Wow, what wonderful surprise to read about, and see the team! [e digicons][/e] This taskmaster - er- customer is pleased to meet y'all! [e digicons]:D[/e] [e digicons] -Y.

1.) For starters I love the initial greetings - some are funny and some are great snark! Really sets the mood in relations, lol. More seriously, I always wheel and deal tech for tech+money+influence and even treaties. (Love the diverse treaties and wish there were more options in GC.) I work to gain an advantage in diplomacy skill to master this, and I always keep in touch with minor races for special deals that could tip the balance in my favour. To that end I t
Thanks androshalf, that answers a few questions about set-up. I really hope people add their own questions (and that the devs will read this thread in reply on the next stream.)
Star names are an issue to me too. Even in GalCiv2 there were strange things going on... So I did some digging about star names, and decided for my modding purposes I will insert as many real universe names (Bayer nomenclature method) as possible and also create variants that fit the suspension of disbelief. To summarize, I take names of constellations and prefix them with a greek letter, so Thuban is also officially known as Alpha Draconis -- the brightest star in the const
Thanks guys, a later dev stream finally showed the top of the viewable screen. (Damn I need a new machine - I want to buy the beta play with! lol)
Hello, like many fans I have questions for the next dev stream - btw I'm enjoying the dev streams very much! :) (Please Note: My questions come from the POV of one who cannot play the beta game since I cannot afford to upgrade my PC yet for a couple more months :( ) Concerning solar systems and resources, and modding: 1) Will there be bigger solar systems possible, i.e. more than 5 planets? Can modders fiddle with this number (in xml)? <br
Hello Developers, Not having the 64-bit hardware yet I am viewing the youtube dev posts with great interest, but something has been picking at me: the Planet Surface screen does not show you what planet you are looking at without recognizing the surface map. This will be a problem for players managing their worlds in numbers too great to memorize. Instead of the top of the screen showing only the title "Planet Surface", can it be changed to say "Planet Surface of X" where X is E
Hah! "Terran Starport 1" two hexes from Earth... Cool!
This is going to date me, but anyways... Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s I purchased the theme music from Star Wars films - on vinyl (!) - later the CD collections -- and I immersed myself in every delicate phrase and sweeping crescendo, the minor interludes expressing emotion, or building tension, and the major chords of thundering marches and dramatic adventure. I memorized many themes and can hum some of them today even in order with some film sequences. As backgro
It just dawned on me: is this a tentative graphic view of the new ship designer environment? Edit: like where one could zoom into a "starport view" and build your ship design?
Wow... Very nice. Great graphics too. I agree with the mobility and modification suggestions. This could be a cool new game feature!
Alas, I have neither the $ available nor the hardware to partake as a Founder right now [e digicons]:([/e] . Maybe later on during the summer... I can endure the delay... But I really wish there was more civilization info and related "fluff" for us non-Founders to keep us interested during the wait. I mostly lurk to see what's new. The DATABANKS have been rather stagnant lately -- how about some more background and teasers? Thalans? Iconians
I have an idea what Bradley's thinking: "Hmmm... roast Drengin on a spit -- a treat for the family dog. That's right, Lord Kona, I won't soil my dinner table by eating you; I'll be feeding you to Fido." [e digicons]>:([/e] [e digicons]:D[/e]
Well, great starting backgrounds for the campaign -- delicious even... (politically speaking!) [e digicons]:D[/e] One question though: I almost always play and modify sandbox games, so how will these backgrounds jive with the sandbox game set-up? Will there be a difference in AI behaviour or dialogue or diplomacy in sandbox that conflicts with these back stories? In sandbox I can"t imagine Altarians can obliterate Drengin fleets at the start, so I am wonder
@EvilMaxWar: thanks for the detailed advice! I'll have a look around while keeping those specs in mind -- I'm in Ottawa btw. @sulley1: thanks for the interesting links, especially the PCPartPicker! [e digicons][/e] Edit: +1 karma for you guys [e digicons][/e]
Would it be possible to build a good box with about $500? I noticed OS (Win 7 Pro) and a decent LED monitor would together add another $400-600. I have friend who is a GalCiv freak and he is in the same boat: needs a new system -- he saw online Alienware units from $799 to $2499. Catchy brand theme, but I'm not sure about them; I prefer to build mine and help my friend with his too -- we have several PC shops in town where you can get parts. I'm competent enoug
Yaaay I guess I win the award for most dated machine! Compared to what I've seen on this thread, mine's a fossil [e digicons]:D[/e] P4 CPU 2.03 GHz, 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS, Win XP SP3. CIV4/Colonization and GalCiv2 run very well. In truth, while my desktop system has given me 7+ years of great service, I am long, long, long over due for a new one, and I am in fact currently prowling the market for something powerful enough to give me 3 to 4 years
Oooo what an elegant graphic solution to the 3 sliders! Very nice! [e digicons][/e] Some terminology that comes to my mind: Economy Orb, Economy Disc (or Discus), Production Disc, Production Planner, Economy Planning Disc -- one could go on forever with suggestions I suppose. I'd avoid using Wheel because it doesn't seem like anything is being rotated, it's just a red pointer moved over the surface of a circle. I
Greetings GalCivians! I am Canadian and I've been an avid gamer since my early 20's, I'm 51 now -- hence the user name if you know your Traveller lore, [e digicons]:D[/e] -- and I have enjoyed all sorts of games from RPGs, to board games to PC games. I am quite keen on 4X turn based games (not a fan of RT or FPS games) -- I guess I suffer from a little god complex when gaming, [e digicons][/e] -- I own 4X board games like Third Impe
This is what I am doing too. I learned a few things... (I have Twilight of the Armor 2.02 that came in the Ultimate Edition) 1) As a starting point, review the Techtree.xml file found in C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight\Data\English. You can open it up in IE to see the code in red text and the data you can modify in black (between the >< characters). There are 362 techs in this file! (A lot of stuff to figure
I use MS Paint to play with the .png files, and to convert .jpg to .png with the right size attributes, though I'm sure there are better applications to do the job.
Tharios, I found an error, it is just a typo. A missing > An easy thing to miss when one is focused on many other details, lol. So: The first step in becoming a Type 1 civilization, increasing overall government efficiency. Should be: The first step in becoming a Type 1 civilization, increasing overall government efficiency. > I have
Hi, I've been following your work here Tol, and it looks very good. I have been working steadily on many things too, and I can really appreciate the time it takes to get things "right" -- that's on top of creating the new ideas and solutions in the first place! I am inspired... :) Oh yeah, testing in cheat mode is your friend!!
I found a few mp3 files with music of about 1:30 min long for the diplomacy window -- basically new race music -- and now with some new custom races I have some new background tunes while "talking to aliens". :D
[quote who="Tharios" reply="10" id="2895229"]Last thing, I swear. I took a stab at creating a new tech, and as far as the game is concerned, it doesn't exist. Here's what I did ... ...snipped... Now, this isn't representative of what I'm trying to accomplish, it's just an attempt to create a new tech. So all I'm looking for is whatever I may have forgotten or done wrong that would make the game ignore it entirely.
