I've not encountered this. In fact, starting a game last night, trying to find a spot for my first city was challenging (in a good way) because resources were so sparse. This was on normal world difficulty.
Mtn_Man
Most addictive game I've played in years. I've been late to work twice this week because of Elemental.
Buy through Impulse. Stardock will get more of your money instead of the middlemen taking their cut.
I think it would be cool if champions would get experience by finishing quests too.
Huh, I just assumed they did. This definitely needs to be added. I also think gaining experience from successful diplomatic transactions would be a nice addition as well, but it would obviously need to be balanced so you can't just rack up a bunch of soft-ball diplomatic gestures for easy experience.
Only time I've seen a crash is when I was playing with the cloth map and forgot to turn on the frame rate limiter.
" Sometimes clicking to move a unit makes it move somewhere else. The unit moves into a different tile than I had selected (or at least thought I selected). Happens quite often to me. I am using the right click button on the mouse to move." Make sure you don't have auto-explore enabled.
Did you ever stop to think that you're not the only one with a computer running the game? Because honestly, you really come off as though you think that because you're happy with it, and it doesn't crash too much for you, that everyone else should have the same experience.
Look at the support forum. Nobody is complaining that the game is outright unplayable.
Dude, they already made your mom... if you know what I mean...
I think what bothers me the most is that the harsher critics of Elemental are basically lying about the state of the game at the moment. I'd say that any outstanding issues as of the 1.05 patch are minor at worst, yet you have people out there saying that the game is practically unplayable.
I agree with you in the sense that I'd like to see something like diplomacy be just as devastating as conquest in the hands of the right player, but as long as conquest remains a viable path to victory then you can expect the AI to use it, and you'll just have to develop a strategy for defending against it. It's no more complicated than that.
I want other ways than having to rely on multiple lousy units to prevent the AI from attacking me or to protect my empire.
Like what exactly? What specifically are you looking for?
Mtn_Man, I think the problem is not just with my strategy, but with ignoring players with playstyles such as mine. What you think is a logical thinking of an everyday warmonger, which grabs things by force when he can and only talks when he can't. But that way of thinking and playing shouldn't be the only one, in my opinion.
It's not the only way of playing. As I said, you can field a strong standing army and then pursue dipl
The problem is the AI, which becomes more and more combative and war-mongering and the options for peaceful resolutions are diminishing more and more as the game is updated just to please the hardcore fans (such as you, I guess).
Part of diplomacy having the strength behind you to compel others to consider your demands. If you're just peacefully building up your kingdom and don't have much of a military then why would a much s

I'm sure in hindsight Stardock wishes they had held off on the early release and waited until the Day 0 patch was ready. I think a statement like, "Sorry, guys, I know Best Buy has released the game early, but we want to make sure you get the best game possible on your first day playing it, so we're going to stick to our originally planned release date when we'll have the first patch ready. I hope you understand" would have satisfied most of us us. As they say, hindsight i
Is there any chance I can get a refund for this game? It's incredibly bad and I think it's insulting how it was rushed out the door the way it was. I hope the sites in question have the integrity to update their articles with this response from Brad.

I dont see how the review industry could give empire such a high all score!
A lot of reviewers receive pre-release copies of games with the understanding -- or even an explicit agreement if the publisher is influential enough -- that they won't report on things like bugs and crashes, the premise being that things like that will be fixed
