Eh. Not a particularly fascinating article after all that wait and seeking them out across game news sites since Brad went on the Media trip.. But ah well. I have the warm snuggly comfort of knowledge. The knowledge that Beta 2 will soon be upon us! \o/

Might be a tiny little bit more than you're willing to spend, but perhaps look into a GTX 260 216SP. I got one as a warranty replacement to the no longer stocked 8800 GTX and could not be happier with it. It can run Oblivion, FEAR2, Supcom and more or less anything else I throw at it in 1920x1080 max details no issue. Crysis still made it chug a bit, dropped res and details on that one, but that's still fairly normal. :P Looking around, I see there are a lot of lower models no
Except "Tactical Combat". As last I understood. We won't get for another Beta or 2 down the road. Still, we'll have access to a lot more stuff.
Yup. Although Tactical Combat has already had feedback sought on it, so it counts. :P But yeah, according to the updated schedule Tactical Battles will be enabled in Beta 3, so not such a long wait! :) Edit: Boo
I am...painfully close to pre-ordering this. For the first time, ever, I am about to pre-order a game. Will Beta 2 be MP only, or will I be able to play around in single player? This post, and the followup comments from Brad have been excellent. The absolute highlight among highlights for me though?
No micro expansions this time. Only full blown expansions. We plan to release so much "stuff" along with the community that "micro expansions" would get lost in the flood. Only around 5% or so of the assets available will actually be seen in the game. The rest will make their way in via the community. So the game will keep
Have been looking out all week for the articles to start coming up as a result of the media tour you did, Brad! Glad to hear we should start seeing 'em soon! -- As to the content of yer post, one thing strikes me as bein' a lil odd. Not that I'm at ALL complaining mind, because this comes out in my favour. ;) But I was just trying to reconcile your decision not to cross-platform-ise and your so called 'cold blooded, greedy capitilist' nature. I think that in truth, you just &l
The Elemental engine is an RTS engine. But when we played through tactical battles it just came back over and over again to discussions on the forums where users were understandably expecting combat to be more along the lines of Master of Magic, Xcom, HOMM, etc. And it just plays better.
I assume though, that even though the RTS functionality won't be employed for the official base release
I personally hope for a more Age of Wonders 1 bent to things (i.e., wandering Sov) than AoW2 (stay at home). But I enjoyed both games, and admittedly I think AoW2 was more balanced than AoW1 was. (Not that it didn't have it's own balance issues, but eh).
Assuming the currency is 'Gildar' for the Empire as well, perhaps something around this. Gildaran, Gildaram, Gildar Master, Gildar Overlord, etc etc. Of course, if the currency has an entirely different name for the Empire side, replace these with the appropriate currency name. ;)
How would it measure games that were technically still in progressed? Or were unfinished because OTHER people quit? Having a metric of how many games played to completion is rather pointless if it isn't able to handle all the situations that arise at no fault of the player in question. Perhaps a more useful metric might be: Average time played per game. Of course, this could get rather skewed as well, if say, one person plays only Arena or tiny maps on fast speeds, vs someone who pred
This probably would have been better in the Suggestions forum, but nonetheless, I like the idea, so things I'd like to see: A straight W/L ratio, perhaps mousing over this would display W/L for Solo/FFA play, and W/L while as part of an alliance or pre-match beginning team. Then out of their Wins, would like to see a break down by victory type. Wins by conquest, Wins by Diplomacy, etc. I'd also insist that each player have an option to hide some or all o
In regards to currently non-priority MP modes, I'd rank them in my personal order of preference as: 1) Non simultaneous play option; that is, have the game hosted by a server and allow players to login, take their turn, then wait for everyone else to come in and take their turn as well. Perhaps have a host setup option of a turn limit as well, if a turn isn't taken within 24 hrs, those players turn button is hit automatically for them. Combat would almost
Even 'player hosted' games will be hosted by the Stardock dedicated servers. No. The community will be able to set up their own servers and mod them as well. Players will not have to use our servers exclusively.
Ahhh. That makes a lot more sense actually, I was wondering how that was going to work, but must've misinterpreted what was actually said in the interviews that mention it. So to clarify then, even '
My question about this - it says beta 2 is the dedicated Stardock servers. At what point will we be able to test LAN and player hosted servers?
Even 'player hosted' games will be hosted by the Stardock dedicated servers. You'll still be able to run mods and everything and have them as custom as you please, but they'll be hosted by Stardock anyhow. As for LAN games... Good question. Is there even going to be LAN
Does this mean that Beta 2 isn't actually a build, but simply a testing of the servers? (theoretically with 1z4 build)
Sort of my question too. Although I assume 1z4 will still roll out before Beta 2, although it might also be the case that - if 1z4 works out to expectations - that Beta 2 will also more or less be the 1z4 build, but with MP flagged on / SP flagged off. MP is going to be the main way I personally play
*whimper* Take my money! Let me in! Take it, Taaaake iiiit! Pwease? :)
PS: Now that I think we have a firmer understanding of what, precisely, you are proposing, perhaps we could have it in poll form? (Also now that from the prior one, most people understand how to find such polls now. ;) )
With it all clearly laid out in stone like that, my opinion has actually shifted somewhat from where it was. Given that chosing the option for more customisation isn't going to mean tearing at the soul of the game, hacking away lore and factions and everything else... I'd much rather see us keep the Factions and Races seperation distinct, and give us more options for customisation at the racial level.
Quoting Raven X, reply 17Hmm, should have seen where this post would head when you made it, Frogboy. You scared everyone. Now they think if you add more Race Customization all the storyline and everything you have NOW is just going to disappear.. I'm seeing that as well. People tend to quickly go into black or white. There's no scenario where we're going to drop our factions and our lore. The question is what level
I hope you guys are enjoying these journals and their peak at the kinds of things that go on during game development. Marketing hates these journals because they expose the world to the “sausage factory” that is commercial game development.
Forgot to respond to this part as well as I had intended to.. Vehemently, YES. I <3 the Journal's so much, keeps me checking the site very frequently for new ones. :) Have always part
y bias is to focus on our own canon and introduce players to it. Players could still create their own races but they’re not going to be making any half-dragon half man races or Ents or what have you. That’s my bias on it because that sort of thing can be added later in post-release if the game’s successful whereas we only get one opportunity to really explore the depths of the rift between say Kraxis and Capitar or the doom of Pariden and Procipinee.[/quot
I'd love to be able to customise races as well as sovereign, that would be some pretty tasty icing on an already delicious cake. But I do share the concerns about the resulting lack of depth for the AI factions, particularly where the SP campaign was then involved. Not that I personally will likely end up finishing the SP campaign (unless it is amazing) as I'll be likely using it as a tutorial and spring board for the online play, but hey. So I guess ult

Aye. :) After TCore's answer, I went ahead and pre-ordered now. In some respects I wish they'd take the money immediately (just makes it a bit easier to manage on my end) but I'm also rather respectful of the fact they don't. So now tis just a matter of awaitin' the fateful day I recieve the eye-bleeding imminent warning via email. I think I've pretty much already consumed all the information available about Elemental to date. :( Funny thing is, I heard about E
