I'm not familiar with examples, and in fact know nothing about graphics, but I have to say that I really like 1 and 3, and filter 2 gives me a migraine.
You're fired.... for bad taste.
Lol. You know, every time I play FfH, it makes me want to play Elemental. But when I play Elemental, all I want to play is FfH. I could elaborate on what this means, but I won't. I do think that it's promising for Elemental, though.
I'm going to tell your boss!
Nooo!!!!!!
I have it on good authority that Brad is putting this in just because you don't like it.
Hm, well different strokes, I suppose. The one thing I DO wish was in EWoM is a shared building/training queue. I always liked the tradeoff that went along with that.
To be fair, city building in AoW is just as brain-dead as can be. That's one thing that EWoM does better, at least.
1 Movement: units MOVE in that game! they don't just go by 2 or three squares.
Try the Teleport spell. I think you'll like it.
Thanks for doing this. This post and the others like it you've made have been helpful references when I have time to write spell code.
@Agrippa & Murteas: Well, it's up to you all what (if anything) you want to include. Right now the status of the mod is that it's just for personal use, since I don't really care for the 4-school system that Elemental has now. So, all the xml is working (but would need the new AI tags added), but most of the new spells in the new schools may or may not not fit with what you all are trying to do here. When I start playing the game again, I'll probably
[e digicons][/e] Looks good guys. If you want to use any of the code or particle effects from my defunct mod, feel more than free. It's not posted anymore, but that's easily fixed.
I think my problem right now is that there is no military strategy involved. Maneuvering your troops is not of importance, neither in TC or on the world map. You don't need to defend choke points or outflank stuff, you just need to research, design and build. That combined with an utterly boring looking world makes the game uninteresting to play at the moment. As for the OP's question, I think FE will be fun. If there's any
The system I would most like to see is the inclusion of two asian computer science majors for every registered serial number pre-FE. That way, I won't have to learn (yet) another coding language.
I do like the first idea here. One of the benefits of having a percentage decay, is that with a given mana income, your pool with soft cap at some number. With a 5% decay rate (for example, the numbers don't really mean anything outside the context of spell costs), and 10 income, your mana pool will level off at 200, when decay = income. One of the nice things about this system is that it fixes the problem of having a long period of peacetime, where you can accumulate enough mana
I'm not sure how popular our concept of an RPG would be. We're talking pretty old school stuff. No first person. Just old third person, party (Baldur's Gate / older Ultima). Very niche.
Just please, please, get your writer on this project. I don't have to tell you that good RPGs are about story, and I think that this aspect will have to be a level above previous SD releases for me to even contemplate buying this game.
You all see that video on the Jerusalem Lights posted on CNN yesterday? Yeah, it's conceivable that it was a fake, but hey, you never know, right? Not to get back on topic or anything.
How terribly disappointing. Stardock is beginning to look like the crash and burn game studio of the decade. I've been patiently awaiting a "finished" product to show up after an expansion or two, but now, instead of making incremental inmprovements to a mediocre game, we now have a very good chance at receiving three, separate, mediocre games. Where is the logic in this? The world of Elemental isn't even very exciting.
Anyway the cartoony graphics aren't the problem...
It's a matter of opinion, of course. Regardless, it's certainly not up for change now. Hopefully, with a new designer (Kael) and a writer (some other guy), the game will pick up some ambience and tension in the future.
it should feel like I'm in the Bronx wearing gang colors and no pants.
Agreed. I don't really have high hopes that this game is ever going to be scary, cartoonish as the art is, but it could certainly use some help. I think that some better ambient sound and some music would enhance this, as would the mechanic changes that you suggested. I know that I've modded healing to be a high-level, costly spell for my own personal use. Again, about the game art. It's not
I must say compared to Civ 5 this games mods are very slow coming - I guess the tools are not up to the job yet. I have not seen one accessable mod yet.
Yeah, the problem is that there's just not enough modding functionality available for the big mods yet. As this comes along, so will the mods (assuming the modders don't get bored with the game and move on). Having said that, there are some good weapon, faction, and spell
I just came across this today, myself. A couple questions... (it's a big DL, else I'd just give it a try). Is it as stable as FFH2? What's the turn delay like relative to vanilla? How do you like the new improvement system? I'm a little wary of this, but trying to keep an open mind. Is the AI really noticably better? Is it compatible with Ozzy's Erebus map? Appreciate it (in advance)!
Hmm... it's just a hunch, but I may have a solution. Try creating a mod file and pull the internal names of all the housing structures in. Inside, define the custom tile to be used. Why do I think that this might work? When trying to mod the shards, I found that the game would load both the modded tile design and the core tile design and then select at random which one to use when placing them. In a lot of ways, shards are treated differently than other things in the game, but
Oh, I wasn't really commenting on where the title should come from. If they want to link it to the books, that's fine with me. I just think they should have come up with a better name for the book. [e digicons]:D[/e] (Note- this and the previous post were mostly in jest. Mostly.) Edit: it would be like naming Moby Dick "Caucasian Whaler" or... naming The Odyssey "Greek Sailor."
Also, guys, I'm really not crazy about the name "Fallen Enchantress." Can we do something about that? [e digicons]:D[/e]
I like this. I think that the best games have had a strong vision behind them. So now that we've seen the icing... any chance we can get a few of the ingredients? [e digicons]:D[/e]
Advice to Pantasd: Play some Fall from Heaven 2 while waiting. He's a great game designer, at least. [e digicons][/e]
