Yeah, why is that? I've noticed it, but I thought 1bc = 1 tp = 1 mp. Why does shunting around the proportion of the spend result in a different total amount?
1 bc = 1 tp = 1mp is correct. There is an impact from the "bonus production / research" (though I have no idea how that is calculated) but the major difference is coming from planets where you don't have activity in all 3 ar
... I read somewhere that tax above 35% is risky so I am afraid of raising it. Early on you will need an approval building on your capital only to keep it in line. (I have not tried whether the capital would actually revolt or not.) Decrease the spending only if you are in trouble (your cash reserve is enough only for ten turns) and then focus on getting out of it to increase the slider back to 100%...
Having your taxes higher

Is there actually an M2 ship in the ship designer? If not, you either have to research better weapons, defenses or more miniaturization and the AI will design an M2 ship automatically. Or you can go into ship designer and change the ship design yourself ("upgrade"). All planets building that ship will switch to building the upgraded version.

I've once heard of someone finishing that campaign by rushing the Dread Lords' planet with cheap fighters (I imagine this was to lure away their ships so the planet becomes undefended) and many, many transports. However that was only on Tough difficulty. The thing is very few people have played the campaigns, even less after ToA came out since it made some of those campaigns nearly impossibly hard.

Sounds like you have evil alignment. One way to solve this is to have a (far) higher military rating than the AIs, that will keep them from trying to extort you. There may still be occasions when they declare war on you but this will happen less frequently. The Thalans seem to be doing best in small to medium galaxies (thanks to their initial high output buildings) whereas it's the Torians in large / huge / gigantic / immense galaxies thanks to their population growth. The wiki seems to suggest there's a chance of the Jagged Knife appearing whenever planets "revolt". I guess this means whenever planets are culturally flipped? I wouldn't know, other than that they seem to appear more often when I'm in the lead planet-wise. I'd love for the Jagged Knife to show up when the Torian AI is stomping the galaxy but no such luck so far :p

The event I've been having most often recently is the Jagged Knife, pretty much get that one in each Korath game I'm playing. While it's a nuissance setting me back and requiring me to rebuild population and quite a bit of my planets once I've reclaimed them, I tend to go after all Jagged Knife planets before the AIs do, so in the end I come out stronger. Still, I wouldn't mind to get some other mega event once in a while, it's been ages since I had any of those.

Defending: at least 1 medium hull with decent weapons on each planet. Though this is not absolutely necessary, I prefer this to having to constantly look out for sneaky attacks on any of my planets; besides I usually produce many of those ships in the mid-game to keep my military rating up, until I get access to better weapons. For my border planets: multiple of those or stronger ships. Also at least 1 ship with a few points of attack and plenty of speed (at least 5 pc) which I'll us

You could always ferry the excess population to your less populated planets before demolishing some stalks, using transports. If you don't have decent morale buildings and technologies yourself, it's often a good deal trading to get some off the other races. Buildings such as a political capital on your homeworld help a lot to get its approval to decent levels (though still lower than your other planets)

Some general principles I follow for almost any race. There's definitely more aggressive playing styles possible but this tends to work for me (difficulty ranging from painful to crippling, depending on race and galaxy size): 1) Research cheap technologies (let's say maximum 5-10 weeks at 100% production and 33% research) that increase social production to develop your first few planets sooner, e.g. xeno engineering, planetary improvements 2) Research cheap techno

I've also noticed the Korx being strong quite often in huge galaxies, most of the times at some point they'll outpace everyone else in military might. I can't remember the Drath ever being a strong force in the last dozen-or-so games I've played. To me it seems the Drath are simply not good enough in any important area to make a difference. They've got slow population growth and no inherent economical bonus, two factors that combined cripple them from the start. Th

Esteemed assembly, After a rather lengthy absence I'm delighted to see we've moved up in the rankings and that this rise is also perceived as such by outside analysts. Personally I'm not that concerned with the struggle between Gnolams and Yor as neither are significant forces. However we might want to interfere if either side is on the brink of capturing the other's homeworld. I wouldn't want to see our Northern neighbours the Yor get control over 2 homewo

In ToA it's much more of a hit-or-miss; while in DA or DL just about any race could emerge victorious once in a while, in ToA some races are nearly always sitting ducks while others always tend to take the first spot. I would agree with qrtxian though that the non-broken races in ToA put up much more of a fight than the ones from DA or DL ever did.

Great if you want peace but won't give up half your planets and most of your techs for it; you get it for free. I think this can only happen when you are attacked and your ally decides to help - then the enemy later signs a peace treaty with your ally.
Are you sure this is possib

Tourism depends on your influence so either grow your population or research technologies that increase your influence. Personally, unless there's this event that quintuples tourism income, I've rarely found tourism income to be significant enough. Regarding your question on a race's stance towards you: you should be able to see the positive and negative elements in your relation when looking at the race's details. Examples of positive elements are: trade, economi

A rather late reply as I've been on holidays in the past weeks... Anything that increases the number of planets in your galaxy will also increase your chances of seeing higher quality planets (with the exception of homeworlds and their secondary, those planet qualities are not randomized but depend on the race you've chosen) E.g. larger galaxies, higher planet density, more habitable planets

I might be wrong but I thought this was only possible in the default ship designs and as soon as you start tampering with them (or designing your own from scratch) you don't get that possibility. In any case I've seen this discussion pass by a couple of years ago, though knowing the search function on the forum that may not be of much help

Nice read indeed, looks like you're doing a great job in the game, adapting to changing conditions and coming out victorious. Especially such vast galaxies are quite a challenge the first few times, well done! I must say for me personally it's a nice addition to all the story-heavy AAR's that are ongoing, definitely enjoyed it. Good luck and have fun with your next game - would be interested in reading your future endeavours as well...

Afaik there is no way to keep the ship list open. But why would you need to have that open all the time? Regarding approval, as Kryo said it affects your population growth (essential for your tax income). In addition, once you move on to a more advanced government type, you should have sufficient approval to win the elections so you benefit from the bonus associated with your party. You mentioned the choice between farms or production / research facilities. You have to st

That being said, the best place for your econ starbases with trade modules would be your home planet as all your trade routes will pass through that sector (regardless of whether you change your trade routes later on in the game) and the risk of them being destroyed by other races or pirates are much smaller. I would imagine they force you to upgrade starbases using constructors to ensure that it also takes quite some time rather than just money to build fully upgraded starbases.
