Black-Knight suggested a vampyre traits and I feel that this would work well with the race specific Wraith Traits of this thread. Vampyre 1 (Wraiths). (Prerequisite: Life Drain). Wraiths with this trait move faster in battle (Move +2) and receive a +1 bonus to strength and a +1 bonus to constitution. However, they suffer from a -3 penalty to charisma as their skin takes on a deathly palor. Vamprye 2 (Wraiths). (Prerequisite: Vampyre 1). Wraiths with th

Race specific techs & race specific traits would help to differentiate the races. - Example: The Wraith might have early access to a tech whereas the other fractions would access this tech later in their tech tree.

I would consider several traits intead of one and limiting it to those of the wraith race. Vampyre-1: Transmute into wolf that moves 2x normal, but can't wear armor. Strength +1, Constitution +1, Charisma -2 Vampyre-2: (Prerequisite: Vampyre-1) Transmute into demon bat that can fly and attack. Strength +1, Constitution +1, Charisma -2 Vampyre-3: (Prerequisite: Vampyre-2) Evil Eye slows response of opponents with lower Charisma, Strength +1

Good and Evil Paths - without the Double Work Good and Evil adventure paths can use much of the same encounters if smartly written. Example 1: Same Quest but different motivation and consequences Neutral - A merchant hires the Party to retrieve a valuable trident stolen by thieves. The trident is in the lair of a wizard Good - A Baron hires the PCs to retrieve a valuable tride

Climb Skill - a simple approach for software RPG The climb skill is also missing from most (if not all) RPG software games. Scale the wall of a keep at night, climb the side of a mountain, descend a bluff to avoid the bandits guarding the road ahead or climb a statue to reach the jewel at its top. Implementation in a Balder's Gate like game with its overhead perspective would be

Dynamic Big Bosses In many RPG's the Big Boss creature is static. He has the same stats and weapons from one game to another. What if these stats changed based on player actions? If the PC's fail to stop the minions of the big boss the Big boss grows in power. Example: PCs fail to recover a stolen sword by a specific date = Big Boss NPC gains a level and a new weapon</li

Swim Skills No RPG software game I know of uses the swim skill, though it could add a lot of tactical options to game play. Swim - Player characters can traverse deep water terrain by swimming. They could escape pursuers, bypass a bridge guarded by trolls, cross a moat to lower the drawbridge or explore an island in the middle of a lake. Implementation is relatively simple. <

1. ToEE combat style could be used as the Pathfinder system is open source, though one should talk to the owners of this open source system to confirm that it applies to software based game. That said, SD could design their own tactical combat system. What I really want is for it to be a me-go-you-go system that alternates based on initiative + random factor. Why? I like planning my moves, aka Chess for I find it to be more fun. 2. I wrote a NWN campaign where the protagonists in

I would buy a new improved Baldar's gate-life RPG. The features I would added to it are; World Changing Events - i.e. PC actions and decisions have a real impact on the game. Complete the quest and a Castle with new NPCs arises on the map. Fail the quest and the town is burnt to a crisp, most of its NPCs inhabitants dead or sold into slavery. The ice crystal is the source of a magical curse that covers the

I agree, thats why I said "if a kingdom razes the city of another kingdom". Note that I did not say empire. My feeling was that the human kingdoms would unite against a fellow human king committing genocide, while the Empire fractions would not care if one of their own was decimating Empire cities. One of the problems I have with Elemental, is that all of the fractions seem the same. Nothing differentiates one fraction or race from another.

I would like to see race specific traits, traits that would distinguish one race from another. Example: Life Drain (Wraiths) - Wraiths with this trait drain the life force of any champion they kill. This energy heals them. (rare, as few wraiths have this ability) Mana Drain (Wraiths) - Magic users hit by a waith with this trait lose 1d4 mana, as the wraiths touch consumes some of the mana in their mana pool.</p

Question: Can you have a trait that is limited to a specific race? Example: Night Attack Trait An Army commanded by a hero (usually a wraith) with this trait has an option to attack; via a text pop-up box, an enemy army at night. During a night attack the line of sight and attack range for all units is 3 tiles. For wraiths this is a common trait. For other races this is a rare trait, as they prefer to engage

1. Not only would it work against the AI, it could also work against human players who might be lured into attacking an army they think is weaker than it actually is or be surprised by a night attack on their army encampment. Note: A night attack reduces the line of sight and attack range of all units to 3 tiles and dramatically changes the flow of the battle. 2. Agreed, it would not be called Sun Tzu in the game, but as Lord Xia says the idea is

1. Sun Tzu Ambush Trait - an army commanded by a hero with the Sun Tzu Ambush trait can appear to be 50% weaker if it does not move that turn. Example: A large 200 point army appears to be a 100 point army as bait to attract an enemy attack. 2. Sun Tzu Bluff Trait - an army commanded by a hero with the Sun Tzu Bluff trait can appear to be 300% stronger if it does not move that turn. <ul

Agreed, reputation properly implemented really impact gameplay and heighten your involvement in the game. A PC that might have a good reputation amoung humans but be regarded as the enemy of elves. A PC might complete quests that raise his reputation in the eyes of one lord, but lower it the eyes of another lord. A PC might be well-regarded among thieves but be unknown among the other residents of a city Or a PC's actions in saving the res

If Stardock builds an RPG; and from posts by FrogBoy its likely that this is being considered, I would like to see it feature; a. Baldar's Gate like story b. Turn based tactical combat "For those who haven't played it, in TOEE during the combat phase movement control was a simple Me Go, You Go system with control passing back and forth based between the characters and monsters based on initiative. "I contend that a game like say Baldur’s Gate (with updated graphics but no where near Dragon Age) would likely sell very well at a fraction of the cost of Dragon Age.............The challenge, of course, is for developers to carefully budget their title based on their best guess on the market size." I agree, you can make money in the middle market if you can manage your costs. Stardock; for example, could reduce the cost of developing an BG/TOEE style RPG by taking advanta

Good point, fortification improvements at this time don't affect the appearance of the tactical battlefield; though they do affect the stats of the defending force. I would like to see; a. Building a fortress add walls and towers that the defender can man to rain arrows down upon the enemy. These walls can only be taken down by seige engines or magic.

A long time back I wrote two quest based paths to TOEE. 1. The first was: Once the players became aware of the spiders infesting the Delko woods the clock started ticking. Until the quest was completed the spiders in the woods continually increased in number. Once a set number was reached the spiders attacked the village of Hamlet - imagine a horde of giant spiders attacking a village. If the players completed the quest before a set date the village would not be attacked, if the

Gamespot has an article about how Guild Wars 2 will utilize quests that have a real effect on the game; "GW2 will be populated by numerous dynamic quests--quests that are ongoing for the player to discover. The example given was of a pack of savage centaurs terrorizing the countryside. Players will battle these beasts for control of a settlement. Anyone can jump in once the fighting starts, and the event will scale according to how many "active players" are present. If the pla

That said my top four list for improving tactical combat would be; 1. Special Abilities 2. Unit Commands based on Training - i.e. trained veterans could form a spear wall (protects against a charge) or a shield wall (protects against arrows), untrained peasants could not. Trained veterans would have a chance to make the first blow when attacked, untrained peasants would not. 3. Heros affects the tactics available to units they command. A trained warrior hero
