordered the limited edition because I'm a total nerd that loves 200 page manuals. [e digicons]^_^[/e]

I see several different ways this could be changed, some of which were already brought up. 1. Allow a means of changing a shard from one type to another at a cost. 2. Allow a player that captures a shard to set its type upon capturing (sort of like imbuing the sovereign's own essense into the shard. 3. Keep the shard type static but allow a shard to be used as another type for some additional cost. 4. Shards are static, but upon map generation randomize the sha
