I am a new player, and I have trouble understanding this thread, especially since you guys do not seem to agree. For the moment, my basic concern is : If a planet is attacked, do all oribiting ships defend it at the same time, during the same battle? The logistics of fleet organization is less urgent for a new player, especially if one does not know how to obtain a "orbital fleet manager". I have not played a long enough game, yet, to see one of those on

A "geforce 500 video card"?! Such a thing does not exist : be more precise, and indicate the card's driver-version number. Your drivers might be too old. I did experience a black screen (with cursor & voice, like you), but it was limited to the intro movie and the short in-game movies.
