Update 1.1 didn't work for me either -- started crashing a lot and wouldn't load saved games after 3 days or so. But Update 1.2 has worked very well and not having any problems with 1.3 beta 2a -- lots of annoyances have been removed in the beta too.

The galactopedia will let you look at techs necessary for the ships outside of the game -- you might find it useful -- there is a pinned post on the Galactopedia.

The only thing i agrre with the op on is the planetary defenses -- think it could be tweaked to be a little better. On the Galactic Guide Book -- if it worked like its description in Manual that came with the game, it'ld be worth it and maybe worth researching to right off. Description in manual i got says "any" ship can explore anomalies -- but in the game it just makes survey module cost nothing -- still takes up space and has to be put on ships. However, I can see where this might ac

Got a few hints that might help. First of all, it's going to be a while before you have to worry about wars/ invasions. Planets can not be invaded without transports -- that requires Planetary Invasion tech and population to fill up the transports. Even on suicidal difficulty and Common settings for stars and planets -- and gigantic map with 9 opponents or huge map with 6 opponents or large map with 4 opponents -- war will not be declared on you till about 16 months into the game -- ab

I use the arrow keys quite a bit to move my ships around but I'ld go for having the arrow keys for map movement and use the numbers on the numpad for ship movement -- then i could move diagonally with the keyboard.

Ok, post your opening strategy in detail -- i've posted mine before. And I did not say I know rather " it sounds to me " and " may need to " but very willing to be blunt if you'ld prefer. I find the civilization placement on the maps to be very good and challenging and in no need of alteration. I'll leave it up to the Devs as to whether or not they think they can make it better.

As custom race you can take Xeno Engineering, Stellar Cartography, and Sensors as starting Techs -- you can design a survey ship on first turn then, albiet just 1 speed. Buy 3 of em while you are researching to impulse engines and then upgrade em all at once ( buy over time is prob the best option ). And personally don't auto-survey, move em manually and outmanuver the AI to the anomalies and scout out for planets while your at it. One of the things in GC2 that I really enjoy doing.<br

I've never seen this problem and i've played gigantic(9 opponents ), huge( 6 opponenets ), and large( 4 opponents) map games mostly at suicidal difficulty wuth normal for most galaxy settings. However I almost always feel like I'm crammed in some. I design colony ships with 2 impulse engines and 2 basic life support modules which give me the range and speed to colonize outward and i take whatever course the other civs let me go in. I almost always end up with at least my fair share of planets. A

Thanks for confirming what i saw guys. I noticed that .1 increase in range occassionally too but had no idea how to describe it or recreate it, so didn't mention it. Not a big deal to me anymore but hopefully easily fixed and then newbies won't run into it and get frustrated.

Your right about map size altering life support ranges -- never noticed that before and it is not in the Galactopedia. Those ship design ranges were from large map games i believe. I figured 30 mins to start up a game and play it to designing those ships and then starting up another game and playing it to the same point to see what the designs carried over to the next game would be about right if one took it easy and played it a little too. But heh lets make a race and see how

nope -- this is a bug -- identical research -- identical game settings including all map options. Try it and see if it is different for you -- shouldn't take more than 30 mins. And the range values are from the shipyard description not the individual ship descriptions which include tech bonus's.

I design a survey ship with 3 basic life supports, 3 impulse engines, and a survey module -- it's range is 2.8. However the range of the design changes to just 1.6 if carried over from a game to a new game. Same thing happens with a colony ship design that has 2 impulse engines and 2 basic life supports. changing from 2.0 range to 1.2 range. These changes are real; I've made 1 ship of carried over design and 1 with a new design -- their ranges are significantly different as th

There are lots of strategies that work well. The most important thing is that you learn basically how the game works. Personally I use survey ships to grab anomalies, fast colony ships to colonize, buy a starport on each planet when I colonize it. Buy factories or labs on 300% and 700%bonus tiles and a few 100% bonus tiles if I can afford it -- depends on how lucky i am with anomalies yielding BC. Keep social spending at 0% till I'm done colonizing. Set military spending to produce a co

Sounds like your not really building any military ships. You might be designing ships with only cargo hulls that only have 1 HP. You might need to research techs that let you build military ship hulls that have HPs. That's the only thing that would cause you to have a military rating of 0 that i can think of. Also do your defenders have any offence -- or are they just 100% defense?

Ok so low morale might lose you an election and you lose the political party bonus -- big deal. Personally i don't think 1 or 2 planets that fall to 40% morale and stop growing population would cost me an election but even if they did a higher tax rate is probably more important than the political party bonus. And if I don't have the time to put that extra population on transports, I got bigger problems going on. Personally i think the farm techs, farm bonus tiles, and farms are just f

In reply to #4, i agree that the faster one wins is probably the best gage of how good a player is. I've won suicidal/gigantic/normal planets/normal research rate/tech trading on in just over 3 years with a tech victory i believe -- just too boring to finish up with a conquest victory. I've never come close to finishing the tech tree in a game before either -- usually don't even get to the highest missile tech before i win ( I use missiles myself ). I've read as many posts on getting

The game is won and i left 1 opponent with 8 worlds while i play a sim and grow my population up. I decided to try getting points for RPs but also do some military production with focus. My only opponent cann't have anywhere near 95K RPs/turn as he's only got 8 worlds. Gonna get some good economic points now just got the random event economy boost. Got around 400K/turn excess income, now -- that'll buy around 14 Huge hulled ships loaded up with black hole eruptors every turn -- which'll

Just curious if anyone knows? My current game is almost over and i have 379 planets and converted to NLCs and use focus for production. My planets typically have 300-500RPs each with a few up around 4K RPs. So i should be up around 150K RPs /turn, but on the stats page under miscellaneous it says my research production is only 33K- 34K RPs/turn. I do have a 314% research bonus, so if the bonus is not included in that number it would be in the ballpark but still probably a little low. I

Meglobob pretty much sums up how I win at suicidal level. I do always try to have the speed advantage with my ships so i can choose when and where to fight. Also getting as many of the anomalies in the expansion phase is key for me, getting those 2500bc and even the 500bc anomalies really keeps an economy running during the expansion phase and if you get them and they don't that's even better. I think getting 3 survey ships out with base speed of 7 and 3 basic life supports as fast as p
