ok if you only have sins and the date of the 'sins of a solar empire.exe" is the 21st of feb 2009 then you have ver 1.14, if the date is 3rd feb 2009 then you have entrenchment beta 2.5, if the date is 11th december 2008 then you have sins 1.12 if the date is 17th may 2008 then you have sins 1.05 if you install from a DVD and do not put any patch/bonus packs then you have 1.0 and does NOT support any mods harpo

to get to 1.05 you need to install sins from a dvd then download and install the Sins_Bonuspack_105_setup.exe which is the 1.05 update that can be found on the web harpo

I am thinking of codeing a quick & dirty vb program that will bruteforce convert all earlier maps to 1.14 & entrenchment beta 3.0. if other mappers are interested I could make it available for general use ie the program will search all directories for .galaxy files then read each one in, check if it need converting, if it does then add the new items into the file and write the results out if it does not then go to the next file in the list, NEW instructio

the map format has changed AND the devs did note bump the map version number so WE COP THIS PROBLEM. the only solution at present is to wait for the next version of galaxy forge then re-make the maps. harpo

sins only uses up to 2gb ram, I had the same problem, it is caused by custom maps in BOTH GALAXY FOLDERS ie the C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy and the C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy folders remove all maps in the doc & sett and all maps dated earlier than the 20th of feb 2009, also any mods that have maps in them harpo

you have 1.14 or entrenchment beta 3 the maps are causing the lockup the devs should have bumped the map version number to 3 as well harpo edit just remove the maps you put in the galaxy folder
