My old Dimension 800 still runs, although it did become a Linux box. My XPS from 2003 also still runs with Linux on it. My last machine was assembled locally because at the time it was cheaper and I was able to get closer to my ideal spec but right now the difference between a locally bought machine and a comparable dell is negligible. So if I bought a machine today I'd go with a Dell but that might change again if the price of components here in Canada drops or Dell no longer offers the comp

If I was going to buy a new computer today, it would be a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with a core i5-760, 8 gig ram and Ati Radeon HD 5770. I don't see the point of getting something fancier than that.
Shipped August 30th Reached boarder on 15th of September Arrived today in Montreal 21st of September. Additional charges GST: 3.58$ PST: 5.63$ Handling Fee: 5$ Total Additional Fees: 14.21$ Definately, not worth paying extra just for the soundtrack. Next time would it be possible to get the soundtrack as a digital download and avoid this whole hassle.
For those that got their LE box can you tell us when it was shipped from the states so we can estimate how long it will take to arrive?
The last time I ordered a game (Spaceward Ho! IV) from the states it took a month for USPS to deliver it. I complained and they sent a second copy by priority courier which arrived in a week. This was years ago but iirc part of the problem was that Canada Customs wanted to charge tax and brokerage fees on it. So it is quite possible that all the Boxed copies of Elemental are stuck at customs. Every so often I get things shipped over from the states using USPS. The only time I
I have not gotten mine either.
I don't think there is a simple X factor. For maximum sprawl you want to be atleast 7 or 8 tiles away but then there are gaps in your influence where mobs can spawn and attack your caravans. For maximum security of Caravans you want to be as close together as possible, 4 or 5 tiles away. However, cities do not provide much of a bonus unless there are resource tiles near where you settle. So in Elemental it makes more sense to settle near key resources first the
My sovereign runs around with 4 or 5 champions. I tend to have 2 equipped with Long Bows and 1 or 2 tanks. I try to level up champions to level 5 before leaving them in a town.
Here are some tweaks I'm thinking of implementing to my copy of Elemental. Sovereign Creation 1. Reduce cost of increasing Wisdom and Constitution by 1. Reason, when you level up you can get 2 points in other stats or 3 points of essence or HP. So at creation spending 3 points for 1 point of Wisdom or Constitution is not as good a deal as spending 3 points for the other stats. 2. Reduce the cost of most
I changed my imbue champion spells to require only 1 point of essence but also cost mana. 3 points for Kingdom and 4 points for Empire. I felt that un-modded, in the early game Imbueing champions resulted in the sovereign ending up with no essence. However, late game this might not make sense since you can end up with 40+ essence once you have a lot of essence boosting structures. If I could i'd change it to require max(10% essence, 1) for Kingdom and max(12% essence , 1.2) for empire but suc
In reply to Frogboy's post. I was a bit surprised that the game when from beta 4 to gold to release in less than a month with most of the campaign and AI work not finished until the last two weeks. I think there should have been a beta 5 which would have been a playable beta i.e a we think this is the finished product that should go gold. While I didn't get as hooked on EWoM as compared to GalCiv2 I still find myself playing it every night despite its flaws. I haven't mastered the nua
Yes there is a technology that gives you the ability to raze a city. Not sure what it is called but I think you can then raze a city anytime you want.
Your staff wielders are 3 base attack x 8 units. Your Swordsmen are 6 base attack x 4 units. Combat rolls seem to be are base attack vs base defense then multiplied by number of units. So if the defender rolls a 3 4 or 5 your staff wielder automatically misses. I think the same applies to spells which is why a spell can say 90 max damage due to a ton of shards and still miss most of the time.
The cloth map takes up a lot less resources. I can actually play two different games at the same time if I use the cloth map. The only problems with the cloth map is that I have trouble determining where hills start and I like how it looks in the graphic version.
In my experience, the Canadian distribution system has always been atleast 2 weeks behind unless it is a simultatneous World wide or north American release. This is why I aways get a digital download now if I absolutely need to have the game on launch day.
- There is a bug in the construction screen. If you don't exit the screen you can sometimes build multiples of the same building. - You have to go to your sovereign's equipment window and equip it. - You naturally heal over time very slowly. It is faster in cities and some high level spells will heal. You can also buy food or potions to heal you and the medicine pack heals you one point per turn.
- I found a potion of +0.5 essence once. - From the map, click on your character then there should be an equipment button on the right panel next to the character image that always works. The equip button in the character image doesn't seem to always work so I stopped using that. - There might be lore reasons for the lack of undead. Undead require magic to animate and magic was mostly removed from the world and imbued into the shards.
You may have to turn in the stones at a different location.
