Well some of it could be possible, the basic needs for that system may already be in place for the campaign of sins. Anyway like I said just the basic concept alone would be fun enough, but if possible more can be better. Not required though.

I'll have to think about accepting your apology then
I said nothing about paypal did I?
I tried... got some issues as seen in the other thread. Hopefully can do it properly soon
Internet slang/lingo. It means nothing and is there for effect (don't ask me what effect). Like "lolz".
People tend to have a personal playing style, why not make it easier for them to keep it? Besides, you won't just go wage war with one specific fleet you came up with, you will build many and combine them in different ways in actual combat. Wouldn't be that hard to edit them mid-game if the opponent happens to discover a strategy that exposes some weakness in your fleet set up rather than your combat strategy.
Calling that concept fog of war is just another way to put it down just because you don't like it... You certainly did not expect it to be this way, so it's at least unexpected, unlike your wishes, since you always assumed that's how it would be. Note I never said it's better, you are the one who keeps trying to point out what you personall prefer is better for this or that reason. It's just a different gameplay mechanic that enables different possibilities. Note it was also a simple ex
...I'm sure it will look great enough on DirectX9 based systems. Also, I thought DirectX10 was already out? Doesn't it come with Windows Vista by default? If not, that's silly...
I'm sure it will look great enough on DirectX9 based hardware.
Try running games windowed? Playing area won't be that small on 1280x1024 on your screen while you'll get rid of distortion... Then again I'm used to playing games windowed as I usually start them up while in the middle of something else and pause and go back and forth all the time...
That can be an added choice but like I said when your empire grows, it will be very helpful to be able and save your fleet set ups and have different facilities in the various corners of the solar system/galaxy/whatever work on different fleets each without having to pick which ships you want every single time. You want extra defence @ planet x? Just set it producing your saved fleet "defender squadron" while other planets are working on "assault squadron" "bomber fleet" and "scout wing" as you
Yes I'm sure SoaSE was a very easy game to develop and they skipped all the potential hard parts to make a better UI while the game's design sticked to the safe and expected, because apparently the UI's designers would take all the work load of experimenting with a certain different gameplay feature therefor they wouldn't have so much time to spend on the UI ...Seriously now, it's all about w
Well, hard is not impossible, therefor I saw it as a possibility, therefor .... see my last reply.
Look. All I initially said was that IF the planets have to be discovered, then you shouldn't be able to pick exactly how many planets per galaxy you want as was your suggestion. After that I was merely stating that planet discovery elements, regardless of what you think, are a viable possibility which is what made me write the statement as seen above. Obviously if they had done it like this, then they would have found a way to make it an interesting part of the game and the whole game w
It's been talking about before, you don't have to hold your fleets by the hand, you can apparently play the whole game with a zoomed out view just doing the "important" things and letting the AI take care of the rest. For example you could play each battle giving direct orders to each ship/fleet (however it works) or you could just plan what units you want to place against that foe and let them do the actual battle on their own. The AI will supposdelly let them properly pick priority targets and
How do I change my nickname here so that people call me Alex... My usual nickname was taken so I used my site's name (www.mod-hq.com)... a bit dumb in retrospect but meh... Glad you like my ideas.
That's subjective (hey, one person liked the concept already), all you asked from me was to give a suggestion about how it could be possible to start without knowing the location/number of planets in a given system, and I gave a valid example. As for how you would start scanning, well, even if I answer that you'll once again ask for more things ending up in me having to come up with a whole game's concept... Sorry I don't have time for that unless you want to fund a project?
It was just an example answering ninja's question, I didn't say that's how it should be or that's how I want it to be or even that it's the most realistic game design... Maybe it could be incorporated in my Battlestar Galactica modification idea I wrote in another thread since it would make more sense story wise as well.
It better not... I won't be able to play it if so
Actually that's not what happens in a typical RTS, you still make a "fleet", you don't send out 1 unit on its own, you wait until you have enough to form an actual strategy, divide them in groups on your own, etc. Fleet building would not be cheaper if you ended up creating the same numbers as if you had built it ship by ship... Hell, you still build it ship by ship, you just have a preset plan about how many to make. Price would be the same, and it's irrelevant in a game anyway. <b
The 14th, to show their love, and let us show ours
I think you say that it "can't work" because you have a certain view in your mind of how the game plays. Seeing as we don't have that much actual info about that, I said those things in my responses covering the case I mentioned. If I had to make a suggestion for a game I barely know anything about yet, then I would say that, since you mentioned technology, space awareness of the players could be limited by technology levels. Players could see the overal structure of the galaxy when zoo
I don't think either choice is "obviously better", only leads to very different game pacing and style. Obviously space is massive so you could get lost but I'm sure if they wanted they could come up with ways to keep you in the right direction without simply giving everything away from the start... Anyway... Anybody got the magazines that previewed the game? Please share some info...
So, when you start a sins game you can instantly zoom the camera around and know the position of everything that could be of interest to you, including planets and enemies? I really don't know, the only refference I have to games like this is Gal Civ II and I believe in that one you had to first find the planets... Maybe I remember wrong, I only played it @ a friend's place. What do you mean a nodule system, how does that make it impossible to have the element of discovery?
