I play custom race, suicidal, gigantic maps, normal research rate, and 9 opponents. Been doing a tech victory around mid 2229 in game ( 4.5 years ), I usually have taken out 2 or 3 of the other civs and victory is pretty much assured so I just finish it up with a tech victory. I do the missiles for weapons and have only seen the blackhole eruptor once and never got to using it ( out of 3 games ). My current game just started 2228 and i am at the point i usually just do the tech victory but think

i agree with random in reply #9 -- i put in basic factories, labs, + markets before going down the tech tree in those areas. I usually tech trade up as soon as i have the structures in which usually means tech trading for factory upgrades as soon as i get my factories in then tech trading for lab upgrades after i get them in and the tech trading for market upgrades when i got a lot of markets -- hard to fill up all the squares on all the planets as some planets run out of tiles -- so sort of hav

Ah, that's what those blue squares are -- have to look at em. But i do want to be able to change ship production at the same time i launch a newly produced ship.

Heh, i was just thinking while playing and thought that if we had a screen like the civilization manager but for our ships it would be easy to do most of the stuff i want -- justb need someway to cut down on all the clicks. Another thing i spend a lot of time doing is adjusting specialized production on the civilization manager screen. Would be nice if they could automate it a bit. Specifically say i have social production at 100% ; have a key i hit for research and one for military p

I'm a micro manager who hasn't used rally points yet cause i don't want to slow down my attack. I think i have to do a lot of extra clicks to accomplish what i want. Especially at the beginning of the turn with the production report. It would be nice if when I click on a ship that has been produced it immediately "goes to" rather than making me do 2 clicks to do this. Also, have a launch option so it immediatly does a "go to" and a "launch" . Saves 2 clicks. Also

I have only played gigantic maps and agree it would probably be harder if there are less sectors and worlds per player. Still was expecting a lot more from the AI with all the hub bub about the game. I do realize that the game is awfully complex for the developers to have anticipated all the strategies that might be developed but still think the AI can do a lot better. Would probably be neat if we could mod our own AIs for the game.

Personally i agree with Rendorax -- i was expecting to see much tougher AI than what i've seen. Unprotected troop transports, unprotected starbases, unprotected freighters and they declare war on you. Just put 1 weapon on a cargo hull, max out engines -- and tool around taking out their stuff. And the AI never does that, so no need to protect anything inside of your borders. Haven't seen the AI doing extra mining of the resource starbases either -- they just take the 5% bonus rather t

Did a revaluation of my strategy last night and found where i can definitely improve -- so winning a Suicidal, gigantic map, 9 opponents, normal reasearch rate game inside of 3 game years with a conquest vicroy is not a problem in my opinion. However getting population up would be hard unless you spent race ability points on population growth. Personally i maxed out military production, 20% bonus to economy , and maxed out sensor range. And had technologists as my political party. I u

Got a kick out of your tax like a democrat on steroids comment. One of the things i've consistently been able to do is have an 80% tax rate with 100% morale -- but kick the tax rate up to 81% and the morale drops down to 7%,lol. Those morale resources must really have some great pacifying drugs on em! The auto-save is nice but that extra round of ship moves really bugs me.In my younger years i would have returned the game and asked for my money back on principle alone. <br

Didn't really look at all your charts and graphs but i have done my own research into weapon tech costs and the payback on different types. And i go with missiles myself and haven't had a problem. You can look at cost all you want but the big stat is how much damage you can put on a ship so damage per space is what really matters. And from what i see, defense on the ships is a waste of space and I wouldn't want to lose time researching defenses. If i got em for free from espionage or

I just finished a suicidal, gigantic map, 9 opponent game in just under 3 years game time ( around 12-1-2228 ). Pretty sure i use just regular research time. I was going for a conquest victory but got boring so I just got the tech victory after i had about half the map and had taken out 4 of comp civs. Only got like 29,000 points for the game -- but i don't play for score and have no idea how it works. From what i saw and the way things were going I would have had a conquest victory early in 222

I've started encountering this a lot. If I have a fleet or ship next to a ship that is getting upgraded, sometimes I can not move it. The ship/fleet is targetable and shows that it has moves but just won't move. I was just moving a fleet of troop ships and when it moved next to a ship that I had just put into upgrade the troop fleet got stuck and I can not move em anymore. Not too big an issue for me as I usually only do upgrades that take a week, but definitely a bug. Well, the

Finally; but i wouldn't give em too many kudo's. They're probably reacting to players taking advantage of the feature. I can see where it would be really advantageous, especially for a strategy like I like to play. Notice i call it a feature not a bug -- and i wouldn't consider it cheating to use it to one's advantage. ( they've done 2 updates without changing it after all ).

Don't know if your guys are doing this but if 1 were to take advantage of the save/load feature of an extra round of ship moves when it was to their advantage, they could probably dominate even suicidal level. Sort of hard to believe that there aren't any players out there taking advantage of the feature. I do alright without taking advantage of it myself on suicidal gigantic maps but i'm not into scores just finding a strategy/strategies that'll win. And until they firm up the foundation of the

I play suicidal gigantic maps and think it is definitely possible. Definitely possible to get tech win that fast, would be very tough to get a conquest victory that fast but maybe with the right map settings. I can get a tech win inside of 3 years and my strategy is no where near to being fully refined. Also if he is taking advantage of the save/load feature would be quite easy. This is probably your big big red flag. But maybre not -- suicidal is not as hard as you might imagine

Personally i play at suicidal, gigantic map, 9 opponents. The colony rush by the comp AI is very aggressive but I don't think they are cheating. My own strategy works well enough that i usually get my fair share of about 18-22 worlds by the time everything is colonized. I am pretty hard on the developers on a lot of issues, however I have never found any indication that they have an AI that cheats at all. Definitely one of the strongest points for this game in my opinion. T

Thought this would be a good place to post this opinion. I think the game is probably way to easy for me to win with my best strategy at the suicidal level on a gigantic map ( only map i've played ). I'm currently playing a game where I hit control n about 10 times till I got a homeworld without any tile bonus's. Gonna win without much trouble at all. And I'm not taking advantage of the save/load game feature at all ( the extra round of ship moves you get with a save/load ). If I did a save/load

In response to post #3 by BradenK; I did the Galactic Guide Book in my current game just to see this bug. I'm playing update 1.2. The survey modules where free for me -- however in the survey module description, the price was still listed. Just watch the cost of the ship as you add survey modules. The manual that comes with the game says you should get to explore anomalies with any ship. To me that means that you shouldn't need a survey module. At any

I've played around developing strategies and from what i've seen a good expansion strategy will grab you enough of an advantage to win games at any difficulty up to Painful at least. However, if you try suicidal level, you'll probably only be able to get your fair share at best. At least that is the best i've done, but my strategies are not completely expansion oriented. Give Suicidal level a shot and see how your strategy works. Suicidal is not as bad as you might imag

Tile bonus's are fun but not necessary on your homeworld if you have a good strategy. In fact from what i've seen it can really hurt to have too much production on your homeworld but this might not be as much a problem with version 1.2 and the changes to adjusting each worlds production. Haven't ever noticed any problems with having too much research on a planet but having a large population can be a problem so farm bonus's can cause problems. And influence and mora

Well looks like i was wrong about tile bonus's being that important -- playing a game at suicidal level, gigantic map, 9 opponents, and no tile bonus's on my homeworld -- and looks like I should be able to win -- just wiped out one comp opponent and in pretty good shape. Another thing you can adjust for the difficulty of the game is what race bonus's you get at the start. I'm not really into scoring games, but i have played games that gave higher scores for not using all

I do have a sense of humor about this. I'm just an old man set in my ways. And this is just really an annoying issue to me. I'll probably mainly play suicidal games on gigantic maps with 9 opponents that'll take me a week or so to play. So not being able to save/load without affecting the integrity of the game is a real pain. During the last game, I had a power surge ( from power co ) that rebooted my comp. When i loaded my last save, the Dregin ( misspelled prob ), declared war on me when i lo

I've played 3 games all on gigantic maps with 9 opponents. Regenerated maps each time till i got a homeworld with tile bonus's of my liking. 1st game was tough level and was easy, 2nd game was painful level and even easier ( i improved my tacticts ). 3rd game was suicidal level and was a good fun challenging game. From what i see, the tile bonus's on your homeworld have a lot to do with what difficulty level will be a good game. Just so much depends on your homeworld for
