True, turrets don't move. But even if they did I somehow doubt the antanae on the front of the Kol would rotate. I think they are just emitters, more like a Nod Obelisk of Light than actual long laser cannons.

Capital Ships do. They can level up and learn new abilities. If you have ever payed WC3 it's a little like their heroes. Only with lasers.

I thought the fact that Assailants are better vs capital ships stems from their shield penetrating researchable missile technology, not any innate hidden modifier. Which if so would fall more under the category of thinking about tactical uses for upgrades (a good thing) more than simply knowing obscure facts. Maybe you are right though, and it is a hidden modifier, in which case yuck :(

Many of the ideas you bring up seem to be implemented in some form, but not via cost-per-jump. The Vasari can build structures which let them gate between any two nodes (skipping intermediary paths). I think they also have tech which increases their transit speed and a ship which slows incoming enemies in transit. TEC have a building which keeps enemy ships from jumping deeper into your territory and I think a tech which reduced the prejump wait time. And I am sure the Advent will have

I am relatively new to modding, only ever having altered abilities, stats, and a few level builders before, but Sins has sparked some ideas in me and I have a few questions about how far the system can be modded before I get ahead of myself. - Must planets be in the middle of the Gravity wells? Can we, for example, anchor them to be at the very top or bottom point of the well? - Must gravity wells be spherical in shape? Can modding change them to cubes or cylinders? -

I can just imagine striped culture lines indicating allied cultural pushes. And all their broadcasts could begin with "Now in Glorious Technicolor". Hmm, I wonder, could a new upgrade (call it "Allied Relay" or something) be included to allow friendly culture to pass by to the next lane without affecting your planet? Not sure how this would interact if both people were pushing culture, but it would let one guy culture creep past his ally's uncultured grav wells. It would allow

"u have now also the possibility to change the amount of resource gathering and the speed of research" This makes me sad actually :( It is bad enough having to adapt to playing at fastest speed settings (as that is all most multiplayers will ever use), but I can see these also being maxxed becoming the standard for online games.

Hmm, maybe I wasn't being clear, I didn't mean pulls up a new menu, I meant in the permanently displayed hotkey window box thing in the lower right. Dunno the technical terms. Like when a cap ship levels up and you have to click the star button and then select a skill to upgrade. But swap the star with a skull and crossbones and swap the skills to upgrade with the 4 buy/sell options. That make sense? Edit - I can see why I was confusing before, I didn't mean like the planetary

The buy/sell being displayed right on the "nothing selected" bar sounds good, but I have the feeling it might not quite be idiot proof enough. A slight variant, to have a "Black Market" button (in the "A" or "Q" hotkey spots) which then gave the 4 buy/sell options, might be a little safer. It would just be one more click down, no different than clicking down a level for any other tech (like how "Develop Planet" -> Civilian Infrastructure, Emergency Facilities, etc). A

Seems like it might be to prevent weirdness should the game have not been locked teams and the alliance breaks later. Then again, allowing it to avance all the way to an ally's planet (but not affect it so long as the alliance holds) could be interesting too. The thought of several of your fringe planets suddenly flipping if you break alliances with an ally could be a powerful incentive not to :) And it could bring up some real life diplomacy. A: "Hey man, I'd appreciate it if you didn

Hmm, well I doubt if binary star systems are in the game right now (I have not heard anything about them), but perhaps some of the wormholes are interstellar. But that could be more of a "back flood gate" than a backdoor.

Not having played the game I am just guessing, but perhaps a small popup infotab which gave the current exchange rate when the metal/crystal counters are mousedover in combination with hotkeys would suffice. Not always onscreen, but wouldn't interfere with current ship selection and could be checked with just a wave of the mouse. Of course there do seem to be a number of buildings with no discernable buttons that have a lot of free menu space, like Trade Ports, where 4 buy/sell/buy/sell

If we get moons then perhaps we will get lunar doomsday devices :) And like everything else I can just picture the TEC version being financially based, holding a nearby planet hostage for... 1 million credits, muah-ha-ha Seriously though, theirs probably would be money oriented. Use the moon's gravity to affect local planet spin, increasing daylight hours and forcing the population to work 30 hour days or something. Good for the taxes.

Heh, maybe give the dead players a single pirate cap ship to cruise around with, would cause only minor trouble and mostly be forced to support CPU pirate raids to survive. But even then I wonder if it is worth the effort to implement. More plausible though is my wish that so long as anyone on your team still had a planet you were allowed to keep playing (with your remaining ships only). It would let you control the now irreplaceable remnants of your forces in joint attacks still.

Could this be what was described in the "Advanced Start" thread? https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=173897 Q: How hard is it to create a map with each player all ready having huge fleets to fight with? A: Some of the maps already start like that. I dunno, maybe some maps have a sort of "start players from scratch but let the cpu start with a bunch of middle ground" type setting. But the fact that some of those guys in the middle have multicolored lo

This is very good news. The Dominion War seems a smart emphasis, it really did have the best space battles of the bunch. I am more of a Star Wars fan at heart, but after trying hard to like a few too many subpar SW movies and games I find myself appreciating the more consistent style of ST more than I used to. PS - I know that the idea of "culture spread" as it exists in Sins wouldn't really fit in a ST game, but considering the timeline you pick I think it could be adapted to

Maybe some of the loss of a sense of scale is an unintentional side effect of the faster speed settings people kept asking for. The faster the cap ships move the smaller they seem (thus making the even faster cruisers and even even faster frigates feel downright tiny). When I look at that tiny gamma battle movie the Kol looks like it is moving way faster than I would normally expect from a capital ship. But maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me. Hard to tell with some of these sce
